should have got a ...

  Ford F-150 5.4 V8

...CTR!!! No only jokin but right now im gettin really peeved off with my car! The alarm goes off wheneva it feels like it. Think ive narrowed this down to a fault with the internal sensors. This morning i came out to a flat tyre, fair enuff not renaults fault but just another problem! Then when i was at quick fit bin quoted £80 for a bloody conti the immobiliser decided to play a game!It took more than 10 attempts for me to start the car! Reckon its the immobiliser cos the fuel pump wasnt pumpin and IIRC the immobiliser cuts that! If when it was actually going it wasnt so much fun i would have sold it this afternoon!

Hasnt even got 2K on the click yet!! and its been back twice not including the above probs!!

  172 cup,s2 rs turbo

immobiliser problems are normally the key heads.swap the red and white ultrasonic connectors over to reduce there sensitivity.what alarm is it?(goldsheild, silversheild or compact)

dunno wot the alarm is its just standard renault fit! I aint gonna touch the alarm mate, its under warrenty so im gonna let renault do it. just need to get booked in at a local renault alarm specialist! not as easy as it sounds at the mo tho!

Jay I think only some Renault dealers are alarm "specialists" and he may have to goto another one near by that is.

  Ford F-150 5.4 V8

yeah my nearest dealer with an alarm specialist is in chesterfield an thats bout 30 miles from me! Not had chance to dig there number out yet but my 2 local dealers dont wanna know!

nice cars dont get me wrong but i just never considered 1! dont know why really.

Im only 22 tho and as soon as you say turbo to an insurance company it adds a few zeros on the end!

  Ford F-150 5.4 V8

yeah i looked at a nearly new impreza aswell but the insurance put me off! reckon i made the right choice in the end even if a few probs need ironing out first! I really love the fact most people dont realise wot it is!!

ctr!!!! more like a mpv!! and how many are on the roads? f**cking loads thats how many, common as muck

  Clio 190bhp Hybrid

Should have got a..................... Valver or Willy.

Had my Valver for nearly three years and it has never let me down. If you can put up with the squeaks and rattles, by turning the music up, its fine and I look forward to many more years of trouble free driving.

There, done it now !!!!! Better join the RAC.

More on the roads....probably because all the 172s have dropped to bits ;) And anyway, there are zillions of Clios on the road. Its not like Im driving a really exclusive car as it is!

CTR is a not bad car, but for 16k new the 172 has better value for money I think. I dont like the interior in the CTR, all plastic and plain, you get more interior in a 8k fester. I mean cloth seats in a 16k car? they look like nasty subaru rejects all that cotton and nasty colours, Suprisingly the in dash gear changer is really good tho, at hand and I like it, brakes are pretty whacky for a hot hatch too. The car doesnt go that well over a ton tho, you would think the six speed would make it a lot better, if the 172 had the same gearing it would win hands down. As it is there is not a lot in it at all.
IMHO hondas are all over hyped, the accord type R when new I took for a spin, they quoted 206bhp, it felt more like 150bhp at the wheels. I didnt like the fact you had to rev the nutts off it to get it go, and the tinn-e engine sound was just silly. More like a 2 stroke motorbike than a car sound. But 16k for a shopping trolly, which wont embaress by much an old hot hatch of yesteryear isnt my idea of fun or value for money. It has loads less than the 172.

The clio has I would say, better build quality, better interior, more extras, and is a better car. (I shoulkd know I had a crash in the new civic, and beleive, at 10 mph in traffic, nothing was left of the front (not me driving i might add).

Obviously everyone has bad experiences with new cars, some people will druve a new car for 70k and have no probs, others will last until out of the showroom and have probs, its luck of the draw I am affraid.

Reason I know about and drive a lot of hondas is my brother is a salesman there.

Cheers

Steve

Over 100 a CTR is very fast, ive got a video of one sitting on the bumper of a M3 (which was hitting its 155 mph limiter)

a civic type r (2001 model) does 146 top speed, so over 100mph they got 46mph top speed and a standard 1/4 mile is 15-16.5 secs! cant be that quick over a ton then can they?

Trust me mate, weve raced one against my car and there is so no contest at all, from 80 onwards I cant see the honda.

As soon as third comes out at 90 its slow in the rest. I have absolutly no idea how it kept up with the M over 150mph its not geared that high.

StevenAndy.. " weve raced one against my car and there is so no contest at all, from 80 onwards I cant see the honda"

does that mean you wasted the clio over 80 or vise versa??

Just to add my 2pence (or less). I have 172MKII 5k on clock so far. 1st day, big race up to 120mph. its a travel to work car and weekend blaster. im nearly always pushing past 5.5k on average and like to keep it in 3rd @ 5k and push the throttle till 7.5k and then i reach a bend let go.. and then again push on hard.. it sounds fantastic (now i know its not a porche ferrari lambo or even alfa GTA) but i agree that honda engine sounds tinny (even if it is faster). i dont think the 172 has been poorly built, i think its not enough money to pay for a car of that pace, handling and gadgets so corners were cut in design and materials... not build quality. everyone has a different story but so far even though i brake hard and use accelaration all the time in all gears.... (i may regret this) nothing.. and i mean absolutly nothing has gone wrong.. yes i has a few rattles (suspension is as hard as f**k).

So i wanted a CTR aswell.. i couldnt afford it. but for my first brandnew car purchase... a MKII172 Iceberg silver 5alloys, climate, sixcdchanger, T/C, ESP, powersteering, airbags, ABS, Autorainwipers, steering mount controls, lether/alacantra sports seats, nice fat engine roar + bloody quick at times

£12100 <<< !!! 53reg. if i pay 16k then i can get a CTR and have more pace.. but if i really wanted pace that much and no goodies i would have got a 2nd hand scooby with 300bhp for 12k...

ctr is a different price altogether in the real world forget £14600-15k on the renaultwebsite. iam not alone in the price i pay. hmm.... anymore.. by the way this post hasnt got and angry tone, its just my opinions.. and i really do feel for those who have crappy build issues but im affraid all cars have these.. even Honda

(12k +3k for 250bhp turbo conversion ;))

i think new and used are different matters, new the 172 wins, used....its got to be a CTR i think.

Unfortunatly I waste the 172 as well, and both off of the mark easily in the right conditions, BUT, thats not what I was saying. I am not on about my car vs clio or CTR, its just the comment made was about a CTR being very quick over a ton and my point is, it is very much not. (I am not on here to gloat I am on here cause I like the 172 a lot of people think a 300zx that some one has spent an extra 7k on is a peice of sh*t although Id have a fight with em lol!!)

I have driven both, been in both and used both on various occasions and I would have the 172 any day over the CTR. In fact, if I had a choice of an NA hot hatch the 172 it would be any day over the majority of cars.

Over all its better value and IMHO a much better car (the renault that is)

Thx

Steve

I got beaten over a 1/4 mile by VTec Abusers Civic Type R. Think he ran 14.65 standard. 14.8s and 9s most of the day. Over that distance its about the same as a standard Cup.

I drove the Civic and really liked it. Totally different car to the Cup, but still great.

great car the CTR.. problem was i couldnt get hardly anything off the list price.. doh! but i got £2500 off on my clio. sure the CTR may be better build but.. once again it does cost more..

i would have one though.

(BTW i drove an ibiza cupra and a leon cupra.. also st170 and liked the clio muchmore. (ST170 has great grip though)
