Telecoms specialists - DDI & MSN question

Chaps,

Can DDIs and MSNs co-exist on an ISDN2e circuit at the same time? Or does it have to be one or the other?

Currently got 2x ISDN2e's setup with ten MSNs each for faxing. But we're after pointing some DDIs at the ISDNs and wanted to know if its possible? I'm sure when these lines first went it, it could only be MSN or DDI supporting - not both.

Cheers,
D.

MSN's are provisioned on Digital Standards where as DDI's are provisioned on Digital Systems i,e ISDN 2e with 2 or more channels.

If you have DDI's on your ISDN 2e then the configuration will be set to point to point ie with a phone system. Your MSN's now will be point to multi point i.e different peices of ISDN 2 hardware connected to the circuit through a terminal adaptor for example

Hope this helps.

as above really.

ISDN2 can only ever be MSN or DDI. Usually MSN is a maximum of 8 so not sure how you got 10 on each ISDN2 circuit.

So you need another ISDN2e for DDI where you can have a maximum of 4 set's of DDI blocks of 10 or single numbers (eg 40DDI's).

I'm pretty sure you can have 10 MSN's under one circuit.

Yes its a maximum of 4 sets/separate ranges of DDI's but the range can be bigger than 10. DDI's only come in blocks of 10 yes but you could have 1000 DDI's under 1 set if you wanted.

If you get what I mean lol ;).

Also Darren the main point is that if you change your ISDN 2 so you get DDI's then the configuration will change from Point to Multi Point to Point to Point. You will need to make sure you equipment is compatible for this signalling type.
