Is there an aux input socket behind the standard headunit so you can plug your ipod/iphone in? am i right in saying as an optional extra you could of paid for a cd changer which went under the passenger seat when new, if so that must of plugged in the back somewhere? :S

There are ways of doing it yes, as there will be a CD input at the rear. You'll need an adaptor though, you cannot simply plug your iPod into the headunit.

As Da posted you can't plug your Ipod or mp3 player directly into headunit, you'll need an adapter like this,
