You running a 240mm rad right? Usually it will come with 8 long screws and 8 short screws. The long ones can either just attach fans, or go through the case and fan as well to mount the radiator (sandwiching the fans between the radiator and case). The short ones are just to mount the radiator to the case if you have your fans on the other side.

If it's fouling on the heatsink you can try putting the fans on the bottom of the radiator instead of on top, that might give you more clearance. Or mount the radiator at the front of your case and use it as an intake, like this.

Anyway, take a photo of your rig and post it so it's clearer what the issue is 👍🏻

I have had a really annoying fan or some kind of resonance since I built the pc tbh, but it's getting really annoying now. I was going to swap the fans to daisy chain ones, but I don't think you can control each individual fan speed when they are linked. I think my problem comes from running all the fans at the same speed. I recommend watching this video, I'm going to give it a try later and see if that sorts it.

I’ve recently ditched my 240mm AIO in favour of a Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 (can’t stand the stupid names).

£30 air cooler is doing the exact same job, only with no pump noise. Excellent.

This is how it is currently configured. You can see my tape bodge fix in the top left corner to stop the rad sagging. Stuplid

I've tried moving the screws that hold the filter from the outside places to inside to match the Rad but they aren't long enough.

and you can sort of see it fouling the mother board here. (and yeah I might of scratched it a little but it only shows under the camera).

It can cause noise with the tubes at the top, there's always a little bit of air in the system so putting the tubes at the bottom reduces the risk of gurgling sounds. Neither are going to impact performance though, and both are better than having the pump at the top of the loop because that kills pumps.

Thermalright stuff is awesome, normally way cheaper than the competition too.

I would definitely recommend watching that video. I had a bit of a nightmare when I plugged my fans into the motherboard, the motherboard decided it didn't want to detect them (they worked, but showed 0 rpm). After going down a rabbit hole investigating, it turned out I didn't know how a fan splitter worked. I didn't realise one was a 4pin master and the other 2 were 3 pins slaves... As soon as I plugged one of the fans into the master I could then see and control rpm 🤦‍♂️ Now that they have been tuned better using the principles of the guide, that really annoying resonance has gone. The whole system is just quieter in general and even stress testing the CPU with Cinebench it didn't see over 60 degrees.

TLDR version is dont stuff all your fans on one header, use all the MB headers you can and set different speeds on a per fan basis.

I’ve been using Fan Control for a while now, it can control individual speeds of fans and pumps for water cooling.

It also lets you create a profile to link the fan speeds when one component starts to heat up more than the other. This is very helpful to keep air moving as everything is working together at the right moment.

I always said to my nephew when he turns 12 I'll build him a PC and pay for it. Time bloody flies because that is now only a few weeks away! I did my build last year so just getting up to speed with the latest etc. I've always been team blue however there's no denying the fact how good team red are bang for buck, so I'm thinking of going down that route.

Budget is £1k all in for the PC. The peripherals and monitor other family members are getting for him.

Any suggestions/recommendations on the below? I'm not that familiar with AMD stuff. Monitor will likely be 1440p.

Looks decent... although I would probably just get a single NVME solid state drive. No real need to have one separate for the OS unless you have a very specific work need. I'm assuming it will be for gaming and entertainment, of course!

I would say try to go AM5 but I don’t know how achievable that is within your budget.

A normal 7600 will outperform the 5600X though.

If I were you I'd give up top mounting it and stick it in the front of the case instead, while you've still got some fins left 🤣

I got a few screws in but the angle puts the last ones way off as can be seen. So it is fixed solid at the top.

It is powered on, not leaking so will that be OK now and just ignore the few missing fins? Not likely to fail?

Not sure how I would go about front mounting it. There is no obvious way I can see to fix it to the case? Needs to be screwed from the outside but no way to do that?

Just buy an air cooled one?

It'll be reet, you've only bent some fins.

Mounting in the front is the same as mounting at the top of the case, you'd attach it from the outside. Screws should go through the case, through the fans, and into the rad. You'd use the same holes that the current intake fans are using, obviously you'd remove them first.

What model cooler and what model case do you have again? You aren't doing something daft like trying to fit a 280mm rad in a space designed for a 240mm are you?

Yeah I can't see any reason why it wouldn't fit. f**k it, as long as it hasn't fallen off so far I'd say just leave it as is. It's not like you're going to be bouncing the case around 🤷‍♂️

Anyone selling any GPUs at the moment? I've got my finger over the buy now button on a second hand 3080 12Gb but thought I'd check here and see of there's anything better around. Ideally Nvidia because I'm a brand whore 😎

Tbf, my NXZT fan controller was a revelation in terms of fan control. I was also getting a bit frustrated in running fan cables up and around and behind the mobo - just to connect into a header that was in some far flung corner.

Granted, having to have a PSU cable with a SATA connection just to power the controller is a bit of a faff - but I really can't fault it. I was actually looking at a Lian-Li controller for a build I did a few weeks back. They offer three connectable fans and the controller for £89.99 from Overclockers.

The case the build is in, is rather nice. Wouldn't mind that myself!

I have the case 😂

The problem wasn't that I didn't have fan control, I was able to set the speeds. The problem was that I had grouped 6 fans into two sets of three then connected to one header. The fans running at the same speed was causing resonance in the case and really annoying.

To resolve it, I connected as many fans as possible to individual headers and then had slight variations in the speed and it's managed to sort 99% of it.
