My "182" was taken to Mass Racing near Cambridge today and tested on the same rolling road as the group Renault test shown in last Nov/Dec issue of Performance GTI. Boss CHris Conoley said it was one the best hed tested there.

It compared more than favourably with the best on that test. Results where Bhp ATW.

Peak power 149 Bhp atw @ 6500 rpm.

This equates to a genuine 194 Bhp atf @ 6500 rpm.

This is how my car would have slotted into the results of that test (Bhp shown ATW)

172 Cup (supersprint race exhaust, Modified ECU, Pipercross Viper) ......................................... 150

My 182 (K-Tec sports exhaust and cat, Superchip, Pipercross Viper).......................................149

182 (no mods)......................................................................................................................................... 140

2.0 16v (Williams conv. Induction kit, Exhaust, Cams & Pullys) ....................................................133

182 (Pipercross Viper)............................................................................................................................130

2.0 16v (Williams conv. Magnex System, Kent Cams & Pullys, Followers, Superchip)..............128

172 (JR Induction Kit)............................................................................................................................127

2.0 16v (Williams Conv. De-Cat, Panel Filter)....................................................................................118

now this makes veryu little sense to me? has this fella got a good result from his mods and what does the difference in the results equates too?

1/4 of his power lost a total of 45bhp through transmission losses? hhhmmm doubtful. besides ATF figures are so innaccurate, take it out and put it on a dyno then you can quote ATF the only think that makes things a level playing field is the ATW figures and thats assuming the measurements were done on the same RR on the same day(to take into account ambient temp and humidity etc)

so you got an extra 9bhp at the wheels for the £2600+ ahhh soz mate but that does not sound worth it to me... I was all in favour of you mods and wanted the same for mine but Ill stick to the 182 no mods! I think should have paid £3000 for the turbo conversion... just out of interest what did the insurance say about the mods? how much extra?

Correction

It cost me £1,172.01 (vat extra) for the extra BHP NOT £2600 (slight difference)

Other money was for b/m short shift, 30mm lowering and the biggest part £800 for the 4 pot brake conversion. Also there was vat and fitting.

As I said the car feels like chalk and cheese to the one I bought.

OK..... 9bhp atw may not sound much, but this car is now a genuine 194bhp and that works out to £97.66 per extra bhp

Let me also correct you as the K-tec turbo conversion is £5000. Yes more power, 250bhp, but that works out to £73.52 per extra bhp

I am not a lover of turbo cars, having owned a 305 bhp Evo 7 in between my 172 and my current Clio 194. I dont care for the lag and much prefer a normally aspirated responsive engine.

Anyway I now have a scorching Clio which is much different to the original and with a 4 pot brake conversion which allows me to brake much later!!

Im very sorry if you are not pleased with what Ive done, but must confess to be over the moon myself.

Oh, is that you I see in my rear view mirrorhttp://www.renaultsport.co.uk/community/forum/images/icon_smile_evil.gif

The 182 with the Viper was mine........

It was 2 weeks old at the time, and had only covered 1200miles when it was spanked on the RR

Also, you have to remember that on the day the others were run was a VERY hot July day, and he ran in cold January etc.

yes DO NOT FIT AN INDUCTION KIT TO YOUR CLIO

i did and it was very bad,

you have to get the car remapped if you fit an induction kit.

WHich is why i will be interested to see all you guys who have just got panel filters will be ok, ITG say you will be because of the air box restriction,

A full induction kit has no air box restriction which is why its so bad without a remap.

I had a full viper carbon induction kit, the mapping was way out.

you have to get the car remapped to make them work well.

Roamer did this about 2 years ago if he is still around and ended up having to have a super chip fitted to fix the problem they cause

i think Mass calculated most things including the air temp - which was 30 degrees +

:)

ATW is the figure that counts anyhow... FlyWheel is a finger in the air job.

it was cocopops car, and it was brand new - 1200 miles on it, so probably not a clear indicator, as it was not really run in so to speak.

  Nippy white cup

lol Thats cool. I got 154 atw and was told it was about 185ish...Now I can say it was near 200bhp. Woohoo! ;)

yoz

at what mileage would you say a 182 engine would be run in at?

I have given mine death from day one and i now has 1800 miles on it, how much longer before it is nice and loose?

People say only around 10,000+ do they start to loosen up.

It is an engine that improves with age thats for sure.

My 172 Didnt really wake up until about 28k Miles. It woke up somewhat at 10,000, but at 28+ it flew. I have 72,000 on now and she is a rocket.
