Great day today, good to meet lots of new faces.

Mine seemed as little strange at the top end, died on its arse over 6,500rpm where everyone else's just hung on to the power. Still, 185.5 bhp and near 160 lbft show a good gain for removing power steering and adding a bit of pipe to the filter.

I've now broken the magic 200 now as well...205.2 bhp/ton :approve: :D :approve: :D and once the passenger seats swapped out I'll be at 210.

it was an awesome day indeed, and some huge surprises, especially from the Cups, and Ditz for me was probably the most surprising of all! Checking out the mods in general was interesting, nice fancy carbon work on your jamesstone!

Heres mine in action, secretly i wanted 180 (even though i was pretending to want 160), so getting just under 190 was a genuinly nice surprise! :D

basically they released press cars with normal 194bhp tuning, then de-tuned them when released to the market to meet emissions at 199 co2 milligrams or whatever it is (for tax reasons to keep it under 200 and make it look appealing), and also to help its awful MPG.

Problem was they never told anyone this and all the owners have been moaning about awful cold starts and general lack of power, so Renault have now 'fessed up to actually having a software patch to put it back to its former glory! It made a big difference. Its a free jobby under warranty :)

no pic of mine im afraid but i went last in my ph1 172 as i didnt want to embarass myself as i thought i would only get about 140-150bhp...so when it finally got on i could not believe it put out 177.2 bhp.....charlie at ssr said it was one of the quickest ph1 172's he has had.....not bad considering it cost me 2k and its done nearly 103k and is pretty much standard apart from the fastchip remap and open cone filter for the heat soak, just goes to show that even a high mileage 172 can keep up with the best.....im happy

Noooooo That not true!!! All Clios (172/182) also suffer with cold start issues. Its just a bit more apparent on the 197.

its in Sunningdale, KT16 0EE, tucked away in MOD territory, its called Surrey Rolling Road.

Cheers for that.....is it expensive??very interesting read you wrote about the patch REN put on the 197's!

we went as a group and paid £35 each, well worth it! They use dyno dynamics which are regarded as the most reliable.

The 197 patch was a funny one, i started a thread on the official renaultsport forum mentioning i had it done at my local Renault dealer, at first renault denied it on the forum, but then i posted their own technical code as proof so they had to issue a statement on my thread admitting it! Its had about 8000 hits i think.

Thanks again for squeezing my Trophy in at such short notice. Now gives me a good baseline before I get the new exhaust and remap.

Good to meet you all!

Think I will take my 182 there and check the BHP....its head has been skimmed...new cam belt and all that since the head gasket went...all paid for by REN though which is good!cheers for the info!

you are right, it happened on the 172 and 182 as well, i've had both, they tried to rectify it for the 197s (which they did) but then couldnt meet certain figs, trust me on it this is coming from someone at Ren, its a long story and i am close to the source, people have been in touch with me since my thread, i'm saying no more!. Lets not hijack this thread tho, its a separate issue.

Good results folks! :)

I got 183.8 bhp on mine - standard. Although saying that, we all got high outputs that day

This rolling road has upset a few owners, Ph1 172's in the past have only made 145bhp, so the fact that the majority of the cars were over 170bhp was astounding to me, obviously some very well looked after and cared for cars!

I am convinced that something extra has been done to my car as 180 with just an ITG seems far to good to be true.

Glad that everyone had a good day and just a reminder that this is organised at least yearly, so I hope everyone comes along next time!

so what the hell has been done to mine.....i know it had the remap but to hit 177.2 is to me unbelievable....im still looking at the printout as i cant understand how a ph1 172 with 102k on the clock hit that figure saner, its beyond me and im baffled...still as a treat i fitted her with a new battery and ph2 rear lights just to say thankyou

I can vouch that it was reading the same as it was last February, and that was the same as it was reading in January 2007.

Looking at my graph my mods gave gains over my last two visits but only in the meat of the rev range - at the top and bottom the figures matched exactly with previous runs.

If it was optimistic then I'd have seen gains all the way I'd have thought?

Gutted i missed this, as i came to the one last year, would have been good to see the increase! Difficult to come when i've got no gearbox!
