realised its utterly ridiculous in terms of spending time and money on a car ??!!

Ive alocated myself 1 bottle of zymol a month and top ups of what i already have.

I do enjoy washing my car but i was going to spend £120 on a pot of wax ffs. At the end of the day theres only me who will notice the difference, which isnt much, between a £120 pot and a £15 pot. i regularly get comments on how shiney it is and more often that not its dirty and has no lsp on it what so ever.

Hahahaha. Luckily i've limited my spending, althought I nearly bought a porter cable thing the other day.

That zymol is rediculous money don't understand why you would pay for it! Also whats the deal on DW where they refuse to say the name of it lol.

Something to do with turtle wax having a problem with it/legal reasons who knows.

I did end up buying a G220 but i must admit its had some good useage, and i regularly use it on mine.

I lov eit, its a good product. I will try Duragloss soon but seeing as im not washing ym car every day now im not fussed by the price as a single bottle will last the month.

i got into detailing but don't think i spend too much. more about being accurate with what you want and allocating yourself a decent budget. if you buy a decent range of products your set for absolutely ages so it ends up being quite good value for money.

think more of the problems come when you buy sonax, then swap for menzerna, then swap for megs etc. ends up being a big waste of money.

no i managed it 4 times in one week once but in general its twice a week, now its once a week or once every 2 weeks max.

Have to say I have calmed down recently...not even cleaned my car for 3 weeks now which is a bit of a record. When I do it I do it well and enjoy it but at one point I was pretty much spending a whole day a week on my car and then anyone elses and found that was a bit too much time really.

I am not too bothered about the money as not THAT much set against the cost of buying and running a (FRENCH!) car, but if I started again I would have not bought about half the things I have. So many barely used bottles of products I will probably never even use which is a bit of a waste.

Thats it , Ive bought many products along the way but really once you find a good combo stick with it

I only buy menzerna polishes and Werkstat acrylic jet sealant now as i really like the result i get with them and only when i need it and everything else is stuff i already own and am just it running down and will not be replacing it

You could spend a fortune and if you go on DW the for sale section is littered with stuff people have bought and hardly used something and then sell it and ove onto the next thing

i spend a clean fortune on detailing stuff

but i do my cars, family cars and frequently others pay me to do their cars. so in a way it pays for itself. at the same time i think the benefit of using premium products for durability alone is worth the cost

ive already done 4 cars and am considering going onto a 5th, my aunties. And judging by the state the clio came in when i bought it form her i seriosuly wont be looking forward to it. I enjoy doing it but i think ill stick to cheaper products now, maybe limit myself to collinite and jeff's sealant, SRp and menz polishes when i need them.

I agree with the original post, the only thing I have trouble with swirl makrs but since i stopped using the drive through ( i know lol) there not too bad.

lasts for months that stuff ^

so i kind of agree, my cars arent concourse but there easliy good enough to stand out as clean and tidy.

If I could just choose one set of products to keep my car looking great and I like using it would be:

Snow foam with wax
Megs shampoo plus (think this is great value for the money)
Menzerna polishes
AG SRP
CG Body Blitz Sealant
Swisswax Onyx
Blackfire tyre gel
AG Fast Glass
Poorboys Natural Look Dressing
Gliptone leather cleaner and conditioner
Sonus green and grey clays
Megs Last Touch QD (for during drying)
Sonus Caranuba Spritz QD (for after waxing)

As Middo says, when you first buy the stuff you think s**t I've spent a fair bit but then once you've got a good range of products they last for ages and are well worth it for the results

Also doing mates cars on the side for a bit of money helps to recover money spent on a DA etc.

I have applied a layer of jeffs on my car about 5 days ago now, looks really crisp and it is STILL beading really really well.

And of course my dad's colt which had 3 layers of egp and 2 of 476s. Which i dont know when will stop beading lol.

I THINK I am happy with Zaino now though, but have a constant niggle to try BoS...

Same with me...I'm more than happy with Zaino.

I now only will need to buy general purpose stuff....APC, MFs, etc. Also tyre, dash and bumper dressing, but these last ages so not something I need to buy every month.

I've got my spending underr control now though, and I only buy necessary things that I need.

I personally dont think there is anything wrong with giving your car a really good clean once in a while, but alot of the products out there are just plain pointless.
I've given my car a really good clean over the last two days, used meguiars 3 step thingy with a paint cleaner, polish and wax and I cant tell the difference between the three. They all seem to do the same thing and leave the same finish, and ultimately are never going to get rid of all the stone chips on my front end no matter how much I use them!
While the meguiars wheel cleener works well on dirty wheels that havent been cleaned in ages, if you wash them properly every week with regular shampoo, you dont need it!
The other thing that winds me up is that you can spend a whole two days cleaning the car getting it really clean, and you only have to drive a couple miles and the front end is covered in bugs and loads of other s**t.
