Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41

Brilliant price on the dampers if that's what they're charging.

I'm torn on the wheels mate, The colour suits the red but I'm not sure that it suits the turninis, if that makes sense?

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41

Even at £1.50 + Vat per inch is still £115!

Guess I would just need to find someone to remove the tyres for cheap, and fit them again. I've had tyres fitted and balanced for £40 before, didn't really want to pay that twice though!

Plus, I need a spare set of wheels, or someone to drop them off for me.

I guess that's why TWS charge so much, convenience.

Yep, like anything.

BG charge more for the dampers, but turn around is very quick, cornering force aren't that quick but you pay a lot less.

Makes sense! My thoughts exactly. You never know what looks good until you try it though :) thinking of getting them a touch darker, but the same colour as standard when I go for powdercoating. Back tyres are on their last legs so I think I'll combine it with a tyre change to save messing around later on.

I've called Cornering Force regarding the dampers, he's had them nearly a month now. He was apologetic and said he is still waiting on some seals then it's job done. He's chasing it up (again) and said he'll hopefully be able to give me an ETA by tomorrow.

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41

Cheers Lee! It's definitely a grower, however it won't be staying for too long.

Bit of an update, I bought some BMW 1-Series bonnet struts to use as my boot struts as mine were literally useless. You had to lift the tailgate right up and push it to the very top, and even then there was a chance it would fall on your head when loading the boot.

8054082836_9b8e5ed825_b.jpg

The BMW one is on the left. Notice the metal 'pin-type' connector rather than the 'push-type' on the standard one. At first I found this difficult to fit so got on the blower to SGS Engineering who I bought them from, luckily they helped me out and they went on with a little bit of force. They lift the boot well but you do have to give it a little help at the very top, but the main thing is they actually hold it there now! I can live without fear of being knocked out by my own car, ace.

Nice amount of space between the spoiler and aerial, near enough standard but £36 for 2 instead of the £200+ that Renault charge.

Do you have the website for the boot struts? I'm in need of some because I shortened my standard ones when I fitted the trophy spoiler to my cup.

I know it's a no-no on Trophy's, but have you thought about silver Jamie? I had some silver dynamique wheels on mine for a bit when I sold the Turinis and the colour looked brilliant against the red!

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41

Not thought about that but I bet that would look awesome. I'll do a Photoshop and see how it looks, would look good against the bullets and Renault diamonds I reckon!

The thing I liked most about the standard colour was that they only looked dirty when you cleaned them and missed a bit. </lazy>

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41

I've always thought about doing mine high power silver, but I have a fear that people will think I've got cup/pauper wheels on :(

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41

Not had chance to do a Photoshop yet but it's something I'd consider, just to be different if nothing else. I agree with Jon though, they will look poverty spec though, we'll have to see.

Bit of an update, got some Eibach Sportline springs cheap off here. I've only fitted the rears at the moment as it's already on Prolines as standard at the front as far as I know? So it handles well anyway. Standard 182 springs at the rear are pap. I'll be fitting the front Sportlines when I get the dampers back from being refurbed, so hopefully pretty soon.

They haven't overly changed the height, but they have noticably brought it down, getting rid of the 'nose-down' stance and reducing the rear arch gap to a more acceptable one. The handling however, is unreal! I can't believe how much it's changed since just fitting these. As soon as I pulled off my driveway I could tell that the rear just felt a lot more planted, and chucking it around a few roundabouts had me giggling like a little girl. Seriously impressed and I can't wait to get the Sachs back on the front.

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41

Love the Turini's pal. I was toying with the idea of doing something similar when I had 4 refurbed a few months ago. But wussed out!

The sportlines are lovely. I really like mine and reducing the arch gap at the back a tad is of added benefit to the looks for sure.

Yup, agree

They have a lot of rake as standard for a reason....

Cheers :) and yep, win win with the Sportlines. :)

You like my new ones hahahah

I do hope they are temporary!

Sportlines will be going on the front as well when I get my Sachs back, so it'll still sit nose-down like standard. Just lower.

