Which Clio 182 - Dilemma inside.

As some will know (due to my numerous threads) I am on the hunt for a 182. There have been a few potential candidates to date which have fallen at the last hurdle due to one thing or another. However, I have these 3 firmly in my sights at the moment:

1. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320755338859&ssPageName=ADME:B:BODO:UK:1

2004, Artic Blue, 28k, FF, Belts done at Renault, Ktec exhaust and decat otherwise standard. Absolute pristine bodywork and interior apparently. I am awaiting a response on service history. Un-taxed. Mot Feb 2012. Roughly 6 hours away £3800 + tax

2. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3083493.htm

2004, Black Gold, 52k, FF, Belts done by local garage who insist they used correct locking tools, Miltek. Bodywork not 100%, FSH, 4 months tax, 10 months MOT. £3300 but maybe knock a little off. Roughly 4 hours away

3. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3178790.htm

2004, Artic Blue, 56k, FF, Belts done by specialist, Miltek, Clean bodywork with few blemishes, Due a service, power steering leak, unsure on tax and MOT. £3500. Roughly 6 hours away

If you were in my shoes which one would you go for and why?

Of those three, just from your descriptions I'd be inclined to go for the 28k one. The other two have issues.

No brainer, surely...?

It's the most expensive though - but I see what you are saying :)

As for worst colour though, nah. It's actually my second favourite colour. Favourite being Royal Blue. :)

Ask for 101 decent pictures of EVERYTHING due to not wanting to waste 12 hours of your life (and fuel) to find it not as described. Any honest john will send you 1,001 pics :)

If that were me, I'd ask the guy to put 6 months tax on it otherwise it's a hassle driving it home. He won't do it if it's a nail as he knows it won't sell.

Just my 2 cents anyway...

Good luck !

I will ask him to meet me in the middle regarding tax at least. I doubt he will be up for taxing it for me. He seems an honest enough guy, he told me he paid 5k for it back in april and i have trawled through his ebay feedback and he isn't lying. He is selling due to upgrading to a more economical Audi A3 TDi. He is very adament I go view the car and promises he would let me travel from Aberdeen if he wasn't 100% i wouldn't be happy with the car. If the service history checks out then it may well be a winner - I hope.

I wouldn't be buying for another 2 weeks as I am away working so unable to travel to buy the car and he is alos waiting on the return of the logbook as he had a private plate on it. So it fits in well really and gives time to get the car taxed and what-not.

Any thoughts on the other cars?

what info are you awaiting for the service history on car #1? TBH given that a service history is a massive selling point, anyone who keeps you waiting regarding details of this is possibly trying to hide something, i'd be put off.

just read his ad on here he seems really genuine and you can look back though his post history regarding the car. He also says that he will fix the power steering problem. I'd go for that one defo

He is at work (nightshift) so will tell me the milages that are stamped in the book in the morning.

Dan - Yea the seller of car 3 does seem to be very genuine but it's not the simpliest of sales due to him not knowing when he can sell due to waiting for a new car to be delivered. The cost of the PS leak to be fixed would be added onto price, so he'd be looking for closer to full asking price. So for a couple 100 more I could get a car with half the mileage.

Out of those three, definitely the top one. No contest.

PS: there's no such colour on 182s as Royal Blue, do you mean Racing Blue?

providing the SH checks out number 1 BUT what are the bodywork issues on number 2? - if not too bad that would be my first choice as its closer, better colour (imho), taxed and cheaper

From info below, number 1.
But do you want to know a bit about the exhaust on it? K-Tec plus decat might be too much if you are like me. That will be a few hundred quid to put right if it bothers you enough.
Any details on the number of owners? A biggie for me.
Re history, stamps only or stamps plus receipts. I really need to see receipts (they contain the detail).

If it is too loud then I will put the Cat back in. No issues there. At the end of the day I could sell the Ktec exhaust and put a quieter one on. Yea owners is a biggie for me too. The guy selling is the 4th owner. The one before him was a trader. So a few more owners than I'd like but if the car checks out okay then I can live with it.

Service history is mainly stamps. I have just got off the phone from Renault london and they have confirmed everything and the services that have been carried out are the correct ones, and very thorough. I was slightly concerned due to the lack of receipt for timing belt but REnault have confirmed it was done last February at 21,000 miles along with the waterpump and other bits and bobs. Unfortunately they can't issue me a receipt for it which is a bit of a bummer.

I think this car is a go-er. Plan to collect it on the 1st of October. It is exactly the car I was looking for, albeit a bit less paperwork, but I guess I can't have it all with a 7 year old car.
