Next challenge was the dials/dash set-up, the plan!

Rip apart the original part of the dash to mount on to the clocks, like so..

DSC05491.jpg

Bolted through like so, smoothed all the top half off to so it should look fairly tidy when its all covered up

DSC05492.jpg

Next, sourced some 150mm trunking lid from work, have other uses for this stuff in the future to, keep an eye out for the brake cooling ;)

DSC05506.jpg

So added some cuts to allow it to bend & then had a quick trial

DSC05511.jpg

Then added some 6mm holes for the bracket to be fixed down too

DSC05512.jpg

Then got my custom plate to the right size, fitted the dials to it using 4mm screw & nuts, did a quick trial mount with it all thogether, took it all apart for filling & painting, then bolted it all back togehter, finnished piece :approve: - no £400+ dash needed here!

Plan to cover the remainder of the dash/dial surrounds in some thing like black felt or some thing similar, door cards will be done in the same material too

Next job, hide the rest of the wirring & make some door cards, then the interior is pretty much done, then its onto the engine, power steering & aircon removal, not looking forward to that :dapprove:

looking good mate !! can not wait to see what it makes on the rollers !! :D

You & me both mate, wonder what it will make with all the aircon & power steering off... plans for the exhaust "may" have changed, i'm now thinking of buying the OMP race sytem

Tom, i dont plan to be there that late again lol, did the car get rottern on the way home lol?

Couzen, LOL at the copyright ;), JMS Tuning will one day be involved in formula 1 or some thing low key like that :rasp:

rotten-ish, but thats life, at least its all luverly and SRP'd, EGP'd or whatever that stuff is lol. What time you down there today? I'll be there at about 6.00 mate.

Reading this with great interest, looks like a good job your doing on the car. I pick up my ph1 172 tomo :) KNow charlie from SRR well, and should try to get along with it for a run and see how its performing. What is the deal with mapping the car, how did you do it James and how easy i it for me to get done?

** NEWS **

Sad day in the work shop today, was told it was time to move on & back to my trusty drive way/work shop so think work will slow down with being out side, i know hard core track car builders do it through snow & rain but it really gives me no kicks at all, i'v got till April to get the fooker finished but would like it ready for the rolling road on 31st Jan so we shall see unless i can get my hands on a garage near by wich i think i may just be able to sort, all comes down to lack of christma time funds :dapprove:

On the plus side, i drove it for the first time tonight.... :D - - fook me, its mental! Just noise every where esecially with the new induction kit, would say power is similar to my PH2 thats running 184bhp, track cars running every thing pretty much standard engine wise so guess its putting out any where between 155-165 a good race exahust, decat, remap, inlets matched & removal of all the pulleys should make it a complete weapon, the drive made me relise just how good coillys are again

Have been to surrey rolling road before, my PH2 made over 184bhp :approve:, looking forward to the next one as the PH1 is running next to nothing on Aux set-up ;)

If you want it mapped drop me a Pm me, JMS Tuning is based in Staines, Surrey ;)

good work so where is all your heating controls etc ?

Thats part 2, work is currently under way but as said above, i'm outta the work shop so think work is gonna slow down abit

Would love to see this at some point fella!

When i'm back from snowboarding i'll more than likely be working on it on any sunny weekend so your more than welcome to drop by & check it out mate ;)

  e92 + E46 M3 + Cup
fuel cutout might go off when you slam the bonnet tho

Same thing went through my mind as i had just finished it lol, did 5 drop bonnet trial runs & so far so good, if it causes problems i'll just move little fooker, was also fine on the 13 odd mile drive home last night & i wasnt exactly crawling along lol, thing really shifted & that was 2 up, gonna be mental when the engines done & go out on my own, that will be another 70+kg's off :D

Burp, hows your power steering removal going? i'm waiting for some one to put some pics/info up before i start pulling it all to bits lol

its done mate. no pas pump on the engine just a alternator.

im switching to an electric pas pump from a saxo

  e92 + E46 M3 + Cup
No faith in the trusty DCI rack then? how come? thought running an electric pump would still cause the alternator to work which would mean you could still loose BHP? how much work is involved in your saxo set-up? may well be interested in this route my self if its simple to do so, i imagine not though right? as getting the pump mounted & plumbed into the lines?

doing the same on mine its simple enough only issue is getting a high pressure line made (return you can make yourself)

i personally would rather do that job than change the rack

  e92 + E46 M3 + Cup
Hmmmmmm... sounds tempting & easyer lol, ditz or burp, any idea's as to how to make either of the lines, high pressure & return? to be honest i havent really looked to much into this so i think a morning out side with some hot choclate & i'll get the thinking cap on, got any pics of the saxo pump? ideas on mounting? & is it used on all models or just the likes of the VTR / VTS?

