The New Phone Thread

With currently owning a £1200 handset I can safely say its hardly worth it. Think ive said before in here but the Note 20 Ultra 5G is a great device, but the battery life just severely lets it down. Yeah, super fast charging is great and all but I dont want to be tied to a socket. Its a big phone, you can do more on it, so naturally you do! But having a rubbish battery (same size as the standard S20 I believe) is a poor show from Samsung.

The Pixel stuff doesnt half seem good value for money!

My battery on S21 Ultra is pretty good.

Yep much better than any new phone battery I've have before. Obviously the battery life does deteriorate over time but out the box I am very impressed and I do use it pretty heavily at times and it still holds up.

How does the battery stack up in the real world? Seen it tested quite poorly compared to other phones but I’m a bit weary of those tests.

I was initially quite worried about the battery life on mine when I first got it, as it seemed to discharge quite quickly. But I charged it over night after a few days, and its seems much better ever since. I'm consistently getting pretty much 2 full days, albeit every now and then it'll need a bit of a top up on the second day just to last me until bedtime, if it's had heavier use.

One think to bare in mind though with that statement is that I do work from home mainly, so the phone is mostly connected to wi-fi which does help. The last few times I've checked I'm averaging a little over 3 hours screen on time. So basically I'd say I'm getting 6 to 6.5 hours screen on time, and the battery is lasting me between 38 and 42 hours before it's dead.

Also takes over a week for battery conditioning etc and AI to learn. Baring in mind one of the biggest things in a pixel and tensor is AI it is consatntly machine learning.

I'm finding it OK. Spending most of my time watching Instagram reels during teams meeting 😁

Just ordered a Pixel 6 directly from Google, they're offering free A-Series Buds until January (worth £100 iirc). Downside is my delivery date is 4-5th January but it'll hopefully be worth the wait!

Of all the videos to link Andy! 😂

Listen to the master...

Really impressive piece of tech and offering a really nice mix of a few foldables. Looks great proportion wise. The whole software kills it though, you need to start with software then build the foldable, the fold3 is offering a big screen experience, the oppo one is still blowing up standard apps. See You tube etc.

Nice choice Steve. More and more impressed by my brother in law's 6. The 6 pro is a really nice looking phone.

Will see what the s22u brings. S pen etc.

I feel like I’m the only one not wanking myself into a coma over foldables. It’s probably down to what I use my phone for I guess. It’s an innovation I’ll be passing on.

It doesn't really excite me yet, but it's nice to see companies at least experimenting again. Few years time we could have some decent offerings :) still want the one from Westworld!

Can see me getting a Pixel 6Pro next to replace my S21U, Not blown away with how the 22U looks so far and S Pen is something I'd never use anyway

Got my daughter a Samsung A12 last year they are about £130. You can get a SIM only for about £4. Pop a big SD card in it take Photos & Videos as much as want. Mostly uses for watching Youtube & video chats since she stated secondary school.

Luckily as family we are not into Smartphones and only use low end Samsung tablets. So Technology equivalent. Imagine if you were rocking the latest I Phone more difficult to swallow.

I am still happy with my Nokia 3310. Snake rocks.

I saw someone recently get their kid a non smartphone. For communication etc. Good idea.

Anyone else's S21 ultra drop from 4G to 'H+' and not go back to 4G unless they restart phone?
Mine seems to be doing it quite often now and it's annoying me.
On Vodafone for reference

Yeah mine does this sometimes, Wouldn't even connect to any mobile data as well last week but a reset of everything and clear the cache seems to have sorted it.

My S21 Ultra is buggy, ever since the update.

I read the fault was carrier issues with an update Vs modem. Especially Samsung. Hence the pixel having an issue also as they use Sammy modem. Should be fixed quickly. My missus is mostly on WiFi but no issues here so far. Camera is still mental during my use.

Talking of cameras. My Note 10+ is 2 and a half years old. Still smashing pictures out the park. Straight off the primary no edits.

Ah that explains it then, surprised there hadn't been any updates pushed since the last one over 2 weeks ago to sort it

My contract is up now, currently have a OnePlus 8T.. what's decent out there? I'm mainly on WiFi so only need circa 10gb data if that.

Generally use my phone for browsing the internet and WhatsApp with the occasional photograph

New one plus 10 pro is coming or a cheap 9pro even though it's average!

8T was actually a really good phone. The 9 range has become meh. The fact you are android and have had a one plus. The world is your oyster.

I highly recommend the s21 ultra but it's more a camera champ so if you don't need photos to be perfect you really have everything to choose from.

Just got a Pixel 6 Pro to replace my old 4 XL.

Very impressed so far, though the case won't arrive for another day and the phone is so slick it slides off anything but the absolute flattest surface thanks to the camera bar tilting it. Not sure it's going to last the next 24hrs without ending up smashed on a tile floor somewhere...

Out if interest, does your brand new Pixel rattle?

Mine and the Wife's Pixel 6 Pro's developed a rattle noise from the camera after a week or two (when I noticed anyway). Googling seems to suggest it's normal and everything works as it should still. But doesn't seem right.

My 6 also rattles, honestly hadn't noticed it until I read your post above and gave it a shake. Can't see why it would be a problem unless extreme stealthy use of said phone was a requirement.
