Looking good, really want to do Oulton aswell. I've got myself some Pilot Sport Cups for my next trackday so I'll experience the semi-slick feeling then :/

I remember seeing this at the 'Ring last year in July but never got chance to speak to you or see in the car park etc, was going well then too!

oulton is a great track bit of everything! its all stripped and on 15's now made a big differences definately more pokey! we are booked for the ring this year in may are you going back over??

Mine being on 15's changed it so much, felt better in every way. Good to hear, a bit earlier than before aren't you?

we are a bit earlier yea, seemed to struggle for accomodation this year so opted for then!

15's is definately the futire couldnt belive the difference!

Ahh right, we got into Eddie's ok and only booked a few weeks ago although there is a biggish group of us so we've got a nice big apartment

Hopefully be doing a second trip later in the year too!

I run 15's daily and I've got a set of OZ F1's for track with the Sport Cups on

they days we were looking at he only had 1 place left, we found a really nice place last year so heading back there its posher than home ha! we have 3 sets now but going to sell both 16's and get some 15's would love some f1's they seem to suit very well!

its easier for you boys in essex! it takes us longer to get to dover than it does to germany from the other side! heading form hull this year on the overnight ferry

I was at the ring the same time and can vaguely remember seeing your car mate! I unfortunately won't be returning to the ring this year due to getting married!! Not sure how I'll cope without my fix either. Been going there for the last 7yrs twice a year.

I tried to get over to the ring as part of my stag do but it's not gonna happen! The others aren't so keen of me doing one and leaving them at the f1 in spa so I can go and get a few laps in! Lol!
Can't fault my wife to be though mate. She has been there with me for the last 2yrs and she loves it!

I always do the drive over through the night. I can do it in 10hrs which ain't bad really. I've fitted a roof vent for this year as windows that don't open and sitting in traffic on the Brussels ring road was not a ideal situation to have!!!!

2013 will be my return to crack the low 8min barrier. Current best is 8:46.

some good going that is! ours was around 9 i think but rarely as you know do you get clear laps! only just started to learn bits of the track after 2 years!

stag do at the ring would be awesome whats up with them! were off to prague next week for one.

have you a link to your car have you put a project thread up on here??

That's on road tyres as well btw. I had zero clear laps last year when I was there and nearly had a coming together with the barrier due to oil/coolant dropped by a m3. There's a video on YouTube somewhere that was uploaded by zee germans.

The reason they weren't feeling the ring stag do is because they haven't got any fast cars now they've all had kids!! Lol! They would have to rent the swifts and seeing as they've all come from m3's and big hp turbo cars they didn't feel the swift was up to it!! I've driven one and it was a scream tbh!!

I've been to Prague for a stag do!! There's some mint places to go to there if you know what I mean! Lol!

just back from the ring this year good trip but only did about 4 laps this year was allot of down time with the track and pissing down some days!

only 2 laps recorded on the video oddly again no clear laps but still an awesome place!

Only issues we had were bad wheel wobble on the road tyres on the way to the ring, the weld on the scorpion exhaust broke so had to bodge with some fencing! car pulled 142MPH on the autobahans quite a few times and averaged 39MPG!

yea that was us, were you the southampton lot!? think we spoke to the lad with the bmw who had a missfire issue?

our mate is back over there picking the escort cosworth up as it broke!!

engine is still standard bar decat air filter and remap goes well!

the cossy had blown one of the coil packs, he had a bit of an issue on the way there but managed to bodge it, sadly it didnt even make it near the ring! he's just been flown over there this weekend to pick it up, 2 new coil packs and some wirring and a 600 quid bill! the breakdown company paid for his hire car this end, accomodation in london, flight there and taxi to the garage! that receipt in oldham ringers was the only thing the garage gave him in exchange for his car and keys!!

how did you fix a clogged injector!? clios's make loads of sence on tracks people dont realise just how good they are there!

well sadly she is dead! we had a bit of a disaster at anglesey track day.

Clucth seems to have exploded and taken out the gearbox, engine, radiator, air con rad, oil cooler, fan few water hoses etc! there's oil and coolant everywhere!! will get pics of mate later

yea gunna fix. will strip down when get a min see if can see full extent of the damage and start sourcing parts! hopefully get away with a bell housing then its a new clucth maybe flywheel and then all the rest!

