where is the ECU located on the 1.2 16v engine?

recently i found an ECU looking box on the back of the airbox?

after i removed it i found anoily substance at the bottom of it.

this a normal thing?

ecu should be at the back of the battery i think.

its back on the car now mate but there is no ECU on the battery at all.

I thought it was strange having it on the back of the engine.

2001 - 2005/6 i think - the new style 1.2 16v has it again near the battery

thanks guys now why would there be an oil gunk on the bottom of it?

yeah on the bottom of the ECU there was a Oilly dirt gunk on it. as for your second question of

The oil gunk will be because the crankcase breather comes up into the plenum at the back.

thats normal, the oil from the engine is kicked out the breather pipe into the plenham and is then burnt off by the engine, nothing to worry about

its a shite design and not helped by poorly run in engines.

Also causes most of the cars driveability issues.

Yup its proper crap......also by having a carbon bonnet or a normal bonnet with a dodgy water seal

Water leaks and drips onto the frickin ECU wiring !!! causing havoc.
