RS Tuning Re-mapped 172!!!

JMR

  RB 182 Cup
Took my Monaco Blue 172 '03 FF to RS Tuning in Leeds last week - pmurray on here.
Had it re-mapped to pull things back in line after having cat-back s/s exhaust and ITG air filter fitted.
Everyone appreciates constructive praise/criticism and unbiased opinions on the forum as it helps others to decide on whether mods are worth it.
I am really pleased with the job Paul's done on my car, it only took about 1/2 hour.
I have a really noticable surge of torque now from low revs, I can pull away from 30mph in 4th gear from about 2000rpm and it just goes!!!!

The pulling power in all gears is much better than before, instead of caning it til the engine comes 'on cam' at 5000rpm, the delivery is there straight away, and the 'on cam' zone doesn't seem as emphasised. Rev limiter upped to 7650rpm;)

The fuel economy is perfectly fine too, no nose-dive there, just as good.
When I change gear [about 5700-6000rpm] the next gear pulls away with just the same ferocity as the higher revs in the lower gear.

It really is well worth the £275 IMHO. I had fallen out of love with my car after the OEM zorst fell off, but now I'm happier than ever.

Car = Faster, Quieter, Smoother.

Thanks Paul and keep up the good work mate, won't hesitate to be in touch when I need a service/repair.

  Car SOLD :-(
Thanks for the write up JMR Monaco172.
Good to know, as Paul is only an hour or so away from me.

Also thinking about a remap if I get an AWT inlet manifold(s) modd.

Paul what sort of gains have you seen??

Depends on the car really mate. On a couple of 182's i have seen 14hp down to as low as 7 but all seem to give good gains in torque and are instantly noticable on the road! Who said remapping a non-turbo is pointless :D

Cheers

What is the bhp and the mpg like on it now? :)

Paul reckons between 6bhp on a standard 172 upto about 14bhp on a 182.
Like he says, the low to mid range torque is really noticeable. Up about 20Nm.

Without RR, can't say increase I've had, but suffice to say I'm really pleased at the moment.

Fuel? Pauls about 70 miles away from me at Newark, and I was playing a bit on the drive home and still managed 41mpg on the A1.:approve:

Paul had one there done by BenR [AWT] i think. He said its a worthwhile mod if you've got a poor casting and can give good gains. About £130 IIRC?

Is there any noticeable difference to the car other than performance that shows its been remapped.

Im more talking about warranty issues etc.

Will the car ever revert back to the original map, if so, how is this done and how can it be avoided.

What happends if you get a flat battery.? Is it still saved in there..?

What is the difference between this and running one of them Group N ECU things..

Some basic questions that someone may wonder about.

1. Er, wait for pmurray to answer this one.
2. Mmmm, prob best not to.
3. Hope not or I'm £275 down the pan!!!
4. Hope so! It's a software re-map so the code should always be there, again pmurray is the man to advise.
5. Paul uploads the code to his laptop, replaces it with his custom map and re-loads to the ECU. The Group N ECU's are a replacement ECU. Old chip out, new chip in.

Not much help, but it might prompt a reply from Paul. I thought to ask your questions, but forgot with the excitement of my xmas pressie!!!

It's given my car a new lease of life - 50,000 miles on the clock now!!!!

Sounds great with the powerflow exhaust on now, and believe me, it sounded sh1t before, like a wet f4rt.

Well if it seems that i would be keeping the car once things are sorted, i would look to do something like this..

Its all dependant on insurance increases etc.

The remap is undetectable by the clip and even if it did show it would only be a programm date!
The car would only return to standard if we did this with our tool or a dealer decided to do a software upgrade (unlikely).
If the battery went flat the software remains so no problems there.
A "group n" ecu is basically a standard ecu reflashed with a specific remap.

Pmurry,

What mods/changes/upgrades would you recomend on getting done, before getting the remap done?

I have a totaly standard 172 Cup. 02 plate.

All depends on your budget mate. Even with no mods the remap will still give a good increase. If anything get the inlets matched.

This really seems to be one of the best, most cost effectie mods for a RS.
This and the matched inlet together.......
15 + more BHP for £500.

  clio 172
just bought 172 standard apart from magnex exhaust (cat back) live in scotland picking it up in london not so many tuning places up here so was thinking of getting it done on the way up need suggestions on what to do going to spend about £500 on it, looks rs tuning is the place to go ?? cheers

Paul - I live in CArdiff and can get a group N remap at a local company called Total Tuning - my question is if you were me would you drive to Leeds (about 4-5hrs away) to get your remap or would you settle for the group N? Oh and the group N will be fettled with to take into account my mods (inlets, sports cat, exhaust, Air Filter) - would you think there would be a significant difference.

Hello mate

Sorry for the delayed reply.. This is a hard one to answer! It depends what you want really. As you know we do ALOT of clios but it is still depending on where you want to go. I can't see there been a massive difference in the two but i don't deal with the group n.

Hope this helped a bit!

Cheers

Paul
