Weird Brake/Steering Issue

Rob

Having just fixed my engine mount after a small disaster, it seems most of my problems with that car are now fixed....

Except for the "clunk" under light braking, which today I got a bit more information on, I was driving in the blackwall tunnel at about 15mph and the traffic stopped, I slowed down gradually, and then clunk...

But this time I noticed something different, as the "clunk" happened, the steering wheel jumped a bit, this particular time, to the left a little, as it was slightly turned right, like it was centering (I wasn't holding onto it)

Any ideas??

It's an odd one!

I have checked nout, because tbh having never had a problem like this before I wouldn't know what to check.

Could something have been left loose since changing a driveshaft? As that seems to be when the problem was developed...

seems a probability - best to suspect things that have been changed/disturbed if you're getting problems after having done work

If its your rack, with the engine on stood still lightly move the wheel from left to right 1/4 of a turn, if you feel a small clunking through your feet the rack bushes are worn and this may be part of the problem... maybe...

for the subframe/rack, i'd just go round and tighten everything - the rack's held to the subframe by a couple of clamps, and the subframe's got six mounting points - just check all of the bolts are tight

if it's related to the work you've had done to the driveshaft, could be the new shaft itself, or anything they've touched to change it - bottom arm balljoint, mebbe

sounds like a case of going over it all
