Xbox Series X|S - OFFICIAL News!

Played a bit of the Tetris game that's on Game Pass.. quite enjoyable. Needs better speakers but it looks stunning on the new TV

I am awful at Tetris though :ROFLMAO:

Wifi. Xbox says my NAT type is open, but on Cod it says moderate.
My NAT is at moderate on COD 100% of the time. Doesn't cause lag having a moderate NAT. Its more to do with who you can connect with.

Its probably just COD servers being COD servers ie. sh!t3

Mine used to but as I say above, you can open some extra ports to get it to f**k off !

For reference, Ive gone from a One X to a Series X. They're both 4K and both enter HDR mode (Although, @DeeKay86 has mentioned the one x perhaps isnt actually HDR?)

Either way I can confirm: Yes, there is a marginal difference on the current COD. You do have to be a total nerd (like us) to notice maybe!

Excited to try properly optimised games for this now!

Just want to clarify - I have never said the One X is not HDR. The One X supports HDR10 and even Dolby Vision.

The only difference now is that the Series X and S both will have Games in Dolby Vision and Atmos - the only next gen consoles to do so according to Dolby. :)

My internet has gone to s**t on the new Xbox playing cod.. constantly lagging, getting the poor connection sign on the screen. Any ideas?

I’d put it down to the network being f**ked for launch day. Try this evening and hopefully its fine.

If you're on 'New Settings', should be under Settings > Advanced Features > Advanced Gateway Settings > Create New Port Forwarding
On my Dream Machine website or through the App? I cannot find a menu ladder like you stated.

At last, time to set it up and to see how the finalised product stands up to the prototpye and devkit versions I was working on 16 months ago... ;):p

Considering the hardware components and punch it packs, it's a dinky little thing and slots nicely into the corner of the room. Hardly notice it's there to be honest... (excuse the mess) :ROFLMAO:

I might be getting on a bit now, but I still loves me a bit of gamin' when I get chance. I've also said it before but if you love platformers then play Ori and The Will of The Wisps. 'Tis a thing of beauty, especially at 6k (downsampled)/60fps or 4k/120fps and with Dolby Atmos audio. (y)

Thanks mate. YES! Absolutely make some time for Ori if you can (and, of course, assuming you enjoy platformers). Both Blind Forest and Will of the Wisps are two of my favourite platform games ever; the experience of the visuals, audio and story - married to the old-skool platform vibe - just had me hooked from the off.

No, I don't work for Microsoft (although I was one of the first developers to work on the original Xbox back in the day - I was working in the games industry at the time). I worked at various game dev studios and have worked with Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, etc. at various points (along with nVidia, too). Happy days. I now have my own software development business but still specialise in 3D graphics technology and high-performance systems - hence I get contracts to help out now and again on game engines, developing new tech, rendering software and pipelines and similar. (y) On occasions it means I get to play with new and/or developmental tech. Despite only launching yesterday the Series X (and it's tech) had been in discussion for many, many years prior (as you'll probably no doubt be aware, given how much research / development time and investment these gaming platforms require).

Excuse the mess? That's not bloody messy 😂
What you can't see is the pile of ironing behind me and the dirty dinner plates / mugs that are on the floor behind the far sofa! :ROFLMAO: I'm just a big kid (still) and was too excited to faff around clearing up! I just wanted to switch the bloody thing on.

It’s funny, speaking to some guys I work with (we’re all late 20s), and we all remarked how console launches have the unique ability to turn everyone into a kid.
With the launch of the Xbox, iPhones and PlayStation in the space of a few weeks, everyone’s getting some lockdown unboxing therapy.

Wow thank you for the response, that was actually super interesting!!

You sound like a seasoned vet in the gaming world! Pretty amazing that you worked on a game for the original Xbox. I loved that console (it changed my life - seriously lol - cringe I know!). Have you made anything I may have played?

Enjoy your new Series X. I am absolutely loving it so far!

Exactly mate - you're never too old when it comes to gaming (in my opinion). I fired up my 1977 Atari VCS 2600 last Saturday and it still works. Just. Things have moved on so much yet I still get as excited and thrilled now as I did yesteryear. Even working with the tech / games from a development perspective doesn't dampen my enthusiasm for it. Long may it continue. (y) I just wish I could find some time. My current contracts require me to work / commute hence I'm yet to have a single day off! (I am, of course, grateful I still have the opportunity to work when many are struggling through right now). :)

No problem, fella. :)

I've been coding for a fair few years now, yes. Hahahaha! I've been fortunate to work on a few games (although I always tended to work on the tech and engines that underpinned the games rather than the games themselves - if that makes sense?) Back in the days of the original Xbox I was mainly working with Microsoft pre-release of the console to iron-out bugs in their APIs (from the DirectX libraries, to messaging, to dashboard, to achievements and interactions with their Live! service, etc.) In terms of games for Xbox I worked on porting Crazy Taxi 3 to that platform LOL! I was also responsible for doing the PC version of Crazy Taxi - sorry about that! That was fun - code and comments in Japanese and all proprietary code removed. Hence I had to write a 3D graphics and physics engine with a couple of colleagues to emulate the Dreamcast and Arcade version and to make it work (on PC) in an identical way. Tricky, but fun. Especially given the time constraints! More recently I've been helping out with things like the Frostbite engine and similar - so there may well be one or two games out there that have had my input in some way or another! :p

Likewise - enjoy the Series X too! (I know you will!)

Not a single sofa in contact with a wall. You sir, are winning.

Ah man Crazy Taxi! The good old says! I loved the Dreamcast version and I have also played the Xbox version lol. Great fun games! Man you wrote a 3D physics engine? Thats pretty insane. I’ve been dabbling with Python a little (and I mean very little), its kinda mind blowing! I bet you had some crazy instances when trying to emulate the physics of the Dreamcast version where the cars would just do insane things lol.

Have you seen a show on Netflix called “High Score”? If not, I genuinely recommend it to anyone who is in to gaming, or works in the gaming industry. I’d love to work in the gaming world one day lol!

Oh and the Frostbite engine is pretty immense btw, good job sir!!

LOL!

For the background, in case anyone whos bought one didnt get EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEIR FRIENDS sending them it. There was a video going around yesterday of a heavily smoking Series X and people thought that somehow was real... honestly looked like a smoke machine.

Yeah the people that actually believed it was anything other than some silly c***s with a vape machine have never had any modern electronics go pop near them.. looks nothing like that :ROFLMAO:

I've filled my Series X internal drive already. It's quite easy when titles like Quantum Break take up 159GB, Read Dead 2 takes up 105GB, etc... Yes, I do have an external SSD hooked-up but I want it all on the shiny new internal drive! :ROFLMAO:

LOL! I have put a few games on it that don’t need to be on it! I have a 4TB external drive attached and I have it at 3TB full so far lol!
