Where to spend the money to improve lap times

964

  Clio, 911, Cayenne
My clio 172 has the spec listed below and I want to get opinions from people with seriously modded cars or race cars as to where my money will be best spent now.

I could go firmer springs on the B14's and R888's, cage, or AST or Spax coilovers.... or anything else?

Where would you spend your money next?

Car is stripped and weighs 1000kg

Bilstein B14 coilovers
Eibach Camber front bolts
Whiteline rear anti roll bar

Powerflex dogbone engine mounting

Federal 595 RSR tyres
Brembo HC front discs & Ferodo DS2500 pads all round
Mocal braided lines
ATE Super Blue fluid

Thanks!

throw a diff and a cage in there + decent tyres (not 888's they're not much different to the 595's) + 1 tub of brave pills = -3sec ;)

Thanks Fred, I noticed a lot of wheel spin out of 2nd gear corners. Would a diff eliminate this?

Ditto in exactly the same order and perhaps get some data on your tyre temps to optimise the geometry.

We went 1 second quicker at most circuits with a quaife fitted, little bit of setup changes needed to suit it.

Oh and Fred is right, there are better tyres out there than R888's

What is your time around Brands Indy in your 172?

So we can see where you want to move from and to...need things a bit stiffer & stickier than what you're running IM(novice)O if you want to get sub 58's 57's.

Can you shed\strip any more weight?

I can consistently do a low 60's lap, no quicker.

Heating/AC needs to come out, radio needs to come out, but a cage needs to go in.

I should say thats with a passenger in the car so 70kg heavier than I should be.

Between 60.01 and 60.10s

jay will say Direzza Dunlops - good tyre

think we took 3-4 secs off burpspeeds lap time @mallory just with setup, either that or Tony had his Viagra that day ;)

so reading that is the car 1000kg plus you and the passenger?

If so you can find yourself another 60-70kg's out of the car if you fancy pulling it apart properly. I'd say fitting perspex windows would shed some decent weight as well.

Things like changing the exhaust could also release you a few kg's and a few bhp to go with it

Yes car was 1016kg but still a bit of weight to come out. We then had driver and passenger and a full tank of fuel.

Happy to take anything else thats not needed out of the car but a cage will go back in which will be 40kg+?
