Tips for fitting AWT inlets ?

Me again Lol :) I am away to order Awt Inlet Manifolds in the next few weeks for my 172FF. I was wandering if there are any problems i may encounter when trying to fit them ? How hard it it to remove the standard ones and fit these ? As i've haerd there is a bolt/nut down by the alternator thats a b**ch to get to. If this is true, how did people get around it ?

Yes there is lol, follow the guide thats in the guide section, but what it doesnt say is there is a bolt on the left hand side above the Aux pulley that needs to be removed & its still tight as fook, & there is a bolt that goes through the Alternator brace & it pinches the lower inlet in place, best bet is to file the raised part off the new one, thats what i did, you will understand when you do it, also before unbolting the lower half make sure you clean all the grit/sand off as it will all fall into the inlet valves :dead: .. think its just outta step for a DIY mechanic, its a little fucker of a job lol..

Just take your time & think twice about what your doing & should come off with out any major probs ;)

swapped mine over with daz - was a pain to do - took couple hours but we did it in the end

i bought a shallow socket for the bolt on the side. pull the area clear of anything (there's a few wires and some soundproofing material there) and it comes out nice and easy.

Dropping the aux belt off the crank pulley so theres no tension on it would be a lot easier by the sounds of it.

Any chance i could have useof this tool Al ?

When i buy the inlets ?

Bmh,
I'd take off the aux belt to do it but it has only been replaced about 5k miles ago and i don't want to disturb it :(

Belts on their own aren't very expensive and it'll probably be fine if its a new one, I know your not supposed to retension them. Had to drop mine off my old 1.6 a few weeks after i'd done the aux/cam belt as I managed to pinch the a/c compressor wiring under the alternator , put it back on and it was fine for another 7k before I got rid of it.

f**k taking the belt off sounds easier than done.

The Full Fats belt set up looks aright f**k about, and theres very little space :(

Its looks a job that'll be a lot of cursing and swearing. :dapprove:

If i bought a new belt how do i release the tensioner etc etc to get the old one off and the new one on ?

And are there no other ways of fitting the inlets without taking it off ?

I'm sure you can get around it with the belt still on but I wouldn't want to be cutting anything off the inlets personally. The belt is fiddly yes if you wanted to change it but not too bad to drop it off the crank pulley, you need a special tool to get the tension off the belt costs about a tenner.

Depends what you want to do, I wouldn't want to be sliding the lower inlet in with the gasket like that personally.

I think i'll give the belt removal a miss and try and fit them.

As i don't have the special tool for the tension etc etc.

You wont need to take the belt off, i didnt, just remove the fabric cover next to it! If you dont put the Aux belt back on right or it comes loose theres a good chance it will take the cambelt out = Not cheap fix, just get a shallow socket & walla, away you go :)

This is always the case when ever i work on clio's lol, just not built for people with hands that are bigger than a 5 year olds lol

I just whacked mine on the grinder. Whack a bit of chamfer on there & it's easy.
