Shifty.'s Inferno cup. (pic heavy)

  182 Cup
Hi guys n girls, seeing as I've owned my Clio since 2008 and find myself signed off work I thought I'd do a progress thread for the Inferno, so here goes.

I bought the Clio in September 2008 after starting work at a Renault Dealership, saw the car on my first day there and had bought it 3 days later! Full cup spec on approx 19,000 miles with added A/C and Recaro Trendlines, also had tinted windows which I'll remove at some point when i don't have pov spec rear seats for everyone to see!! Unfortunately all the pics I took from that day were lost when my last laptop crashed.
Here's one pic from when i first got the car and a couple a few months later, where It's still standard bar a harness I had lying around.

It stayed standard until 2010, when it went to Ktec and had a full service including all belts etc, coilovers, solid top mounts and a remap.
Fitted a black front diamond and french style plates but after a couple weeks got pulled and fined so now only use them for pics and shows/meets etc.

pics before coilovers.

Carbon engine cover from ebay for £25.

Silvervision bulbs, skoda splitter as the original fell off and got run over and a trs tow strap which only lasted a couple weeks before i realised the error of my ways and that it looked naf on a roadcar and removed it!

Had all four wheels refurbed by south west wheel refurbs who did an amazing job, i forgot to take pics before i had them done but they were the usual state of kerbing marks and i also wanted them slightly darker than stanrdard cup anthracite wheels so had them done in aston martin sparkling graphite.

Added some carbon bullets from Chris Powell off here, look great and top notch work.

Yeah I've got a white line arb sat in my garage waiting to go on when I get round to it, I've ordered one of these controversial induction kits in orange from Ktec and it's booked in there in the summer for major service, uprated engine and gearbox mounts and cams too probably.

Plans sound good mate, by "controversial" do you mean open cone ?? like the plan of uprated cams, i had been hoping to do the same in the future. Still love the orange harnesses btw ;)

Today the new style RS badge I ordered from Wests on here arrived, cheers Tom, so I set about removing the old badges with a combination of a heat gun, some dental floss which kept snapping, and some tar and glue remover.
After most of the old sticky black stuff was off I clayed and polished the area until no signs of residue or marks were left, then measured where the clio badge sits and using masking tape and a spirit level marked up to have the new badge sit at the same level and straight.

Before.

Yeah I had some nice illegal pressed plates on it but got fined so put those shitty plates on, where's the best place for nice plain legal plates, don't fancy 3/4 plates as I'm known by the local bobies so they'll pull me straight away, do fancy plates do legal plates?

  Clio 182
Looking really good, agree on the plates though need some plain ones.

Yes fancy plates will do you legal sized plain plates :)

  Black gold 182
i know you've already done it now but why dont you take of your clio badg and if you line up the renault sport badge right you can cover the holes :)

  182 Cup
Cheers fatty and mat, as for the badge placement I can't have a badge one side n not the other, slight OCD, so decided to have the rs badge one side and keep the clio badge where it is, I do need to get a new clio badge though as I noticed the one that's on there has a crack in.

Oh and I'm nearly back to full health, be back to work Monday and at least I'm able to drive now which I'd missed!

That looks lovely. The only thing i dont like is the tints :)

Which ktec exhaust did you go for? Im interested in getting one.

  182 Cup
Umm it's the unsilenced supersports one I think, it's £330 on Ktec site. Tints will come out one day I expect but for now I think they look alright and it stops people seeing the pov spec rear bench!

Yeah thats the exhaust id been looking at. Whats the sound like? You should get a video up :)

It sounds good not too loud and has a nice burble on tick over, I've got the cat on at the mo so it's silencing it a bit too, I'll fit my decay again post mot.

  182 Cup
Standard just seems too small for the cut outs on 182 hence I went for something that would fill the cut outs better and it sounds like the Clio has purpose now.

Over the last month I've done a few small things to the inferno.

The first was having the car corner weighted and steering geometry set up by Bridgwater College, i cant recommend them enough, they did an excellent job on the clio and its really made a difference, all for only £50 and the money goes towards funding their Radical race car.

414875_3341430134871_578493876_o.jpg

This however highlighted the need for some negative camber so some camber bolts will be aquired soon and then I'll take the car back to them to fully set up.

Next up was a Renaultsport gear knob purchased from eBay, after hearing a couple stories of these not fitting after I'd already purchased it, i was a little worried, but when it arrived all that was required was to drill out the collar it comes with and screws onto by a couple mm which took but a few minutes, and was thusly fitted swiftly and looks and feels pretty good.

After a very spirited drive back behind chipmk1 from a meet in Wells my front diamond was left looking like this...........

551573_3510705926660_1373701339_n.jpg

And after several attempts at painting it, with primer, matt black paint and lacquer that my brother had lying around, i finally got it to a point i was happy with, and considering I've never sprayed anything i thought it came out pretty good in the end. Photos are from different attempts and some taken with iPhone so not brilliant quality but you get the general idea.

First stage was to strip all the old paint and sand before primer.

250638_3510713766856_212975366_n.jpg

Next up were several coats of primer and flatting before painting.

323185_3510713086839_283973870_o.jpg

Then came the painting, this is the stage i kept having problems with as i kept getting runs in the paint due to my poor technique but after several attempts finally got the hang of it.

250667_3510714846883_646871533_n.jpg

After a couple coats of paint i gave it a few coats of lacquer, after which i wet sanded with some 2000 grit wet n dry and then polished up as best i could, forgot to take pics of how it was before i sanded and polished but heres one of the sanding and polishing phase mid polish and the finished diamond.

And back onto the car, as said I'm chuffed with how it's turned out after basically teaching myself to paint by learning from my mistakes, and think the quality of the paintjob on it is actually better than it was before i started. spots in the pics are because it was raining when i put it on and took the pics. and the cars in need of a wash!

Sounds good mate, it certainly looks well looked after :approve: Im thinking of going back to the standard 16" 182 alloys too, not sure wether to go black or anthracite though :S

  182 Cup
I thought about black but decided I didn't really want them that dark so went for a slightly darker than standard anthracite.
