If you want a 197 dont me and a mate jus met up with one had some fun our 182s r only remapped and mine lowered 40mm and we had him easy even on the 2 corners we had. then on the moterway we pushed him out the way! imo cant see the point in spending that much on a car thats slower? just thought id let potential buyers no

..........but yours aint standard. Ive had my 182 (standard) against a mate in a 197 (standard) in the summer and there is feck all difference. Also the build is MILES ahead of a 182. I should know i've just got one ;)

But i could just get some jap turbo barge for 4k, and waste your 7k ass, it aint all about straight line speed

yeh but its cheaper to buy a 182 with the mods ive got and have a better car imo! like i said build quality im not to fussed about its still an ok standard in the 182, i think 197 owners are using the build quality as an excuse as i neva hurd any complaints before???

I could buy a 172 cup/ph 1 172, mod it like yours, still be quicker, and have change in my pocket.

so that makes its better than yours, yes?

i have owned a 172 cup and a 225 aand i can safely say that the 197 is better than any of those, not staright line faster but i know i would loose them in the twistys ,

Sorry, I'm being pedantic here but it's pissing me off.
It's know not no when referring to knowing something.

As for the 197, I have test drove one twice now and yes, if I hadn't just bought a house, I would have one. It would be the R27 for me though.

Why is it when I look at the way you have structured your arguments and written the English language am I not surprised you would both rather have a Corsa VXR?

197 is better looking, better built and safer than the 172/182.
That may make it heavier, but it is better balanced and with those brakes allows you to go into corners far quicker.

They are however all Renaultsports so are all good cars.

I think it really comes down to life choices:

If you want a track car get a 182 Trophy.
If you want a quick road car get a 172/182/197.
The more you can afford the nearer the 197 you should be aiming - it is all about advancement.

  Mondeo TDCI 130
172 = mint
172 cup = mint if you can do without the luxuries!, marvellous for the track boys!
182 = same but newer, still mint!
182 cup = stealing the 172's glory when its really a lard arse!
197 = new generation, feckin awesome! yet to have a go in a cup, but driven 2, and they have both impressed me!!

It was probably due to the driver too.. for example clio 182 cup round the evo track 1.33.10 clio r27 1.31.70 (the fastest renault they have tested) surely thats a fair example of all round performance if your driving on the edge as i they use the same driver for each car....

Do we actually know if the 197 driver was trying??

Do we know if the 197 had 33 miles on it or 23,000??

Or have you not thought about that?

2 corners and a bit of motorway. Road test of the year, well done.

Well said mate. I went up against 172Petey in a Cup when he had it remapped, inlet, panel filter and exhaust and there is barely anything in it. He pulled the slightest amount mate so he must not have been giving it as much.

  porsche 944 - 80's ftw!
Im looking onto px'ing the civic for a 197 cup.

Went into the dealer today and if ive time tommorow im going to test drive a normal 06 197 to compare the difference to my old 172 cup.

Depending on the px price im offered i may sign up there and then.

Is there any dealership anywhere that can get them quicker than 3 months though, this is the amount of time i may have to wait for one to be built (according to the dealer today).

Quick translation:

"If you want a 197 I suggest you don't buy one. My mate and I came across one whilst driving our 182s and we had some fun. Both 182s are remapped and mine is lowered 40mm. We easily had the advanatge on the road, even on 2 corners. Then, on the motorway "we pushed him out of the way" ???

In my opinion, I can't see the point in buying such an expensive car which is actually slower than its predecessors. I just thought I'd let potential buyers know." ;-)

The fundamental flaw in your argument is that not all potential buyers of the 197 want a car that is faster than the 182. You overlook many of the other reasons potential buyers may be attracted to the 197:

e.g I didn't go and find out if the 197 was quicker than the 182 - I bought it as I thought that the 197 was a better looking car and more grown up at that. The driving position was better for me and quality was and is a step up from the 182. I'm not going to lose any sleep over the fact that the 182 may be faster - if I or any other 197 owner wanted a 182 they could have bought one. Remember that.

don't mention it -I'm sure the 182 is a great car but it's not for everyone which is fair enough really.
