What should I do?

  CLIO 172 SPORT
Hi,

A bit of history, I bought a 02 172 with 66K miles for about £3K 8 months ago, everything was going well, till I got the cam belt changed, on the way home it snapped & caused £1000, the garage refused to fix (long story) so took to another garage, so the first bill was £1200 & the 2nd £800.

Now 2 days ago it snapped again & I think the engine is f**ked.
The car is living nightmare.

My relationship with Clio's is over.

My question is what do I do, tempted to set fire to it :)
can I sell it for parts or sell for a non runner, or should I put a different engine in it & use for track days? (but not a 172 engine)

How much is it worth?

Look forward to your comments

Cheers Tom

lol can i ask how it snapped when you'd just had it changed? and how the garage managed to riggle there way out of paying for it?
sounds like youve been very unlucky.
dont think cambelts are prone to failing on clios any more than any other car. (there just expensive to change!)

You have some how managed to snap 2 cambelts!! were they done at specialists or quick fit, i would be fuming!!! surely the engine should of been 'rebuilt' if you spent 1200 after the first cambelt failure?!

Surely the 1st garage is at fault, time for some court action maybe. You get 30mins free with most solicitors for a consultation.

:eek:what!!! thats ridiculous
any work like that carried out should come with a warranty. usually either 12k miles or 12 months whichever comes first. think you've been royally bummed there mate. definately wouldnt of let the garage get away with not paying for there bad workmanship, spesh if it only lasted long enough for you to be halfway home.

get the f**king baseball bat and have some words mate. theyve taken you for a megafuck!

Thanks for the tips, the first garage was a living nightmare, (there's a long separate post) the 2nd garage far better, yes it's had a full engine rebuild, he think's the car might have had a small front crash as some point & could be out of line causing extra stress on the belt causing it to shred. I think I will get a Lotus Elise 118s next time or a Golf GTI.

I nearly PX the car last weekend, I test drove a Clio 200 but found the ride to hard... lol I must be getting old. Gutted I was offered £1500 now it's worth £0.50p

What's the best engine to put in? a Honda VTEC? how much will it cost? I'm on a tight budget now....

Cheers Tom

That to me sounds like bulls**t and hes trying to fob you off. The belt is part of the engine and doesn't touch the chassis of the car. The only thing it may effect would be the drive shafts, excessive angles if it was bent. But even then i doubt. You can get the chassis checked on a laser jig. Maybe one of the wheels the cam belt sits on isn't true? These can be replaced.

Don't give up mate. They're in the wrong.

I think I might just put the car on pistonheads for sale, I have left it unlocked hoping someone with nick it lol. Ideally I want to stick in the garage until I can afford to turn it into a track day car. I'm dead busy just started a new job, so travel from Newcastle to London for meetings most weeks & just launched my own website plus I'm a single dad so have little time & can't be bother with the hassle.

Shame as it's a brilliant car, I bought some new pilot sport 3 tyres & handles really well.

Maybe I should take a few days to think about it. I have hired a Golf bluemotion, amazing mpg! but really boring & expensive every day to hire....

Twice unlucky, I do feel for you you. Really the only way to get anywhere with these garages is see Citizens advice or a solicitor but as you're a busy bloke sell it as it is and start again. I can only offer tea & sympathy. Good luck mate.

You've been royally shafted here mate, trading standards should have been right up the garage's dung pipe for that, bad craic that.

Just get the first garage to pay for it!!!!!!

The whole reason they're making it difficult is that they want you to give up..... they're at fault, no question. There will be very little effort involved, just get on the phone to a solicitor.
Even if you don't give a crap about the money, do it for the principle, you shouldn't let wanker garages get away with stuff like this.

Also, why didnt you take it to a bloody specialist in the first place! It's ridiculous how many times this has been said on here and still, people just will not listen.

Flol!

I'd get the second garage to pay for it!

They fitted a belt and it failed. Hmmm wouldn't even see the court room ffs! I think it's pretty straight forward.

If you're not willing to fight it ie you decided to get Joe's jobworths to fit it for 3 beers and a wham bar with no invoice then more fool you.

Are the second garage washing their hands of it?

The 2nd garage thinks, I should not spend any more money on it, so I have decide to sell for spare or repair.

Anyone interested in buying the piece of sh*t, I will try & get some photos up soon, it's black 2006, 66,000 miles totally standard
Engine broke.
Car is at NE22 6AG northumberland, just north of newcastle upon tyne.

Thanks Tom

So you're letting yourself get dry bum raped for the 2nd time then?

Who did the work? Both 1st and 2nd times?

dont part the car both garages are at fault they should be sorting the car free of charge name and shame and let other clio sport owners in the north east avoid these garages they might just change there mind about fixing yours if there going to lose customers by having there names all over saying how crap they are even though they should be fixing it anyway

  CLIO 172 SPORT
I have too much on my plate at the moment to deal with small claims, I have heard they have quite a few cases against from other clients, so they took loads of photos, to ensure they were not to blame, and put it down to a pulley failure.

This is the garage, www.centrevillegarage.co.uk/ they got really aggressive, I had a courtesy car, & refuse to take back till they fixed, they followed me, & took the their car back, left me & my 2yr old stranded, & held the baby seat, until I returned the car, they even charged £240 to review what had broken after I spent £1200 on a cam belt & service 2 days before, and the 2nd garage had to collect the car in bits.

How much can I sell the car as a non runner? as plan to add to piston heads tonight.

Cheers Tom

Hello trading standards.

Why are you just accepting this mate?

Hi Rob,

That's great your local, I'm currently on a train, but the car is parked at ne22 6ag on the main drive so welcome to have a look, I can't remember if I locked the car, it's not washed & is full of my daughters toys, I was thinking around £500 - £750, the steering wheel has had it, alloys curbs, mmm I'm not selling this very well....

  CLIO 172 SPORT
It could have been a option, but I bought a £200 Peugeot 205 TD (yes I will be driving around with a paper bag over my head) last night to tie me over till I source a good Lotus Exige, happy to px it for a cheap track day car plus cash your way.

Well to be honest mate body work work has a few blemishes, alloys curbed by previous owner and hole in silencer, other than that runs spot on.
Y reg Clio Sport 1.2 16v, 76k on the clock.

Hi Mate,

How about I give you the car for free, & you swap any parts you want to turn your 1.2 into a 172, then you can drive my car off a cliff & jump out last minute, everyone is a winner! I would then claim on my insurance.

Bugger that wouldn't work I mean push off a cliff engine is broken

Is that illegal?

still on train, so wifi will run out in 5 mins only paid for a hr, right time for a another stella to help past the time.

Take the garage to trading standards. If they threaten you or assault you, go to the cops. No way I'd let someone get away with that.

cant believe it mate thats s**t luck but you really are not helping yourself by spreading your cheeks so they shaft you. Understandable you are busy etc single parent but 2k thats a lot of money (in my eyes) i would seriously going to trading standards and see where you stand.