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41

Quite ;ike the bronze wheels nice to see something a bit different, good luck with this one.

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41

Cheers Dom :)

Bit of an update; I've been told I'll have the Sachs back, fully rebuilt by next week. He's been waiting quite a while on the seals which is why it took so long but they're on their way and almost ready. Simon at Cornering Force offered me a shot-blasting and powdercoating service too, which I had to refuse as I need the dampers back ASAP. I've just bought a tin of silver Hammerite so will give it a lick of that and see how they come up. Then, I can fit the Sportlines to them and get it all fitted again. I've still not really had chance to push the Trophy to it's full limit with regards to cornering, so I'm properly looking forward to getting these back and everything sorted. I've also got a bit of a 'test-run' for them in the pipeline - watch this space ;)

The other day I set about fitting these;

However, I only managed to change the thermostat after battling with the pinch bolts on the ball joints for a good 3 hours. They just won't shift :dapprove: I'm hoping to get them done over the weekend with the help of a mate, if not they'll be getting done at a garage. Disappointed as it's still knocking it's tits off but once they're on it'll be as right as rain the tracking done.

Also, as I seem to be on a spending spree recently, I knocked together a couple of Photoshops as I thought the back end looked a bit plain. The standard lights are on now, I just used this picture as a base.

I know the 200 badge is a s**t PS, but the 197 one looks brilliant so I've ordered one of those along with a few other bits and pieces.

Also, my 'ring sticker is hidden away at the bottom of the tailgate (it was only temporary anyway), so I've messed around in Photoshop and decided on this (with the small black one removed);

8077833301_63b8216d30_b.jpg

I don't want the rear end looking too cluttered and think this is the best place for it. If anyone has any other ideas then feel free to post them :)

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41

Too plain for my liking! Plus some idiot keyed the bit on the left so need something to cover the remaining marks. :dapprove:

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41

Does seem a bit hit or miss. Most people who see it in person think it looks better than on the pictures and I'd be inclined to agree :)

Got a couple of jobs done today. Received a package from West's Renault with a few bits I'd ordered which came properly quickly, so thanks for that!

Firstly was a new rear numberplate light. The bulb had gone and I was speaking to Jon.G who said it's a good idea to get a new full unit as they're pretty cheap and it makes the rear end look cleaner. As you can see from the comparison shots, it was well worth the £7ish I paid :)

8079619780_1c70bf70b5_b.jpg

Impressed with that!

Secondly was these ball joints again. Tried them the other day and the pinch nut just would not budge so I got pissed off with it and left it. This time I recruited my mate Liam (who helps me out no end when stuff goes tits up with my motors - cheers lad!) who managed to get it done in about half an hour by taking the discs and calipers off to get more room to give it a good smack. Helps out that he's got loads of crazy tools that I haven't got too.

8082741554_bec78c8bfa_b.jpg

No pictures of them fitted as I was helping out but hopefully they've done the trick. Not took it out yet so will report back when I have :)

Finally I got round to replacing the VVT seal which was leaking oil slightly onto my rocker cover. Fred noticed it when he was changing my cambelt (almost a year ago ) but I'd just never got round to it. So took it all apart just for one little seal (typical Renault), replaced it and gave it a bit of a clean and hopefully that should have stopped the small leak.

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41

Fairly simple job, unplug everything you need to take the inlets off, 1 bolt holding the VVT solenoid in place, pull it out (watch where you place it as it's full of oil and will be going back into your engine), prise the seal out with a flathead screwdriver and replace with the new one. I found hitting a large socket placed on top of the new seal made it easier to get it in and evenly all round. I'd say a 20 minute job tops :)

If anyone wants the part number as it was a bit of a pain to find, it's 7700106385 - £7.67.

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41

The number plate light makes everything look much better!

I've got a couple of old mankey ones, water just sits in them and the start to grow crap.

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41

Big update! Had a call from Cornering Force last week telling me the dampers were ready. I was originally going to get them posted, however I was already out and bored on my day off so went and picked them up. They were absolutely tip top, he showed me the old oil (manky s**t) and the dyno graphs of each damper which are both performing as they should be. I didn't fit them straight away as I wanted to spruce them up a bit, so ordered a tin of Hammerite and got to work.