Well after a few months we finally dragged it up to Lee's garage to whip the engine out. Engine and box out in an hour and half with a few stella's!

Gearbox is complately scrap the Diff looks likes it may have exploded and cuased the damage its hard to tell what went first. but allot of metal bits came out in the oil and the cassing is dead so the rebuilt box is probably just scrap!

you can see the egine in the pics above the gearbox mounts 3 have failed so we took the decission not to reuse which is a shame as its a very good engine! so currently on the lookout for new engine and box for starters plus a few other things to get us back up and running. We may even buy a damaged car and strip that for bits?

Got some pics from last night but waiting for mate to send the pics. She will live on soon!

Mr Beard had an arctic 182 up at the unit. May be worth a chat with him?

I've no idea on the condition of the engine/history of it though.

I have a 172 with engine and box I am killing soon, would let it go for right price, pretty sure only difference is 182 exhaust mani and ecu aint it which you have? bung up the gearbox speedo drive output and your away

have already been up for a test drive car is sound but i think maybe too good to break!

Pics from the dead engine!

Managed to pick up a donor car today well it was dropped off! won this on ebay today and seller delivered this afternoon

172 with a supposedly 17,000 miles. Now there is no history with the car but the clocks do indeed say 17k the steering wheel gearnob wear etc again all point at this being genuine! We are stripping this one tomorrow will replace the belts and fit all back into the black one. its been stood a while and an imobiliser fault but we wouldnt want to risk starting it without the belts anyway but was running fine when put into storage. watch this space!

its hard to say what caused what we think either clutch plate failed or diff blew and i think its probably the later! there were bits of metal when we dropped the gear oil so think diff blew then hit the clutch flywheel etc at 7000RPM and wrecked everything!

As you say scary when you could be in another country or actually on the ring as it dropped its engine oil all over the place through the failed oil cooler!

the engine although the mounting lugs are no more is still actually spot on and was very strong, hopefully the new 17k one will be too!

I have seen that a couple of times now. On my car a rivet in the pressure plate failed on a brand new clutch destroying the gearbox. After some months Valeo got me a brand new gearbox.

hmm interesting, it does look like the clutch that caused the issue to be honest ill mention it to the mnechanic today popping in on the way home! the clutch has done no more than 1000 miles and one side of it has literally come off!?

Well she's in and running! Another Tuesday night at the garage!

we had a few issues one of which trying to use the 182 RS inlet found a massive airleak so had to use a combo of a few 172/182 bits but she fired into action. Engine sounds spot on its been stood a good 5+ years changed belts fluids etc its started with no taps rattles etc really does look and sound like the genuine 17k engine so think the doner car was a bargain!

we have a power steering leak on the main pipe so lee is going to repair that and re route it so its infront of the radiator for some cooling as we boil the fluid quite allot!

we have it taxed until the end of october so going to run it about for a few weeks to check she's all ok before putting it away for winter!

think a mate filmed the first start up so will get some footage

First outing of the year after the new engine/box and all seems well!

Few of us went to outlton park 16th feb. Car felt really good. its had a few new things done:

2 sets of 15W wheels powder coated blue one set running full slicks one running michelin pilot cup sport tyres
lowered a good few mm all round
AST Top mounts for some more camber
oil breather
bit of blue paint!

had a misshap very early in the day ended up in the gravel trap, the new brakes and cold tyres locked the front end up and was far too fast to turn then so bit of a spin and into the gravel!

another update! the last track day above went well and drove home fine but on the way to storing it decided to start crunching into 3rd gear!

Box has since been removed, rebuilt by agency and installed again along with a little lighten and balance of the flywheel whilst it was out!

Have taken the plunge and bought a trailer to remove the need for it to be road legal. Bought it cheap and modified it to take the clio and still fit inside my garage with the clio on top.

Have removed the xenon headlights and replaced with some old crap ones that I have removed all the insides from and added a cold air feed to the drivers side and then wrapped like the rest of the car

Next outing is cadwell park Saturday the 22nd of September. Also got a couple more sets of alloys/tyres with a mixture of semi slick, full slick and trying to source some wets. Have fitted a whiteline RARB but yet to try it on track!

We also got a bit giddy and chopped the rear of the bumper! we had a good look round and realised its basically one big air brake! we need to do something with the exhaust so no pictures as yet but hopefully down for cadwell park next week