  LY 182
used on lesser models too,, you want the later one ideally as the res is built it earlyer one has a seperate res just harder to mount.

your cars stripped isn't it so no heater box?? i'd put it in the scuttle..
or where the battery goes

lines can be made easy there are loads of on site hydraulics places that will come and do it

return is just a length of pas hose you can jubilee clip

  e92 + E46 M3 + Cup
Thanks for clearing that up for me ditz, i imagine there fairly cheap to come by in the scrappy then, when do you plan on doing yours ditz/burp? need pics & inspiration lol, take it its not very big if it can be mounted in the scuttle pannel, ideally i would like it mounted as low as possible, aiming for a vey low CG to get the car to handle spot on, hopefully the polly carb windows will be a big help but hear the rear window is near impossible to do unless you go to a specialist = £££ :dapprove:

  LY 182
mine will be done after christmas got the pump but need some brackets to fit the pas rack..

already cleared a space in the scuttle (it does fit) but if you want it low you could probably make some brackets and mount it infront of the gearbox behind the front bumper

and yep thats the pump

  e92 + E46 M3 + Cup
Nice one ditz, sound like in front of the gearbox is my best choice, keep me posted on how you get on with yours pls mate as i'll be looking to have it in for january for surrey rolling road on the 31st jan;)

  172 Race Car
Ive got the pump with the built in resovior. they go for about 80-100 on the bay. Got mine cheap through a mate tho. High pressure pipe can be made up but it might be easier/cheaper to get the clio and saxo pipes joined up, depeding on where the pump is gonna sit.

Ive planned on putting it in the scuttle (one reason ive done that wiper linkage mod) Ideally I wanted it on the nearside but the wiring loom is in the way. it will sit on the off sidequite nicely, cup racers have them there............

DSC00716.jpg

Not sure if its the ideal place for it on our right hand drive cars. Other options im exploring are to fit it in the original battery location or be really hard core and mount it in the passenger footwell, with the pipes going through the bulkhead.

Currently the idea im leaning towards is the original battery location, purely coz the clio pas pipe runs near here and will be very easy to join to the new pump at this point. At the gearbox mount area the hose is steel and not flexable. making all new pipes is doable but more hasstle/expense than going to my local guy and asking him to join pipe A to pipe B. Low pressure pipe is a diy job with some suitably sized hose and a joiner so no probs on that. Hope this helps

Mark, got to keep it coz my Doris drives it occasonaly. Plus im planning on getting some serious castor dialed in so it will be heavier than yours if i went to manual.

What? :S

Its brainstorming man, gotta feed the ideas in to come up with a sloution ;)

Apologies! I didn't post that, it was my daft mate...

Leaving the laptop on and logged-in FAIL tbh.

Hope it didn't cause any offense! :dapprove:

mmm JMStuning won't want to put the gear there due to his groundbreaking "bendless" airbox design! There is so much space in the passenger footwell now due to the complete lack of, well anything that I would think that would be your best bet, are there any risks involving burst pipes etc though?

passenger foot well is a good place, nice and low and further back. Its just the pipes the are a little more difficult. Pipe wont 'burst' if you have a leak it wil just pour oil out onto the floor

Hey james i got an idea for your airbox it should give you more room and may be a cs first not sure if it will work though. you going to the jan bracknall ghetto meet i will chat with ya then mate. when you on hols from and to dates

I'm on holiday now geezer, recovering in the bar now from yesterdays "i'm bullet proof mode which ended in alot of pain lol, so spending the day in the wi-fi bar relaxing & taking in the sunshine & clear blue skys washing it all down with a few bulmers :approve:, will be back on the 6th which by then i need to pull my finger out & get it ready for the rolling road ;)

I'm pretty sure theres nothing more that can be done to the airbox side of things, the plan is to finish off with 2 70mm cold airfeeds to below the headlight, job done! but i'm always keen to hear ideas, what did you have in mind? yea should be @ the camb meet which is beging of January, COUZENS - TEXT ME THE DAY BEOFORE AS THAT THREAD IS A PAIN IN THE ARSE, NO ONES CONFIRMING LOL

Burp, whats your grand plan mate? i may do it if it simplifies things
