lol, i was introduced to it by M4rkie23. this is a general section isnt it? not just about Clios...

main reason for not having a membership is the fact that the rest of the forum is useless to me

Mondeo 220 does 60 in 7.2, carries a bit of a weight deficit compared to the clio so not sure how it would go.

Track work i think the 182 would hump it tbh

I've seen figures of 6.8 but either way it would be closer than close.

watch the language chap, thats his opinion he is entightled to it

iv had 2 st24's and they were both caracking cars, bit heavy on fuel, and a b**ch to work on (try doing a water pump!) but handled bloody well for a big car, and could sit at 140 all day without a squeak or without complaining

Sorry but that is not true. I had a good run with one up to 130 beans on the clock on a private runway once and there was nothing in it when I was behind it or when he was behind me.

I was very surprised at how similar they were tbh.

that my friend is b****cks. I had cheeky blast with one from 2nd up to a ton odd and i comfortably chipped past him, he was fookin rageing as i think he thought after overtaking me that was the last he'd see of me.

but as you say, totally different motors, just depends what your after

I have no reason to lie. I couldn't really give two s***s what's quicker than my car or what I'm quicker than. All I can tell you is that a car that has a LOWER bhp/ton ratio than that of ANY Renaultsport Clio will most certainly NOT be humping it, and will need some silly speeds and a lot of road to pull away.

EDIT - I think the ST220 is a superb car btw. If I needed something bigger I'd definitely consider one.

Have you seen how quick and capable st220's are?

The extra 350+ kgs is hard to contain...on a road that isn't full of mile long straights little would seperate standard cars. My Zetec-S would have been humped.

It wasn't long ago when I thought a RX8 231 would be quicker than a 1*2 and got told other wise so an ST220.....

I had a mint Mondeo ST220 with every toy on it......WHY WHY did I sell it and get a Clio 182. The Mondeo was awesome and didnt make a sound. The Clio rattles like hell and is not as comfy with the cup suspension...I may have to change back!!!!! BUGGER

Maybe this is the reason its cheap and you got a "friday afternoon car"?? I got mine around a similar time as you and am very happy with it. Yeah, its got the odd rattle but no worse then my old mk4 Golf.

Also agree that you can't compare it too a Mondeo. Mondeo ST= mile muncher/ reps car. 172/ 182= back road fun.

They are completely different cars in many ways. Don't doubt how good a drivers car the Mondeo is though. Once rolling they will pull on a lot of cars and third gear pull is impressive! And the soundtrack is awesome.

Clios handling are amazing in my experience but my ST220 holds the road like you wouldn't beleive. It feels a lot more sure footed and steady.

Speed wise in my experience the clio will stick to 60 and maybe even edge it then the Mondeo will start pulling, and pulling, and pulling. I'm not saying it will hump it but once rolling it definately is quicker in my opinion. But its swings and roundabouts because the clio will undoubtably be quicker round tight twisty roads.

I guess I'm biased given what I own but thats my opinion.

Really? My 2005 182 doesn't rattle at all. Perhaps they get worse over time but I think it's a bit unfair to say they rattle like s**t isn't it?

Yeah I got it cheap. There is nothing wrong with. It's just the poor French build quality!!! It is fun to drive, I just guess I miss the Mondeo as my work travel is down the M4! The 182 is a good car and handles well but then so did the Mondeo!

But you probably got it to save money right? If you did then you have a car with all the performance (although in a different way) that you had but cheaper to run.

The only way to do that is to get a smaller lighter car which you did and unfortunately because of that you loose some of the standards. Still it ain't that bad and the fun times more than make up for it:approve:
