June 2021 - Update #3

I'm genuinely excited at the thought of getting this home now. I was due to collect this in a couple of days but, unfortunately, a minor hiccup has delayed things by a week or so. It's nothing major and I'm told that it is driving beautifully (and looking pretty tidy, too). New spacers and stud/nut kit on the way... then collection time!

Massive thanks to Mick at Diamond Motors for the pic (and for putting it back together again).
Do you ever get the impression it doesn’t want to come home.... 😂🙈

What's the delay now then?

@SharkyUK - what’s the deal with this spec wise? I’ve tried keeping up with the thread but I’m due to retire in 24 years…

Standard mate - back to standard. And staying that way. Apart from the Brembo brake kit. (y)

What's the delay now then?

Wrong size spacers hence waiting for the correct ones to be made and sent over.

They forgot to re-fit those bloody awful aero catches...?! 😂

Nah, that bonnet has been sold as-is along with the AeroCatches!

Mick's got a track day booked in it, and isn't quite ready to hand it back yet?

I've suggested that he should enjoy it for a bit, and he keeps wanting to buy it...

Realised Dan actually swapped the original trophy body out for a 1.2's

Well, funny you should say that...

The mad thing is, this Trophy has probably doubled in value since you got it. Despite all the misery it’s caused you, you will have a clean mint standard trophy and that will just go up and up and up value wise but at the same time will continue to make you smile every time you find a good bit of road.

I’m excited for you! 😂

(on a slight side note, we are offering storage for cars, if you’re ever interested in storing it away for winters etc)

What sort if price do you charge mate for storage, say September to March?

Nothing yet because we haven’t got the keys. Slow ass solicitors…. 😂

but it will depend on a number of factors. If you are insuring it or want us to insure it, if you want it sat on a trickle charger, if you want it easily accessible or blocked in etc etc. but it will range from around £100-150 per month but it’s strictly storage only. No working on them and a minimum of 48h notice if you want it out.

Cheers. I’ve enquired at a few places, and now realise storage is bloody expensive!

£150 a month is cheap. Fully insured and sat on a charger.

im paying that per vehicle to store three of mine and it’s a damp, unsecure with no electric and just a complete hole of a place.

Hopefully it won't be a dissapointment when you finally get this back.

Maybe I'm a s**t petrolhead, but think I would struggle to pick up the keys when there is a GT4 available 😂

It is difficult... I regularly find myself drawn to the GT4 keys most days! :ROFLMAO: To be honest the GT4 is just too low slung and firm for some roads so it's nice to have another fun car that you can throw down the road. Or so I keep telling myself...

My missus is really looking forward to driving the Trophy as she prefers her hot-hatches to most other things. She won't even get behind the wheel of the Porsche for fear of pranging it! In fact, she really misses her Type-R so the Trophy will fill that hole nicely.

Indeed mate, it's entirely possible it has appreciated over time given the used Trophy sale pricing at the moment. I created an online Trophy Tracker type thing a while back and have been registering and watching the market for some time. Sadly, though, mine owes me far, far, FAR in excess of what I could sell it for! :ROFLMAO: Not that I plan on selling it.

You know what mate? I'm actually excited too - genuinely looking forward to getting the old girl back.

Thanks for the heads-up regarding storage, too. I shall keep it in mind (although I'm good for the time being). Thanks!

He's gonna have to sell the GT4 to pay Mick's bill!! 😂

Nah, it's all under control. I hope. I'm informed that the final bill will actually be less than 100 grand.

July 2021 - It Happened

Well, I'm not sure what to say really. It's been emotional. It's been a rollercoaster of a ride. Oh yeah, and it's cost (lost) me a f**king fortune. But it happened - I collected #165 today and brought it home.

:)

It's been a long old day and I'm absolutely dead on my feet, so this update won't be particularly insightful or exciting. However, I am very happy to report that #165 is mechanically sound and drives absolutely beautifully. It didn't miss a beat on the way home (a return journey that ended up taking almost 6 hours) and she was / is purring. The fact that the aircon works incredibly well was a bonus, along with the fact that I had left a USB stick and a CD in the head-unit all those years ago and I had some music to listen to all the way home. It's probably fair to say my musical tastes have changed and the less said about that the better.

So yes, it is driving beautifully but there are still many jobs that need to be done (thankfully nothing major). Lots of areas need TLC, parts refreshing, etc. It needs a deep clean inside and out as several years dumped in vegetation outside a 'specialist' workshop really hasn't done it any favours (although I confess it is in might fine condition given the circumstances). It should clean up pretty nicely. I'll list the other jobs to be done in another update soon but I want to keep this one short.

I really just want to offer my heartfelt thanks to Mick at Diamond Motors (Long Eaton) for his help - it has been his blood, sweat and tears that have brought #165 back home to me. He deserves his fantastic reputation and is an absolute legend, and a friend. Thanks Mick.

Yup, more updates will be coming soon but I just need to sleep for now as I have a hectic weekend ahead (which means #165 will have to wait until next week for her pampering to begin). I just wanted to provide this update to let folks know that it is now - FINALLY - back home.

Thanks to everyone who has followed my progress over the years. I sincerely hope the rollercoaster ride is over and look forward to providing more pleasant updates in the coming weeks, months and years. Some of you folks (you know who you are) have been fantastic - whether in terms of support, helping hands, supplying parts, playing courier, and so on and so forth. Thank you.

More soon, I promise.

:)

p.s. I'm proper excited.

Absolutely fantastic mate! Glad it's finally back where it belongs!

Only met Mick once, but he really is a nice chap. Credit to him for sorting it out!

Here starts a new chapter then. I hope it behaves and you have plenty of great drives in it.

And kudos to Mick for getting the job done. Shame on those of you who said "he's had it a year and it's not finished yet" and doubted his resolve! He's a diamond geezer and the Clio world is lucky to have him. 👏👏

So glad to see it finally home.

Can remember seeing it looking sorry for itself at said ‘Specalist’ in July 2015.

Hope you can once again enjoy it.

Great that it's home and running. Hopefully you can do some light tinkering and, more importantly, just enjoy driving it after everything you've been through. Must have been quite a feeling to drive it again!

Great News Andy! Chuffed to see it on the drive.
Well done and fair play to Mick for taking this on and getting it sorted for you, it can't have been easy. He's a good guy!

Enjoy the drives in it over the rest of the summer!

This has properly made my morning! Over the moon for you mate! As Ant says, it looks pretty bloody good, considering.

Fair play to Mick, it’s good to know there are still decent guys out there. Congratulations mate, enjoy it!

Glad you finally have it home mate 😁

What this thread has done without question is show up what a complete shower of s**t the so called "specialists" on this forum over the years are really like after being bummed by so many people ! 🙄🤣
