T4RKO 172 Cup

Offshore for a break I'll bet.

I hope so but I doubt it as it usually mega busy offshore too! I am hoping things settle down both onshore and offshore this summer so I can chill out a little and do some more enjoyable things.

You drove it?! Does it run ok?

It runs like sh*t at tick over which I suspect is either the balancing or getting the idle stop adjusted so its not running rich or lean on zero percent throttle at 10 raw TPS counts. Once actually moving it runs well but does pop and bang off throttle which again will be something to do with zero throttle. I have also realized that I should have had some slack in the throttle cable. I set it all up so the pedal height was right and that when it hit the pedal stop it also reached 100% throttle but I didn't leave any slack at all which make it very comical trying to drive in first gear at walking pace!

I am off up to Aberdeen in it tomorrow night so I just hope I can get it all set up tomorrow and also that the map will be fine for the engine to cruise 250 miles on low throttle. I will be taking a selection of tools and setting off early thats for sure! Coolant pipes didn't seal on the radiator well but I have a few jubilee clips now so will get them on and see what happens. I think it actually stopped leaking once warm. Needs a coat of crusty limescale stuff to help seal it lke it was when I pulled it off! lol

Like a total d*ck head I snapped one of the MLR bonnet pins tightening it too much so have ordered a new set that should be here tomorrow. This will leave me with one spare which I am going to try and use on the front of the bumper behind the number plate I hope.

Previous owner of my blue cup was a member on here. There is a sticker in the rear window and this was in the tax disc holder:

I needed two clamps on the bottom hose on the rad for it to seal properly.

I have a full box of Jubilee clips of all sizes here so could put two on the top and bottom. Have also been looking at forge coolant hose kits but I have a feeling they are a waste of money. Specially seeing as I have another full set off my other engine.

Had a busy day yesterday. Up early and used the jump starter pack for the first time on the quad to get that running and then I levelled the ménage and then put the quad battery on charge. Fed the goats, horses, chicks and chickens all before 8am. Then spent until lunch time finishing off the fencing. Once that was finished I went to the workshop where the silver clio still is and removed the wiper arms which have been sold and packed up a lot of my tools to take them home. My wife took these home for me and I followed on the GSXR that I left there when I drove the blue one home on Sunday.

Back to the animals and it was time to muck out the horses, goats chickens and chicks and do a very strange but important job of picking the poo from the chicks bums which has become stuck and blocking their hole!

We then collected the eggs from the breeding pens to store ready for incubation, filled up the feeders, drinkers, changed the straw in the nest boxes and treated with red mite powder.

Still more work to do as it was time to exercise the horse before it went dark. After this it's time to settle the horses and the goats down for the night so they had hay nets filled, supper made and fresh water.

Now as its going dark I finally get chance to work on the car! I added some coolant and out some jubilee clips on all the hoses to and from the radiator. I adjusted the throttle cable and set the zero counts with the gen tuner and made sure the pedal went all the way to the floor just at 100% throttle so there was never a chance that you could cause excess pressure on the cable termination or body stops.

Once running I set the idle correctly and it turns out it was running way too lean and the butterflies were open too much at idle which was causing the back firing. This made everything run much more smoothly and the engine sounded much better. I changed the flow on all four bodies and noticed they ranged from 5.5 to 7 between all 4. My issue here was that I knew how to balance two against the other two but not how to adjust each one. I left then how they were for now as it was getting dark and I still didn't have the bumper fitted.

I attached the CMComposites splitter to the bumper and bumper to the car. At this point it's almost 20:30 and it's time for tea.

After tea it's another dash outside to put everything away, empty the wheelbarrow we keep all the fire ash in, fill up the coal scuttle and tidy up.

That's all the outside jobs finished! Time to pack my work bag ready for offshore and get to bed at 22:30. 2 hours later the alarm goes off and it's time to test the clio out on a trip to Aberdeen! We are about half way there now and making good time. Not going to comment on how it's going as I don't want to jinx anything!

By the time I get to Aberdeen and checked in for my flight it will be 7am and 24 hours since I started my busy last day at home.

