Toastfrenzy's Tin Top, some say...........

Fingers crossed for Rockingham Pete.

Cycling looks like good effort, cool log app - which one is that?

It's Sports-Tracker , apart from flash on their site it's a really good app - wasn't much choice (for windows phone) about 3.5 years ago when I started cycling. I've had Nokia phones from the start, never strayed far for nearly 20 years of mobile ownership and have had Nokia Windows phones for 4 years. Like them so much I bought the Nokia Tablet too. My choices go down well at work...not.

Let us know how you get on mate.

Will do Sonny, be vid's etc after. Hope all goes well at Donington.

Been a busy week, came over all strange on Saturday and went for a cycle ride at 05:30 did 28 miles in 1hr 35mins, have a look at the route here. Then started on getting the Cup ready for this weekends Rockingham excursion, took longer than expected as had a few niggles to sort - one being the head light flash button. Every time the steering wheel was turned the lights flashed. Didn't take long to find the short and remedy. All spanner checked and fuilds\fuel topped up and washed.

Sunday sorted out the trailer, pressures (for once they were all the same as I left them, strange) and lights, broke a rear cluster a while ago and kept putting off replacing it.

Monday, went to Whilton Mill kart track, a really good track - realised I haven't got the patience to drive karts good. Qualified 8th out of 25 and was last on the first lap and finished 13th after 30 laps. Will be going back on 6th July to take Harry and Scarlett for a blast with instruction too.

Tuesday, Mum fell over - broke her arm and had to have 7 stitches in a cut on her head. Was remarkably calm throughout and didn't want any fuss. Step to front door now being replaced with a slope - got bad arthritis in all joints so anything other than a flat surface is a bit of a challenge.

Wednesday - Sam and I went to Silverstone for some driver training. Bit of a result for me as I got paired with Josh Cook the current Clio Cup Championship leader #66. What can I say - Great day !!! Can't remember who Sam was paired with but both had a really good day and the transformation from the start of the day to the end was nothing short off fantastic.

Can't wait for Rockingham on Saturday now.

Sorry to hear about your Mum Pete.

Sounded like you had a good day at Silverstone, what layout was it? Are you racing at Silverstone next with us?

Was on the National layout - going to wait until Saturday is over with before committing to any further dates, would like to do Silverstone but going on holiday early doors on the 10th August so will have to see.

Sounds like an eventful week to say the least Pete, have a good day at Rockingham.
Russ

Thanks Russ, watched your Donington videos earlier - good effort.

Ouch - best wishes to your mum and I hope she gets well soon.

Silverstone sounded a lot of fun, especially being paired with the Cookmeister. I'm tempted to get some tuition / training this year. I have no intention of racing but being able to drive better and get more from trackdays is very appealing.

Successful day at the Rock, that's hopefully the monkey of our back at last. More later, off to another of Harry's football tournaments in an hour.

Little highlight for me was holding off a Z4 M3 in a 1 on 1 when we seemed to have the track to our selves for 20 mins. He only got close under braking for the right hander after the Dean hairpin. Let him past on the school straight and kept on his tail until he capitulated and went in the pits couple laps later.

Sam's highlight, holding off a chav bus for a fair amount of laps, letting past on school straight giving thumbs up etc. Other driver double takes... as woman, misses braking point for Brook S and spins off. Well and truly owned. Lol.

Now we're both confident at trailing the brakes..... even Sam has the mastered the art very well and understands what benefits that weight over the front gives, did notice the brakes at the end off 20 to 30 mins weren't quite the same as at the beginning of each session. May be down to the 3 year old Brembo HC discs and pads that had only 5mm of meat on them at the start of the day, not sure what they have on them now.

Decided it's time to drop the EBC Yellowstuff pads and go for the EBC Bluestuff pads. Got them for £100 delivered, front only. Would've gone for the Orangestuff but EBC don't make them for Clio callipers. Bluestuff are designed to bring the car to a complete stop where as Orangestuff are designed for high speed scrubbing of speed.

Going to be difficult to make Snetteton race 12th July, Scarlett's 7th Birthday, party and family BBQ so not sure it would be wise to disappear for the day. Silverstone 9th August, is looking good, just have to work out the times of our flights on the 10th August and what time the last race is and when we'll be arriving home to when we have to be back in the road again to drive to Heathrow.

Thanks (Andy?).

I would say you couldn't put your money to better use - even if you don't race the tuition\help we've had over the last two years has brought us on no end. I'm not counting the £25 for 20 mins that you get on a track day in this comment though - teaching you the lines (ish) yes, but untimely they don't teach you how to drive the car on track day tuition.

untimely - ultimately, blindly accepted the suggested word.

The Cookmeister, yes was a blessing for sure, though maybe he thought otherwise after the first session. To say I was crap, 7 mths out of the seat was quite embarrassed myself. LOL. He's in the team managed by Danny Buxton now, who I spent my Thruxton day with last year.

Yep, that's me :)

A valid point, mate. I was certainly thinking along the lines of some focused and organised tuition rather than the 'hire an instructor on the day' type of affair. I've spoken to a former BTCC driver about organising something a couple of times and this might be the year I actually get something sorted. Assuming I get my car back soon! LOL!

No problem - I knew what you meant :)

Andy, no end of them do it, most of the clio cup boys do it.
Ed Pead's a good lad to name but one.
Just for the record... and as I feel this is an appropriate point... I wasn't knocking 'on the day' guidance and tuition from experienced drivers ;) I just wanted to be clear on that! LOL! I very much enjoy the Burpspeed days and want to continue to feel welcome! LOL!

What you have to realise is that tuition on a test day is far more advanced than that at a trackday, they may be the same people doing the teaching but they will have a different agenda due to restriction that are in place (Usually Mr Palmer) lol

Glad you had a trouble free day and also progress with the Mr Cook

Pete what sort of cost is the tuition for a day?

Are you sitting down........

You'll be looking at between £200 (half day) and £400 (full day) this includes any traveling they have to do to the track but most, if closest track don't charge for this. On top of this you have to book a Track Day (with a poss 2nd driver if you want him to show you anything) and take your own track based car. And unless he's an unknown you'll have to maybe register them with the TD organiser as giving you tuition and pay them a corkage fee.

Looked him up, based in Northhampton and is the Instructor for Westbourne Motorsport

Thanks Dinger...it was a relief that all went well with the Cup.

I would like to get some tuition for sure. I feel I hold the car back now more than the other way round. I got fed uptrying to learn to heel/toe as I end up going so slow I may as well not be on track.

Sorted out the Rockinham videos and overlays today, did a lap comparison video of one of my laps and one of Sam's laps.

Pete on top and Sam on the bottom, using my sound.

A non heroic day - just getting some laps under our belts.

Braking into the Dean hairpin,

Doing a side by side lap comparison does show where you make - loose time - could be more adventurous.

And if you want some more lap analysis;

My lap - white braking I think I could move it along a bit - keep the same length just start later and trail it further into the turn. Two things you should note from this graph the sharks teeth and the GPS grouping ( I was a bit tasty with an SLR, LMG, SA80). Compare with Sams below.

Sam was a bit nervous all day.

Cool - I love data / graphs and stuff like that. I applied to go and work for the Honda F1 team a few years back and got invited to attend interview. And then they announced they were leaving F1 and it never went anywhere... LOL! Interesting stuff, cheers :)

Took Harry and Scarlett to Whilton Mill yesterday - bit of karting and a little instruction.

Harry improved by 7 seconds over the day and Scarlett managed to convince the instructors that she's safe to go out on her own - her first ever go driving etc and was playing follow the leader for her sessions.