Final pic of it on Cup suspension:

Since buying it in November 2011, I've never actually had chance to push it on the Sachs dampers because when I first got it I wasn't confident, and when I became confident the dampers gave up. Wow what a difference to the Cup setup! I set the damping to 22 clicks which is Renault factory standard and it's as stiff as anything... absolutely zero body roll. Feels quite peculiar actually. I've softened it a touch as it didn't feel stable at higher speeds on the motorway due to the lack of body roll. I've not had chance to test it yet but it's really easy to adjust the damping, just jack the car up and turn the click wheel.

After leaving it whilst at work one day, I got back to find this:

8106596273_c44bd3d0a9_b.jpg

Tbh, they were low on tread when I got the car last year and still had a bit left on. The side walls were kind of old so I reckon that's why it went flat, because when I pumped it up again and left it overnight, it did the same again. Managed to find some Pirelli Pzero Nero for sale at a very good price... one problem though, they were in Macclesfield! An hour away from me. Pumped the dodgy tyre up and managed to get it there problem free. I'd already had 2 Pzero Nero fitted here last year some time on the front, so all the tyres are matching now. Took the opportunity to get the tracking sorted too... I was told the wheels were toeing out by 6 degrees  probably due to replacing the dampers and ball joints etc, so it's been set up to factory settings now. Feels like a new car!

Whilst the dampers were being done, I had gone on a bit of a buying spree :dapprove:

Bosch Aeroblades to replace the s**tty 'wiperblades.co.uk' ones:

8106578592_c2675fc2c8_b.jpg

Clear the screen much better and are silent too.

Fitted a new rear blade, however it doesn't seem to want to bend around the screen! Bit awkward really as I binned the old one. Oh well:

8106568893_cd313e2664_b.jpg

I also got a genuine thermostat too, as the GSF one I fitted seems to be playing up slightly first thing in the mornings.

8106603858_048d64d1fc_b.jpg

Bought a 16 SMD interior light but didn't like it, so now I have a stupidly bright glovebox light! Does the trick :approve:

8106596734_4c0636a7fc_b.jpg

...and last but not least - brand new 182 Xenons. Mine are a bit hazy and also the 172 black insert ones, so thought this would freshen the look up.

8106579419_9baae02b18_b.jpg

The thermostat and Xenons haven't been fitted yet as I'm taking it around Europe (again) this weekend. Nurburgring on Sunday :D so that should be fun.

When I arrive back, it'll be getting a full detail and the Xenons will be fitted, and hopefully it'll be like a new car again.

As she stands today (low!)

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - update - SACHS are back!

Top job. I don't have to jack mine up to turn the dial on the SACHS. Because arch gap.

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - update - SACHS are back!

awesome update!! can i ask i have bought sachs dampers and will be sending mine off for a refurb very soon but i don;t have the rubber that protects the piston/seals from dirt/muck any chance you know where i can get them from? is the difference from cup dampers to sachs that massive? im hoping so of course ;)

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - update - SACHS are back!

Use your old ones off your Cup dampers. Yes it's massive ;)

Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - update - SACHS are back!

They won't fit! The piston rods are thicker on the SACHS compared to the cup suspension. I think i know where you can get them from but I'll have to check.

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - update - SACHS are back!

Jamie, I had the same issue with my GSF thermostat, it just started playing funny buggers all of a sudden, a new Renault one fixed it. Interesting to see I'm not the only one to have problems with the GSF item.

Also, you should have mentioned you needed the tyres picking up, I work in Macclesfield and I could've picked them up for you and brought them over to you.

Some good updates though, the ride height is perfect.

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - update - SACHS are back!

I thought you might have even looked like Jesus for second there lol.

I found 22 clicks way to hard for every day use, I have the Koni's and Mark Fish Springs and he recommended 15 clicks pal and half a turn on the rear Koni's.

P.S Where did you get the decent wipet blades from?