Tea was very nice too! The Mrs made chicken Jalfrezi with rice, garlic and coriander nan, samosas, onion bhaji and some dippy stuff like lime pickle and mango etc. Tried some new Ben and Jerrys ice cream that was on offer too. Peanut Butter and Cookie Dough! Was pretty good but I do like anything with peanut butter in it.

Forgot to mention some other jobs I did on the car. The new bonnet pins arrived from Matt Lewis so I replaced the snapped pin and used locktite on them so I didn't have to do them so tight and snap one again!

Whilst I had he locktite out I also decided to remove the trumpet screws one at a time and coat in locktite before replacing them again. The last thing I want on the way to Aberdeen at 3am is one of those vibrating loose and trying to get inside the engine!

One thing I did forget to do was refit the washer hoses from the carbon bonnet back to the silver bonnet! Don't tell the fuzz though! Good job it's a dry clear night.

Well that's me in Aberdeen parked up ready to make my way to the Airport. Apart from feeling like I have sand in my eyes everything is good. The car ran well. A few Tweeks required but nothing major. Booked in for mapping at EFI on the 18th April so anything that needs adjusting can be sorted then.

Engine is tidy enough but I intend on shortening the throttle cable and also cleaning up the rocker cover which went fury as the silver car was left outside without the bonnet on:

I'm cream crackered at the moment! Just boarding a flight from Aberdeen to Shetland so will get half hours snooze now. Then another half hour on the Chopper and then I will be on shift until 18:30. Early night tonight I think!

I made the mistake of not locktighting mine in! An hours track time, mother fell off!

@Scoff I just thought you might like to have a look through my thread to get some background ready for when I come down for mapping next month. Anything I need to do first? Other than fit some Cams which would be nice! Lol

Check out this beast I have just acquired to cruise up and down to Aberdeen is so I don't have to endure ITB's, No interior and PMS Race exhaust anymore!

It runs a bit rough but I think its likely to be an air leak. Will see how it goes! lol

After a lot of carrying on I have finally got my plate T4RKO on the Blue Clio. This has meant I can now sorn the Silver Clio and get some tax back from that and have already swapped the insurance over from the silver Clio to the Jag!

Have you compression checked all the cylinders and made sure all the injectors are working properly? Cylinder 1 being low could be either of those reasons.

No I didn't have any compression equipment. I have lots of injectors (12 in total) so bound to have at least 4 that are good. I will compression test the engine sometime if I can. I think my friend has a compression testing kit. I have never had any experience with one to be honest. I initially thought it would just be balancing as it was a second hand set of throttle bodies and I never adjusted the bleed screws to get the balancing right.

If one cylinder is different on a pair of bodies and they have come from a running car the likelyhood is an engine issue whether its compression, fuel or spark.

When setting mine up orginally I had one cylinder out, and when all my cylinders came out at 195psi I changed the injector and all was fine.

The Clio is looking good mate, what sort of power is it putting out? Is your engine cammed? have you got the jag running better now as well?

I am not sure what power it has at the moment as I am just running the base map and only part throttle as it might run lean with the exhaust and longer trumpets. No cams yet as the engine just had its dephaser and belts done before I bought it. Need to save up £1000 ish I would imagine to get Cams fitted and mapped.

It's going to EFI on the 18th so should know then what it's putting out. Also there is a straight liners event locally on the Sunday so might see what 1/4 it can do (I know that's not what the clio is about but might as well).

The Jag isn't running that great but I am 99% sure I know what's wrong with it. I think it has a perished rubber hose under the inlet manifold that is a vacuum line. It's sucking in air so even off throttle it's drawing in air after the MAF so it drives itself and gets confused. Not an expensive job but have the take the inlet manifold off to get to it.

Out for my tea at the moment at a place called The Last Zebra and then off to see the Fast and The Furious 7! The first time in months we have ventured out of the hills into the city! Lol

Oh and I'm doing a 10km mud obstacle course in the morning! Not done any training and don't even know exactly where it is. Lol. It's not going to go well but it's only the first one of the year so can use it as a bench mark for the rest of the year.
