Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - UPDATED - KONIs fitted...

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - update - SACHS are back!

Jamie, I had the same issue with my GSF thermostat, it just started playing funny buggers all of a sudden, a new Renault one fixed it. Interesting to see I'm not the only one to have problems with the GSF item.

Also, you should have mentioned you needed the tyres picking up, I work in Macclesfield and I could've picked them up for you and brought them over to you.

Some good updates though, the ride height is perfect.
Hopefully it'll do the trick. I've had one from GSF before on my 172 and it was fine, however you can't beat genuine Renault (only the prices!). I had to get the tyres fitted too so was best I went there and got it all looked at, I needed a spare wheel ideally to get there though but the stupid cars don't come with one :dapprove:

I thought you might have even looked like Jesus for second there lol.

I found 22 clicks way to hard for every day use, I have the Koni's and Mark Fish Springs and he recommended 15 clicks pal and half a turn on the rear Koni's.

P.S Where did you get the decent wipet blades from?
That's not me! It's my mate whose house I was at. I got the Bosch blades off eBay, £16.

Regained, however Jesus Christ super star has just lost his.....GOLD wheels! WTF lol
Ahem, bronze...

I really really like the bronze. If I had a spare set of 2118s or Turinis they would be the same colour!

They won't fit! The piston rods are thicker on the SACHS compared to the cup suspension. I think i know where you can get them from but I'll have to check.

When I spoke to BG and Renault last year they had no idea about the gaitor. If you know where to get them you're my new hero xD

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - update - SACHS are back!

I'll do some digging. I'm sure I noted a part number one of the times I rebuilt mine.

i asked west renault on here, and he said he couldn't get them. due to them only coming with the dampers from new :dapprove: last thing i want is to get mine refurbed only for the seals to be open for a raping from dirt etc.

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - update - SACHS are back!

Ahhh. There will be PLENTY of other companies that sell them, just have make sure you get the correct gaiter length and piston rod width.

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - UPDATE - steering wheel retrimmed

Quite a lot has changed recently!

Firstly, I took it around Europe and Nurburgring last weekend. There's a link to the thread here which contains quite a few pictures: www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?667956-Trophy-41-Nurburgring-Europe-Trip-(Very-Pic-Heavy!)

Sachs are mental! Seriously impressive handling especially on the track. Not a bad test run for newly refurbed dampers :)

Next, I had my steering wheel retrimmed in colours/a style of my choice. Brilliant job to replace my old melted wheel which felt horrible to use, thumb grips were torn and the leather was awful.

Sent that off and was rolling around with this little setup for a while. Note: ph1 wheel won't fit the squib connectors through the hole!

Luckily I had my own retrimmed wheel back within a couple of days and fitted it straight away.

Most of the info is here if you haven't seen it already: http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?668329-Steering-Wheel-Re-trimmed

Another update: after the Nurburgring/Europe trip she was in need of a bit of TLC.

So, I spent one of my days off with a mate helping prepare it for the coming winter months.

Stuff used:

No pictures of the Collonite as I was too busy trying to buff it out (hard work! :dapprove:)

Inside of the windscreen had never been cleaned, or so it seemed! The cloth was black afterwards

8154680784_2cd2a765c7_b.jpg

Also, I found some of this hidden away in my bedroom to apply over the wax. So I thought 'why not?'

Managed to get rid of some of the s**t from behind the rear numberplate too with tar remover

Cleaned the wheels with Bilberry and a small wheel brush and used Autosol on the (almost black) tailpipes, seemed to do the trick! (decent pics in a moment)

Paint looks swell but i'd be concerned at what damage you just did with that clay bar. I was a bit shocked to see the colour of it!

Don't start! It's been a PITA ever since I got it. See first post for how it looked when I got the car! It's because the cat to centre section join is fucked, I'll get a sleeve put on at some point then it'll stay reet.

Damage?! It's 3M  tbh I've never seen a blue one either. Can't be that bad though?

