renault can’t fix my 172

Right ,that was the third time now the car has been back to the dealers for a flatspot between 2/3k ;before running temperature is reached on a morning.Got a phone call at 3pm today to say Renault know there is a problem but havent got a clue as yet how to fix it. Tried remap and new injectors .Wondered how common this is on 172s. Nice people in the garage actually gave me a scratch on my drivers door as a bonus. Will be talking to the muppets at Ren. UK tommorrow. If anybody has this problem it is listed under the "details of solution 4452" and Renault(FRANCE) have advised aftersales not to replace any parts until a solution is found.

How many French men does it take to milk a cow ? 5 : one to hold the udder ,4 to lift it up and down.

Will keep informed but not expecting anything soon.

isnt that lumpy running due to the map the ecu loads to meet emissions regulations due to the lack of warm-up period in the latest regs?

mine wont idle properly, and runs like poo until it begins to warm up - then its va-va-voom!!!

Said its during the cat heating phase so could be that . Dont really understand these modern gizmos , if you cant fix it with a lump hammer i,m knackered Im only an engineer.

someone on here told me to try this...

from cold try to hold the revs at 2000 at standstill - really tricky as the revs jump all over the place, it vibrates and generally dont sound too well.

keep and eye on the temp needle, as it reaches the first or sometimes second mark - vvvrrrooom - revs leap upwards, smooth as a babies bum.

I really thing Reno should know about this LOL - seeing as they designed it!

Mine used to do that wouldnt idle from cold, took it back to the dealer who re-programed the ECU with the latest updte, idles fine now and is much smoother.

mine does this from cold too. it lasts about one minute, versus ten hours for reno to try and fix it. So im learning to live with it ;)

This is normal. Its caused by the need for the engine to comply with emission regs even while its warming up.

Yep, as Mike said its for emissions. The mk1 doesnt do this as when that car was released the emissions only had to be tested when the car was running and cat nice and warm, since then new emissions are tested from cold hence the limiting of revs and lumpy running.

Ive heard there is an ECU update that will improve this issue.

I think you will find that the Mk1 does do it - at least mine does! Its a nastly little beast when it is stone cold, but as soon as the temp needles moves to the first bar it is up and running !!!!

Mine does it, I got told that its like a safety thing to stop you screwing your engine when its cold, and that once oil temp reaches about 80 deg, ecu then allows vvc to work poroperly, and thus engine goes to full power.

Probably horse sh?t though. lol
