July 2021 - It Happened
Well, I'm not sure what to say really. It's been emotional. It's been a rollercoaster of a ride. Oh yeah, and it's cost (lost) me a f**king fortune. But it happened - I collected #165 today and brought it home.
It's been a long old day and I'm absolutely dead on my feet, so this update won't be particularly insightful or exciting. However, I am very happy to report that #165 is mechanically sound and drives absolutely beautifully. It didn't miss a beat on the way home (a return journey that ended up taking almost 6 hours) and she was / is purring. The fact that the aircon works incredibly well was a bonus, along with the fact that I had left a USB stick and a CD in the head-unit all those years ago and I had some music to listen to all the way home. It's probably fair to say my musical tastes have changed and the less said about that the better.
So yes, it is driving beautifully but there are still many jobs that need to be done (thankfully nothing major). Lots of areas need TLC, parts refreshing, etc. It needs a deep clean inside and out as several years dumped in vegetation outside a 'specialist' workshop really hasn't done it any favours (although I confess it is in might fine condition given the circumstances). It should clean up pretty nicely. I'll list the other jobs to be done in another update soon but I want to keep this one short.
I really just want to offer my heartfelt thanks to Mick at Diamond Motors (Long Eaton) for his help - it has been his blood, sweat and tears that have brought #165 back home to me. He deserves his fantastic reputation and is an absolute legend, and a friend. Thanks Mick.
Yup, more updates will be coming soon but I just need to sleep for now as I have a hectic weekend ahead (which means #165 will have to wait until next week for her pampering to begin). I just wanted to provide this update to let folks know that it is now - FINALLY - back home.
Thanks to everyone who has followed my progress over the years. I sincerely hope the rollercoaster ride is over and look forward to providing more pleasant updates in the coming weeks, months and years. Some of you folks (you know who you are) have been fantastic - whether in terms of support, helping hands, supplying parts, playing courier, and so on and so forth. Thank you.
More soon, I promise.
p.s. I'm proper excited.