Looks very nice. You seem to have been spending some monies on the Trophy recently.

Do me a favour and get genuine carbon dash trims and steering wheel inserts. Please!!!!

Incase anyone is interested the steering wheel feels sexual.

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - UPDATE - winter prep detail

Christmas is coming Rhys :) although I'm disappointed you've revealed what you're getting me.

The guy who fitted my tyres commented on that too, 'there's been a bit of money spent on this recently hasn't there?!'. You know it's bad when that happens!

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - UPDATE - winter prep detail

Like this a lot mate, the steering wheel looks mint, must get mine done eventually.

Glad you got the ball joints sorted too, my pinch bolts only came out with the discs off as well, made all the difference being able to swing the hammer that much further.

Yep they were a bugger but sometimes it's easier to spend more time preparing for the job than struggling when you come to do it. Get the s**t out of the way and it's much easier.

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - UPDATE - winter prep detail

Bit of an update! I bought some brand new grey insert Xenons a few weeks ago (the day I picked up my dampers actually) and hadn't got round to fitting them. I got them on last week and what an improvement! The pictures don't capture it well (shitty iPhone) but they make the front end look much neater than when the black insert 172 Xenons were on.

I'll post some better pictures when the Mrs has the decent camera out again. I waxed them today with some Collonite 476s to protect them from hazing/sun damage so hopefully they'll look this good throughout my ownership.

As well as this, I've had the 197 style Renaultsport badge just sitting in my bedroom for a while so thought it was about time to fit it. After someone keyed my Nurburgring sticker, I've not been able to get rid of the white scratch mark so thought this would cover it nicely.

I didn't want it too high/low on the tailgate as I guessed on my last Clio and it ended up way too high compared to the Clio badge! Used a bit of 3M detailing tape to help me.

Then today I removed the black one and the 'Nurburgring' lettering from the silver one so here it is as it stands today:

Pleased with the rear end now, as long as it stays like this and no idiots decide to vandalise it then it's pretty much staying as it is now.

Bigger update may be coming at the weekend...

Update: I've decided to get rid of the Yozzasport that came on the car to replace it with something quieter. I've always liked the sound of a Milltek and didn't like any of the other 'quieter' systems so it made sense really :) managed to get one for a very good price brand new after a bit of haggling, chuffed with the result tbh.

Due to me being properly impatient, the Yozza came straight off:

I bought a Milltek decat too but at the moment I've left the Scorpion one on to see what it's like. It's still pretty quiet to say it's a decatted system, but I suppose that comes with having 2 backboxes and a centre silencer. Chuffed to bits tbh, exactly what I wanted :approve:

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - UPDATE - Yozzasport has gone...

I <3 Milteks, however the new btm exhaust is better than the miltek and the old yozza IMO for flow and sound.

Can i ask why have you dropped the rear axle and removed the exhaust in one piece? They have a flange coupling the centre and backbox together, surely that would've been easier than taking the bumper off etc.

Only criticism's would be that lutecia badge looks crap and I'm not a fan of the gold wheels, may have looked better if the car was decked but...its not lol

I loved the sound of the Decatted Miltek I had on my Trophy but it was just a but to loud for me.

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - UPDATE - Yozzasport has gone...

This one is really quiet, not sure why! It's still got the centre silencer in, did yours? I know removing it makes it more raspy and a touch louder, but I bought this for the quietness and it's spot on :approve:

I dropped the rear axle to remove the Yozza because the flange was in a really awkward place and I couldn't be bothered unscrewing it whilst in place. It was going dark!

Yeah mine still had the centre silencer in. It was really raspy with the decat too.

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - UPDATE - Yozzasport has gone...

Mine's not, just a really deep note. Maybe it needs running in, being a brand new system?

Re: Third Time Lucky; Trophy #41 - UPDATE - Yozzasport has gone...

I uploaded one video to Facebook after I fitted it, I'll get some better ones after it's bedded in as I think it's going to get louder once it fills up with s**t!
