Roof rack marking paint

So I've got a genuine roof rack, but when I took it off after about a month of being on last weekend it had left some marks on the bodywork.

They wouldn't clean off, but luckily polished out with the DA.

It's where the edge of the rubber base of the rack sits on the roof, is there any way to stop this? Anything I can put in between that would work?

On my Audi, I cut small pieces of microfibre cloth about 5mm overall bigger than the footprint of the roofrack and put it inbetween roofrack and car.

(Not for me, to prevent the inevitable fine from the lease company! lol)

That's what I was thinking would be best, and it held ok?

I've used this stuff under mine:

I took the bars off a couple of weeks back and there was no marks on the bodywork. I've just cut a square piece of tape to go under each foot so you can see the edges of it but I'm not too bothered about that TBH.

Looks good, so you stuck it to the rubber bottom of the roof rack then?

The eBay place is local, might pop down for some tomorrow if I can!
