STRBramley's 182 Project

  Bus Winker
Well I’ve had my Clio for just over four months now so I thought I'd start a project thread. Wasn’t sure if I should put this in Media or Projects but I guess I’ve done enough to warrant a project thread.

I’ll start with a background of the cars I've previously owned.

I got my first car in 2007 when I turned 18. It was an automatic Clio 1.2 expression 2003 which gave me nothing but problems. Picture below.

I then proceeded to chav it out by getting 17” alloys and rear lights. Looking back at it now I don't know what I was thinking.

While I still had my Clio I brought a Calibra from a friend for £100 with the intention of having it for a project to restore. Unfortunately due to lack of funds the project never got going and as the car was taking up space it had to go.

At the beginning of 2010 I swopped my Clio for a 2000 BMW 316 Compact. I really liked this car and in the short time I owned it it never had any problems and drove really well.

However, I later realised I wanted something faster and more fun so in June this year I part exchanged the BMW and got my Clio 182. It had 49k miles on it.

When I got the Clio home I soon noticed that it had some problems. The first thing to fix was the exhaust knocking due to the rear hangers wearing. So I ordered some new hangers and fitted them.
6350545100_d807bfc4f5_b.png

The next job was to replace the rear shocks as they were incredibly bouncy and unstable. Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures of this but I do have one of the shocks fitted.
6349799135_dc0e314473_b.png

I then decided I would replace my front shocks as I had a knocking coming from the front and there was no record of them ever being replaced.

Pretty rusty:

Nice new shocks:

Old shocks removed and new ones ready to go back on.

So after this the knocking didn’t go. If anyone knows what it might be let me know? It comes from the front left wheel and only occurs when I go over a pot hole and it is more noticeable when turning a corner.
Anyway, the next step for me was to get my alloys refurbed. They were in a really bad state and they were really letting the car down.
I didn’t want to pay for them to be refurbed so I sourced all of the things I would need and did them myself.
Here is what they looked like before refurb:

I was really happy with the results and it turned out much better than I expected.

Now I went on to my headlights. After the alloy refurb I was confident that this would be an easy job.
Here is what they were like before I started:

I used 1200 & 1500 grade wet & dry sandpaper, scratch x & super resin polish.
I taped up the edges so that the paintwork was safe.

Below are the results of the refurb. Only took a few hours and it makes a massive difference to the looks of the car.

Next I decided to fit a decat as my cat had a crack in it which was creating an annoying squealing sound. I got a decat from NATHAN182 on here. I also got a cat to manifold kit and a new exhaust bracket.

Next I decided to get a Skoda splitter as my splitter had a crack in the centre which can just be seen in the following picture.

Here are some pictures of the new splitter.

Next I decided to go on the search for a Yozza system. I found one quite quickly on the Clio Trophy forum for £300 with a decat.

While I was fitting the exhaust I noticed the heat shield had fell loose from the small washers so I fitted some bigger ones while the exhaust was off.

Here is the Yozza fitted.

This was by far the best thing I have done to my car as of yet. The sound is just fantastic. I was worried it would be too loud but after a few weeks I think it sounds perfect.
While browsing on the for sale section I found some Apex rear 40mm springs which is the exact drop I was looking for. Below are a couple of before and after pictures.

After:

And here are the springs I removed from the rear lol.

The final thing I have done so far is fit a tow eye and the Cliosport sticker :)

Well that’s it for now. Next step is to get the front lowered by 30-40mm, Re-stitched steering wheel and maybe Turinis :p

Thanks for looking. Sorry I didn’t have more pictures but I didn’t originally intend to do a project thread.

Looks great dude. I recognise the 1.2 too. You live round my way don't you??!

Yeah mate. I think we spoke about it briefly in the MFN meet thread. I live just over the bridge from MFN next to Raleigh.

I had that 1.2 for just over 3 years. Had a new gearbox, new ecu (twice, as the fitted the wrong ecu first time round) and a whole load of other things.

  Bus Winker
Ahhh yeah, that's the one. Definitely knew the 1.2 then. Don't think i've seen the 182 knocking around yet. Does look mint though!

Only place I really park around Eastwood is in the car park behind the Sun Inn, near Morrisons. Usually parked in there between 5 - 6.

Small update:

I painted my calipers silver over the weekend and I forgot to add them into this thread.
So here they are. Only got a couple of pictures but I'll hopefully get better ones up soon.

Not much of an update but here is a video of how the Yozza sounds. Poor quality audio and not much happens until the 1.30 mark.

Yeah I replaced the ball joint about three weeks ago and forgot to update this thread. It fixed the knocking. :D Cheers for the advice anyway.

Small update. Decided to fit my cat after having a decat for the last few months. It was just too loud and the noise it makes now with the Yozza is just right.

The problem is that the cat makes an annoying whistling sound which I thought was due the a crack but that has been welded up. The whistling isn't present with a decat so it has to be the cat.
Anyone else notice a kind of whistling noise with theirs?

  Bus Winker
Decat is back on
The whistling cat was driving me mad.

My daily commute seems to be costing me far too much these days. So I am going to save up and buy a diesel and keep the Clio as a track car.
I removed the rear seats, seat belt buckles and parcel shelf this weekend. (These are now for sale if anyone is interested)

I am also looking for a false floor. So if anyone has one for sale please let me know.

I'll start getting the pictures up as the project progresses now that the weather is getting better.

Does anyone know the best way to remove the rear seat belts? I took the two screws out of the plastic guard but it still seems to be screwed in.

False floor arrived and fitted today (Thanks G3 NYX)

Not a great picture as it was getting dark but it makes it look much smarter than before.

Anyone know the best way to remove the rear seatbelts?

Looks sick!
To remove the seatbelts you can pull back the carpet and get a socket up there, or just rip the plastic out then take them off that way.

  Bus Winker
Cheers mate I'll sort that at the weekend.
The floor isn't secured down yet as I haven't had chance, I'll get it done this weekend.
