Service costs OUCH!!

  2005 Clio 182
Took the 182 in for belts and a service today plus sort out an oil leak. Its still in. I had a call saying that the oil leak was the camshaft oil seals. Then there was the following to be dealt with.
CV boot. Front and rear discs corroded. Rear tyres are perished. Exhaust is corroded. Bloody hell, so much for low mileage cars. Off to buy a lottery ticket....

  Mint 1*2's for sale-
sounds an expensive lot of work circa 1k all in> not sure of camshaft seals- but must be cheaper as they are doing the belts

Where have you taken it? A Renault garage? An independant Renault specialist? A random garage but the guy there has been "doing Porches for 35 years so knows what he's on about for a Clio?"

Corrosion, tyres, CV boot & exhaust is nothing to do with mileage (considering the car is 7 years old) and all to do with how well the car has been looked after. You're either unlucky to have all of this due at once or a bit silly to buy a car that needs so much doing :p

I don't know Y renault workshops sell used cars, parts and do minor & major services but still get hungry for more money

I am getting the belts, camshaft seals done and the CV boot. The rest can wait until I am solvent again. I knew the rear discs were dodgy but not the front ones and yes I didn't check the car over carefully! Never learn. Any advice on the exhaust replacement? I am not looking for LOUD. Cheers Paul.

Scorpion RS192, virtually OEM quiet but with;

1. Nicer tailpipes
2. Lower cost than OEM
3. Lasts forever (almost)

Win, win, win

just wondering how long have you owned the car ? just these things would be things to check when you were looking at the car really. ie service history and general checks

Hi about 15 months, 36k on the clock and 2 stamps in the service book. I am used to bills for cars, it was just a shock to get them all together and yes I should have had the car checked over!

Define corroded? Do the discs and exhaust actually need replacing, or is this the usual dealer spin?
The rear discs have significant corrosion and do need replacing, I thought the fronts were ok but maybe its on the inside. I do get some rumbling when braking. I will take a good look when I get it back today.

  Listerine & Poledo
Take the car for a run and stamp on the middle pedal, hard, a few times (when there's no-one else about, of course) and that disc corrosion will quickly disappear.
