ClioSport would like to offer members the opportunity to take part in a dedicated 30 minute track time session at French Car Show 2008.

The session will take place on Rockingham’s International Circuit which includes the main grandstand straight, banked oval, and the technical infield section that managed to catch a few drivers out last year!

Proper track time. Usually a couple of laps with no overtaking & yellow flags following a course car, then the remainder of the time is effectively open pit track day.

Ah ok, i've never done it before so dont think i should go straight to a big event LOL!

this is the best time to do it.

short session, gives you a taste.

and you can drive as fast or as slow as you like!

always useful to get pointers from people as you go round to, see hwat lines people take, where they brake etc etc.

so.... get ya name down!!

Need a helmet - that's about it.

I had my first track experience at an event like this, totally standard 172, never looked back :)

You can use most motorcycle helmets or if you want a proper MSA FIA approved one somewhere like demon tweeks stock them.

I use the Sparco Pro Jet
Demon tweeks £181.00

Depends on if you do many track days after.
You don't have to spend that much at all.

You can normally hire on the day I think.

Also, starting on a day like this is good as you don't have to worry about Radicals, or GT3 RSs coming around to pass you on every third lap.

Deadline will be Mid February as I need to get the money to the organisers in time.

I'll post up payment details as soon as I get them :)

I'm up for this...my first time on a track was in FCS 07.

They let you hire helmets there for £10 for the half hour and it was £10 for passengers to be with you (but they would need a helmet).

It was sensible and you couldn't overtake unless the person in front of you had acknowledged that you were there and let you overtake.

You weren't allowed timing equipment as this would be encouraging you to 'race'

My only problem was I turned up in a T-shirt and so had to wear long sleeves, that was okay, but my only thing with long sleeves was a goretex jacket...imagine wearing that...windows closed, wearing helmet in mid July!!!!

Was so much fun! :race: :approve:

Just make sure you get yourself to the briefing with a lot of time to spare...the stewards didn't know how to get the car from the outer track to the inner track, so I had to run with the RTOC as they closed the briefing before I got there! (Barstewards!)

The only problem is that it releases your track urges and you want to get on more tracks! (Still yet to, but am gonna get some tracktime in later in the year!)

Yeah, don't worry about being slow. Nobody's gonna be uber quick in 30mins... It's just a laugh anyhow.
Get your names down. There was a diesel and a 1.2 last year....

We have some tiny changes since we sent some early info out but doesn't really change what Day has said. I will be speaking to Day tomorrow to give him a full update but yes its no more expensive than last year.

We will probably pencil in two x 30 minute slots from Cliosport each with a potential of 35 cars max (previously we notified sessions were up to 40). Thats potentially 16 more than last year due to the move to the big circuit.

Quick run down on costs for everyone who thinks it's expensive before the discussion starts. Someone aways thinks they can get a Sunday trackday for £99.

Rockingham track day is £249 on a Sunday mid summer. Sign on 100 cars = £25'000. Sometimes they charge £199 which still nets = £19'900.

FCS charge sessions at £37 x 30 cars (average sales) = £1110 x 12 sessions = £13320 so the way we do it, it actually loses us money to allow clubs on track in 30 minute sessions but makes it a better event for everyone.

We will be using the pit lanes as well this year.

I'll be along to the show itself, lurking in the background somewhere.:)

I'll give the action ago next time round when I've built up a bit of track experience.

This is the best time to gain your track experience. Lots of novices having their first outing here.

You're far better going out and losing your cherry surrounded by like cars of similar pace - as opposed to dodging Radicals, Exiges, and GT3 RSs that come past you every third lap as you probably would on a normal open day.

Mark's spot on. My first track outing was FCS last year, you are running with pretty much similar cars (obviously some have more power or better set up) but its not like you're gonna have an Ultima or an Atom fly up and past you from out of nowhere. On Rockingham last year, they said that you could only overtake on the left so long as the person you were overtaking has seen you and indicated to say you can pass. It is restrained, but its still good fun. After 30 mins you can come off...so its not like you've still got several hours left.

Now I’m a little apprehensive, first time out in the Trophy, and I don’t have V6 or (supercharged throttle bodied nitrous injected F4R) power.

If the two sessions are confirmed can I ride shotgun with someone in the earlier one? Happy to pay towards the cost of the session.
