My old car which was written off as a CAT C in February, is now being sold as an 'immaculate example'!!

The guy who bought it said he was going to fix it up and use it as a track car... Which clearly, was never the intention!


Mixed feelings really as I'm glad to see it back in a good way as it really was a flawless car before the accident.

But concerned that someone will buy it completely oblivious to its history!

EDIT: He says its HPI clear - wouldn't a HPI check pull it up if it was CAT C?

Well if he had got the HPI check around the time he bought it, the fact it was written off wouldn't have been recorded yet...

hi mate, im very interested the the clio. however, ive hpi checked the car to find out its actually a cat c.
this could bea genuine mistake as you could of bought it without knowing. i was a little disapointed but am still interested. realisticly the car is devalued massively because of this.
how much would you be looking for it now this has come to light?

Nice tbh I'm really not sure if the V5 is going to have it down as CAT C as it takes a while for that to go through and I sent the paperwork off very promptly - I have definitely seen where this has happened before.

How is he hoping to sell the car as HPI clear?? If it was a Cat C it will state it on the logbook and the HPI certificate is obviously a mickey one off the internet.

A lot of the time it's a double bluff.

'It's HPI clear' so people think he's being honest and wouldn't double check. If he did one as soon as he bought it off you, he might have a certificate that shows it as clear.

Yep, and with a VIC check comes a note on the bottom of the V5 stating it was a Cat C.

Is the OP sure that it was registered as a write off? By that I mean did the insurance actually pay out and declare it a write off? I'm genuinely confused as to how this doofus is intending on pulling this off??

He is selling the car without a VIC check. So when the new owner sends off the V5, the DVLA won't issue it and will make the new owner get it checked and then get a new V5 with Cat C written on it.

is indeed a c**ts trick!! I bought this off ebay end of last year, the chap never told me it was a cat c! I knew before i picked it up, never said anything to the bloke!! Hope i have been honest enough in the add!!!!! lol.

he sent me his number saying call me, i replyed
im at work at the minute mate so cant call. also the car hasnt ad a vic check, therefore the dvla wont re issue me with a logbook unless i take it for a vic check which is an extra £50 .to be honest it sounds asif you bought the car crash dmaaged and repaired it, dosnt bother me in the slightest but lol at the advertisement. what will u do it for mate? also nanother concern about no vic which means the car could be a ringer ( highly unlikely) but it could be. if i bought the car would come along to the vic centre before we traded money just incase it came back to bight me on the arse and was seased? also realisticly what are you going to do the car for £££ wise? thanks alot i am generaly interested

Thank you for posting this I favourited that page earlier as been looking at 182's recently!!

This is exactly why I wanted to post about it, especially because of how well written the ad is. It's a shame that he isn't just honest about the car - as pre-accident it was in superb condition, so to anyone who can get the right price for it; as long as it's been repaired to a good standard I'm sure it will still be a cracking car.

Sneaky ad because he is hoping that people will use his HPI check to validate the car-

Which is why you should always HPI check a car the DAY you collect it- ( or at least update your HPI when you go to collect)
