Think i prefer the look of the old shifter rod lol.

New ones are much better and give it a more solid shift .

I am a big fan of the Puma also. It won't match a Clio for space, but they can be bought for absolute peanuts and the steering and gear shift is even better than the Clio. Just rust badly, lack a bit of power and there are fewer modifying parts available. A friend of mine bought a 50k minter for £300 though and it is a riot.

Yep - the Puma is a great shout. The Yahama derived 1.7 lump just loves to be thrashed and I agree with the steering and gearshift feel too.

My wife loved hers - she'd have another one tomorrow. Aside from the dreaded tin-worm (rear arches, especially) and a few starting issues, hers was a good all-rounder. Just a little down on overall umph - I'm convinced if Ford managed to get about 150 brake as stock from these, they would have been even more revered.

Then again, maybe that was the philosophy with these. Great handling, without silly power that would compromise the setup and/or make it too expensive to run and insure?

Hmmmm it depends. The engine was brilliant. I mean Would and all that handling.... If pushed yeah 180/200 n/a bhp would have suited the weight better as the rest of the car is unfaultable imo.

The power was what everyone commented on. The standard puma didn't really need more than 125 but it was heavy because it was decently quiet etc. The zetec s fiesta would make a better car imo than a standard puma and for some weird reason the brakes were so much better than the puma.

Anyway FRP > all

Ok after some reading I have got it down to the below options for all x 4 tyres

TOYO R888R £ 368

NANKANG NS-2R 120 TRACK £ 304

FEDERAL 595 RS-R £ 238

Does anyone have / used any of the above before .

Can't comment on the other makes tbh mate. I've used 888's which I found were good but went off after a few laps at oulton

The rsr although not the out right grip lasted longer and ment you could stay out more. The Nankang I've read arnt that great in the wet, so that might be a consideration?

What about the ado8r's? They are also very good price dependant

The ADO8R are £ 307 for the x 4 so about the same as the Nankang ones .

I thought that the TOYO 888R were the best for out right grip but did not last as long as the rest ?

I like the 888s, @Djw Dave didn't rave about the 595s he had, I only used them on a wet road and they were s**t for that!
I'd be going ad08 or 888 depending for you. If it was just local track days I'd be saying 888 but with a decent journey and the way you can't go flat out at the ring all day long I'd be picking the yokos.

Ok after reading for hours about different track day tyres I was thinking about the Nankang NS-2R , Yoko Advan ADO8R and the Federal 595 RS-R .

Im not going to be chasing lap times and just having some fun so want a stick track tyre so any of the above will be ok in my eyes .

They all seem to be the same and some people say this one is better and other say that is better so I think I am going to go with the Nankang NS-2R for the price and reviews .

The one think im not sure about is the compound as there is a 180 street and a 120 Track but im not sure if you can still get the 120 anymore .

I can get the NS-2R in 180 for £ 59.20 per corner ???

So the car is up and running and will be tax and insured so I can give it a test on the road but the idle is a bit lumpy so for the sake of around £ 50 I have changed all the sensors that are the common fault for rough running / idle .

I had the same problem with my old Civic Type R and this was the ICV .

The four sensors were below

ICV sensor

MAP sensor

Air sensor

Coolant sensor

Loving the build. I was looking potentially at a VTS myself for a track car, before I ended up with the Clio. As you know decent ones are like hen's teeth and just couldn't find one. Effectively a 106 GTi which has a highly revered chassis. Cant wait to see some ring video!

Yeah just need Tyres and tracking and its done :)

Will be fun to see how it gets on round the ring as last year I drove the rent 4 ring swift and they were very good so I hope the old Saxo can be around as good .

not tempted to reset the rear slightly lower to keep it more level, surely its going to nose down badly under braking like that?

overall though great work on the refit and for not actually 'ruining' it as all the bits are just bolt on anyway! lovely stuff!
