Will I make it??? Advice needed!!!

  Cup 172
Hi,
In my new shape 1.6 Clio courtesy car. Picked it up yesterday and stuck a fiver of unleaded in.
The dealership is about 20 miles from here (90% motorway) and the range has just dropped to the dashes (under 40 miles) as I pulled into the car park. Light came on about 3 miles ago.

According to the range I have 20 miles to go and 39 miles of petty...

How accurate are these things? Will I make it or come to a halt by the side of the A1???

Opinions?

Ta,
Phil.

well, from my needle BELOW the red resting on the pin and after having had teh red light on for quite a while, i put a fiver in and drove 50 miles.

well i've had at least 20 miles out of teh car when its stayed in the red and i'm told you can get up to 35.

If you stay below 2k rpm, and coast whenever you can (i know this is dangarous) then i think you would make it no problem.

I know it sounds stupid but for the sake of putting another £5er in it, it saves breaking down on the motorway.

Its actually an offence to join a motorway knowing you might not have enough fuel to finish your journey.. saw it on TV once.

I picked up a courtesy car the other week which had the fuel light on, I then drove it to work and back to the garage later. On the way back I got stuck in traffic, and had no idea how much fuel was left. I made it back okay though, and it made for an exciting journey!

I once had a fiesta mat and even when the gauge said it was above minimum it coughed, spluttered and died. Had a long walk for juice.

I'm just cautious. Its a real shitter breakinig down on the motorway.

I faced a similar problem when driving my c2 vtr through to the dealer last weekend when collecting my 172. 59 miles of fuel remaining with a 50 mile journey ahead. Unfortunately the predicted miles remaining dropped sharply soon after I joined the motorway. I made it but I doubt the car had much more to give :D
