Steering Wheel insert knackered - Mk2 172

Great, the list of problems is increasing, Got into my car last night, it had been sitting in the works car park all day in full sunlight. The right hand side insert on the steering wheel (the bit where your thumb rests) had became unstuck at the bottom and was sticking out, by the time I had got home it had split as it was twisting when I had my thumb on it. Im just hoping that they can put a new one on rather than replacing the whole steering wheel?

Good job its going in next Wednesday, should keep them busy with the steering wheel, 4k rattle, dodgy aircon!

Chris.

Let me know how you go on with inserts. Mine are marked and i wouldnt mind some new ones but i dont want to be replacing the whole steering wheel.

Cheers, for that, but Im hoping they will be able to fix mine or give me a new one as its obviously dodgy build quality again. It looks like they stick the steering wheel inserts on using hot melt glue, and they certainly havent used much hence it coming un-stuck. Im suprised this hasnt happened to anyone else yet?

ak_uk, because it happened before a long drive home, I had no choice but to drive with it loose, problem was that it has now split, so its gonna have to be replaced. Oh how I love renault build quality!

y0z2a, yeah I think the heat is responsible, pretty poor design, they just stick them inserts on with what looks like hot melt glue, and there wasnt much of it to hold it on either. If they had designed it properly the insert would clip into place or something?

Chris.

UPDATE:

The whole steering wheel is going to be replaced. I presume it is easier to do this rather than messing about trying to glue on a new insert?

Chris.
