Whats the most amount of money you've lost on a car...

Bought an ek9 for £7800 sold it to my mate for £6500, then bought an S14a for £4000 and sold it for £4500. Then in my infinate knowledge I bought a renault, spent so far about 1300 on it which i'll never see again, not to count vehicle depreciation. My good fortune had to run out at some point!

Had a starlet gt turbo when i was 18, paid £2800 for it, done 30k in it over 2 years, replaced 2 CV joints and sold it for £2500. I loved that car

Bought a very clean 205 gti for £1200, did a trackday in it and big end bearings went.

Cost about £800 to rebuilt engine plus some other bits sold it two years later for £1150.

Most I've lost is probably £2k in six months on a brand new punto that we got at a heavily discounted price. If we had paid full price for it we would have lost over £5k on it....We are currently loosing £2.5k a year on our 500 abarth with pcp (not too bad I suppose).

£1k on the 350Z I had for 3 months.

But I got the meg about £1k cheaper than I would of done when I got the Z, so its all relative.

Dad's done £27k in depreciation, but he did buy new and get 14 years of use out of it so it's not quite as bad as it sounds... actually yes it is, it's f**king loads. I'm never going to buy a new car, ever.

Bought my clio for £2000, spent about £500 on it, then wrote it off and sold it to the car breakers for £60 :/

i paid £3700 for my standard clio in jan this year and reckon ive spent another £5-6k on it to where it stands now. there's no way im getting that back lol.

My dad bought his m3 brand new in April 08, £54k

He's still got it now, only done 13000 miles but I reckon it would be scary in terms of depreciation, fuel, tax and servicing what it's actually cost, it's probably worth about £25k trade in now....

He says he will never own another one these days, not worth the expense!

Over the years i've probably lost about £50-60k on cars.

I don't give a fcuk. Its my hobby and I enjoy it.

I had always made money on cars. Cat c 106 Diablo gti with 50k on clock. Paid £500, needed a head gasket which I done and service. Owed me £680. Sold for £2150. Sold it within 2 days to a local lad who had money To burn being in the army. Didn't care about being a cat and was over the moon with
It. Still see it today!

Although lost 3k on supercharged v6 in engine repairs!!!! The exhaust got
Blocked, caused detonation So was recommended it had the lump rebuild/changed.

For me I have always bought the car I want a the bottom of the pile. Ie the cheapest. Hence a £700cup with 155k on it!!! Regardless of service history and have owned a lot of cat cars. Although now I'm gettin older I have decided my most wanted affordable car is an e46 m3. I know there buyable or around 6500 but I will buy a good one of I do and won't mind spending 10-11k on 1. When I have the money that is!!

On my mk5 fiesta ZS...

Car £4500
Engines £6000? (1x replacement 1.6 lump then a FRP lump)
Modifications £5000
Maintenance £3000

All in the space of around 18months, the car was gonna get crushed due to an altercation with the boys in blue... So I swapped it for a Ibiza Cupra which I sold for £3k ... Worst decision ever getting rid of that car, but my hand was forced :(

Cost me a fortune, since then I haven't learnt and continue to throw money at cars- my current clio included

On my Pug 306 1.6 XS.

In 3 years, including purchase, repairs (Head Gasket, Valve Guide Oil Seals), Crash repairs (Rear Beam, Bumpers) and modifications (Christ, rear beam disc conversion, cams, exhaust, lower than your nan's tits, bodywork mods, spoiler, side skirts, etc etc it just goes on!) it cost me £9,000. It was written off by a moped when parked and I ended up with £2,500 pay out. TBH though it failed MOT the day before so I was happy to see the back of it as it was about to cost me another £500 or so to get it through. Then I was going to whack a 2.0T 405/6 Engine in it.

Said i'd never modify again, that lasted 2 cars, then the 182 came along.

17k in 12 months on a 911. I did go in with my eyes open and knew I'd make a loss though, agree with other above, I'll never expect to make money off a car unless it's a classic, as long as I enjoy them while I have them I'm happy!

Lost about £4.3k on my R26 in 6 months, needed a very quick sale though so had to be done.

Made money on every other car I've owned bar one though, so still up in the grand scheme of things.

I lost a fortune on my 182. Bought for 5k, sold for 3.5k 16 months later after spending probably 2k on unexpected repairs!

My personal favourite though was my first car in Korea. 1995 Hyundai shitebox, bought for 350 quid from a mate, had an accident after a month which cost 200 quid to put right, gearbox died 3 weeks later so scrapped the car and discovered my mate hadn't paid some of the taxes on it. Ended up getting about 15 quid for it after 7 weeks ownership!
