The worm has turned - my view on the 197 Cup

After the p1ss-poor Reno marketing shots of the 197 Cup which in my mind resembled an 898cc Korean shed trying desperately to look like it would reach 60mph before Easter - my views are starting to change. ;)

I picked up the first issue of Performance Car magazine yesterday, complete with said 197 Cup plastered all over the front cover. It looks awesome - and even better on the extra shots in the article itself.

The finishing touch is definitely the optional spoiler on the tail-gate. Far from looking chavvy, it suits the profile of the car perfectly - even if the carbon effect is simply that - an effect.

If nothing else, the article has made me look at the 197 in a different light. No longer does it resemble the hippo of the RS range, complete with stilts - but it genuinely looks an appealing car.

  RB 200 Cup!
i must admit when the 197 first came out i thought ergh then when i saw em in the flesh i thought wow!

i would love one now

Got to agree, when I first saw the 197 really didn't like it at all! Having seen a few up close and played with some of the toys on them have to agree I really like them!

I'll have a look at my free copy of PCM when I get it ;)

I think if they get a decent circulation of the magazine going, it will certainly give Evo mag a run for its money. Good articles and some great photography in there. Even Yozzasport has their advert slap bang on the page after the 197 Cup review. Nice move, lads. :D

  LY V6 with Recaros
I do love the look of them now, the R27 and cup especially, and I didn't like the 197 at all when they first come out.

No, I didn't like them at first either, but I do now. The LY R27 I saw at the Krispy Kremes meet was absolutely stunning.

Also, the white one I saw looked SO much better in the metal than in pictures..which is why I KNOW I'll totally fall for the white R26.

I definitely find the R27 and the Cup more appealing....but then they appeal to a more hardcore, more patient (as in they were prepared to wait for the inevitable improved 197) Clio Sport driver.

Still wouldn't have one though....

See the haters are turning. They are the future ;)

Yes Gaz After driving and be driven in a fair few 197's prior to purchasing the cup, I realised the potential of the car immedietly. I took the plunge and went for the improved cup, which is the best car I have owned to date. It's nice to see the h197 haters actually appreciating the car for what it is, in fact its's nice to see magazines giving the 197 the coverage it so deserves.

Yeh, I was thinking of just running to local shops in my old runabout ('92 1.4 RT) this morning - But now I think I'll take the R27 and take a longer, more scenic (if you can get scenic in Portsmouth) route.
