It really is a massive step back from the previous models. I held one in a shop a while back (before the last lockdown?) and it just felt cheap.
Even the camera isn't as good as some of its competitors now when that used to be the selling point. See what the 6 brings but I'm not holding out too much hope.

He went from a 3/4 year old flagship phone to Google's newest offering. Most people won't research that much into it but you'd assume that Google would have brought something better to the table. I mean most general walking into shops looking for an upgrade people.... Not James though.

The only thing about buying a 40 pro is the absolute ballache of not having the apps you need, the workaround doesn't work on a lot of them still.

I've been a big fan of Nexus/Google phones over the past few years, and just stupidly assumed the pixels were of similar ilk.
Think I was spoilt by the P20!

Nah. You've assumed like many that Google would have stepped it up. Sadly it's not the case.

I don't think you understand the market it's in. They are exactly where they should be. Especially with the A series. The 6 will improve on the 5 and become one of the best mid range phones you can buy.

I must admit I'm 2 months into ownership of the S21 ultra and I still miss my mate 20 Pro.

Yes the cameras brilliant on this but I can't really tell much difference with other things, battery's a bit better but it wasn't terrible on the Huawei anyway. Screen was good on the Huawei too but again this is better, but is it WAY better, I don't think so.
The size of this also annoys me too, its heavy, my little finger supports the base of the phone during use and it actually aches if I've been browsing Internet or playing a portrait game for a while.

It's a shame Huawei aren't involved with android like they once was as they do make good phones

I don't think you understand the market it's in. They are exactly where they should be. Especially with the A series. The 6 will improve on the 5 and become one of the best mid range phones you can buy.

When the pixel 2xl came out it pissed all over petty much everything else. It never was a mid range phone. That's what I'm saying Google should be now. I know the 5 is a mid range phone now. It shouldn't be for the amount they bring out each year.

I'm a long-time Nexus / Pixel user too (currently on a 4XL), not least because they've traditionally been pretty much flagship camera with a really plain uncluttered Android install.

I appreciate that the 5 is more mid-range but I still really want a proper flagship 6 that Google use as a showcase rather than something plain and middle of the pack again.

Had a look at the S21 and S21 ultra. The S21 Ultra is ridiculously heavy and the S21 seems marginally better than my S10+.
I want to stay with EE for free BT Sport but I think I'd rather have the Oneplus9Pro.

Oppo have a good range but research is key! I assume Xiaomi have play store okay in the UK? I think they had a great range. The mi 11 and lite are a great choice.

The new s21fe should be out soon. That will again take up the top spot of that price range.

The upper mid range just now is an epic market! 120hz screens smoked. Big battery. All the specs for under flagship.

It's an impressive phone. Apart from the rear of the s21U it's my favourite. Can't believe people don't like it!

It's always a risk though, great specs etc. Not sure I could own a phone yet with rarer back up from my reading. Probably be fine and no worse than Samsung!

Too many to choose from in that range but I couldn't buy one if an s21U was the same price.

Are you needing android @riz ? The 12 pro max and pro are epic phones as most will tell you.

I'm not sure, I was an Apple fan boy and still love my Mac and iPad. Maybe I should just go back.

Can you minimise a video on an iPhone and still use the phone. I do that quite alot with YouTube and Netflix at work.

I couldn't ever spend my own money on iOS. I've got an 11 for work and it's awful. The camera, bar having the wide angle, is no better than my laggy Pixel 2xl and even the wide angle shots are poor. The keyboard never works properly. The only thing it's good for is tagging @Ol’ Tarby! - actualy, f**k that, just hold the ' on the Gboard and you've got it. At least they have just got picture in picture. Go Apple.

Been playing around with family members iPhones. I I've the camera and the gallery. I'm sure I would get used to iOS but I think I prefer Android.

From what I can see S21u has a better processor and a better zoom. It just weighs quite a bit and it isn't as comfortabke to hold, sometimes I have to put it in my cycling jersey and not sure I would be comfortable with it like that.

Note 20u is a bit of a beast also. My phone the note 10+ 5g is the last "light" phone! I'm due a change soon but I really want a fold with an s pen silo. Life complete.
