The coolest car on the road!

  Meg on pistonheads £6995

at the weekend my 9 year old nephew said my car was cool and HIS 66 year old Gran would love a Clio too!!

Id argue that there is not another car on this planet built today that appeals to both sexes and ALL ages in the same way!

IMHO the ORIGINAL Mini, early Landrover (pre power steering and carpets), Mk1 Golf are the only other cars with this kind of "all round appeal"

The NEW Mini is out on price and space (8K + second-hand and 2 seater really), the 2CV and Beetle were brilliant, but not really classless!

as What Car said when voting it Top Supermini 2003 "its classless and looks right outside the Chippy or at Ascot Races"

there ARE cheaper OR faster OR smaller AND certainly better built and cooler cars, but I think its dead cool that I feel as close to the owner of a £300 RL as I do a new V6 owner and even cooler that a granny with a blue rinse wants a car like mine!!

AND I could never imagine a 330Ci owner flashing a D reg 316 with plastic wheeltrims!

YES, NO??

er.........NO!

None of us would be on here if we could afford a better car (v6255 owners aside!)

Lets face it clio vs porsche/BMW/AUDI, whilst some renosports will match them on speed, that im afraid is it

BRAZO

I think you missed the point - Id love a Porsche!

its the classless popular appeal that is appealing (excuse the pun)

Id hazard a guess that most of us also find the thought of a Roller or Maybach vulgar!

Id also rather eat spaghetti bolognese rather than Caviar!!

yea agreed clio is afordable by everybody and loved by everybody, i have yet to here anybody knock the look of either the old mark 1 like mine or the new clios. only thing that ever let the old clio down was the interior.

but yea is loved by all sexes, all ages.

"appeals to a much larger number of market segments"

I agree, Clios appeal to a lot of age groups. We have 3 at home, My 16v, my sister has a 1.4RT and my folks have a 03 reg 172.

I love my clio as well and saw the thread was dying with no repiles so said something controversial and guess what - popular thread!

I have been fortunate in some respects over the last few years to have a company car as has my wife. We have had new A4 1.9 TDi, 156 Veloce 2.4 JTD, and a Freelander TD4 for 3 year periods each.

I have never owned a renault before and I must say that having lost the company car and bought privately, I am entirely chuffed with my 182. Lots of fun and no problems at all. Build quality not as good as the Audi obviously but not noticeably so much as I can find cause for complaint.

My experience so far has led me to consider a Megane for my wife.

And i hate BMWs, apart from E30 M3, New M3 and any M5 for obvious reasons. A4 far better than 3 series as are Audi staff better than BMW.

I love my cup and for the price not much can beat the clio sport range on fun ect you cant compare a bmw porsche or audi to a clio there all german and audis are very dull indeed bmws offer some models with hi enjoyment of driving included but if i could afford porche/bmw/audi id buy a tvr !

  172

Ive had a few cars and ive also got a classic (proper!!!) mini, The clio seems to be the only thing nearly close to how everyone seems to like them no matter what age/sex they are etc

Danny

Only reason ive got a clio is cause i cant afford to insure a more powerful car!

Granted its a nice car but theres so many round near me :(

Oh I could knock the new shape Clio on looks believe me! But as they say its all a matter of opinion ;)

  Clio v6

I like the Clio because its small and nippy. I could afford any Porsche I wanted, but they just aint my cuppa tea. I also like the Clio V6 because its different.

Porsches are expensive, but at the same time they are also two a penny, if you know what I mean.

i could afford a better newer car, but i dont want i like the old school beast of the valver. everyone under estimates it

I opted out from my company car scheme - coming out of a Honda Accord Type-R (before that MG ZT) to buy my own Clio.

With the opt-out cash I could stretch to a Subaru STi/330/Leon R/RX-8 etc but to be honest none of them were THAT much faster on the road, and the running costs are just plain scary on some of them.

The Clio provides a fantastic price/performance combo - and gets loads of comments - theres nothing this side of £30k that Id rather be in (especially at £17k this side of £30k!) - and despite it being my first Renault, Ive no complaints do date.

Disagree 100% mate.

Ive had BMWs and Audis. And I still come back to Renault for great fun and great handling cars. Plus the V6 is a more exclusive car than any of those manufacturers could ever build.

Thats why people in the know give such great respect to Renault for signing off the V6.

FIESTA - probably, but do you see new shape ones parked next to the big jumps at Horsey events? (I live opposite a Racecourse, so seen the Clios)

not being snobby, but the Clios is unique in its ability to appeal to a poverty stricken student (most of us have been there!)

AND an old granny

AND a Jemima Fotherington-Gore from the Horsey set who could probably have had an X5 if she pleaded with Daddy nicely enough!

FIESTA - very popular YES (prob. better seller), but truly classless and at the same time aspirational?
