Joes BG182 Money Pit..

Been on this forum for a while, as a few of you may know I turned my completely standard first ever car 1.4 Black Dynamique into a full 182 replica, everyone who has done this regards theirs as the best replica, Although Knuckles' 1.4 replica is probably the original best! However i think ive done a decent job with it, this is how as stands at the moment..

Huge laundry list of OEM mods have gone onto this car! Bought on 32K miles and now its still only on 51K
Even the interior has completely been changed, steering wheel, front and back seats, Silver carbon dash trims and Original RS mats.
This car has been my pride and joy for the last almost 3 years now.

Full write up and project thread of my progress of the car can be found here
http://www.cliosport.net/threads/joes-1-4-16v-clio-sport-replica-pic-heavy.700938/

Around a year ago i couldnt stop my itch to go and finally see what a "Real" 182 is like, one popped up locally to me, Arctic Blue on 77K, test drove it, couldnt contain my excitement and bought it almost instantly, to this day i dont know what was on this car but its pulled a lot more than other 182s ive drove? Maybe a remap? Anyway here it is/was..

Had a Miltec and Decat that came with the car, possibly the loudest car ive been in.
Due to my innner excitement and buying and asking questions later.. i had to sell the car not even a week later, it lasted 6 days. Insurace tripled even with 2 years no claims and me being only 21/22 at the time.. tax was almost due and i didnt have enough money to fill the tank so it drank every penny i scraped to put into it within 24 hours.

Lesson learned.

So i saved up again, waiting on my 3 years no claims this October 13th 2015, and i turn 24 in July this year too so it will cost me 3pound more than what im paying on my 1.4 to insure. Tax i already know of and ive learnt to not be so heavy footed and be prepared to keep on constantly filling another 182.

A year passed, saved up around 2,000. My list had to be.. a 182, Lowish mileage and in black. Belts i would change instantly, and any extra tasteful mods would be a bonus.
Saw a BG182 in leeds before my new one, looked great on the pics! Turinis etc. Got there after a almost 2 hour drive to find it completely in a sorry state, everything needed respraying, non standard flacid flapping about stupid cone induction kit, exhaust that gave you a headache just driving normally in, "i changed the belts myself and oiled it myself" chap, no history/paperwork and i almost paid 1,700 for it too! I wouldve hated my life if i did buy it. My friend dragged me away and said no. Hero.

2 Days later i find an ebay ad for a decent looking BG182 again, tasteful mods, belts changed with proof, looked the real deal! so my friend took me 2 hours again down to peterborough. Instantly seeing it we looked at each other and knew this was more than likely the one!

didnt even want to test drive it i knew it was greatly kept! Owners brother is a Renault specialist for around 14 years, bonus! stacks of paperwork, only just ticked over to 77K, immaculate body work/paint and interior! so i bought it. Awesome guys by the way, great genuine people who love their cars and maintaining them. Credit to you guys if youre reading this.

Here is my new money pit..

77K Miles
Last Serviced (properly) at 76K
Stacks upon stacks of Receipts and History.
197 Steering Wheel bought brand new from the guys brother, all wired in properly so working CC and SpeedLimiter.
Belts changed at 64K 2012 By Fred at BTMPerformace with proof :) (bonus!)
Genuine Airbox with uprated panel filter.
Ktec Coilovers (Sitting stupidly low when bought) Original Suspension included.
Genuine Yozza Cat-back exhaust (its not that loud what are people complaining about? haha)

Best of all. Only 2,000pound! This really does seem to be a great example! Over the moon.

Old Vs. New (1.4 needs cleaning to compare properly)

This is how low it sits, heres my "speed bump" on the driveway..

FB8FBF43-F58C-44C6-B561-966CDCE8D5FC.jpg

Unfortunately Nottingham is not as nice as Peterborough (well the place we picked up the 182 was nice) and im going to have to raise it slightly so i dont tear off the front end and damage the radiator etc with Nottinghams finest council roads and speed bumps.

As i said i get 3 years no claims this October 15', and i turn 24 July 11th 15' (Writing this post as of 8/6/15) so until these dates past im SORNing the car and storing it until these dates pass! Meanwhile i still have the 1.4 and it gives me more time to save for the things i want to do! So far the Short term list (First ever things to do to it) stands as this:

- Drilled and Grooved front brake discs.
- EBC Red stuff pads
- Genuine check over from a Renault mechanic family friend.
- ???
- ???

Want to get the internal health checks and upgrades for safety and handling/breaking etc out the way first before i start on non pratical visual upgrades. Any advice on what to do would be great!
As for the visual mods when money allows i have the following planned (before i even bought the car)

Cup Turninis in white, black inner diamond and black "speedline corse" decals on the side of the rims. OCD much?
Black out front and rear diamond.
Bullets in white with black "2.0 16v" lettering.
Satin black spray front grilles and fog light surrounds.
Trophy replica spoiler just like Dans on his Arctic (been reading (; ) or if funds allow/even if one pops up, a actual trophy/V6 spoiler.
Team Hekos,
Once all the above is complete i'll then decide whether tints would benefit the car, tints suit black cars no matter what but this car as it stands at the moment looks awesome without them. We'll see in time!

Thanks for reading my life story.
This will be a slow progress/update thread.

Thanks for the replies, Defo seems like a great buy so far, especially for the money.
We'll see how things go in time, granted its 10 years old now, im expecting things to randomly go and need replacing.

Just got a couple of Steering wheel/interior shots of it, amazingly kept.
My non clio enthusiast friends and family that have seen it so far keep on mentioning how they love the steering wheel. i wasnt sold on the idea of a 197 one being on to begin with but once seeing it, its a massive improvement to the older fake leather tearing thumb grip ones!

Most people take away and replace air fresheners from used cars but im keeping these two, they just seem part of the car for some reason.

  Skoda Fabia VRS
Another Joe, another BG, another money pit.
Looks great buddy, and seems a steal at that price! Looking forward to seeing some updates on this, my plans will probably be mostly the same as yours I would presume. Just upgrading little bits and bobs, and restoring anything that needs doing ie; rear numberplate light, giving the headlights a refurb.

Nice to meet you Joe (; haha, I'll check your project out too! Be interesting how we go along and get some ideas off each other.

Can anyone recommend me what Powerflex parts to go for? Remember reading good reviews and recommendations of them, things like lower engine mounts and?

Couple of minor updates, bought a new toy for the car. In the form of a snow foam attatchment for the pressure washer..

5147488A-581C-47DA-8EBF-7164FA8271EC.jpg

More than likely seen how this works before, awesome bit of kit, not one sponge in sight and it seem to have took away all of the dirt on the car, no after photos unfortunately, more so just wanted to test the snow foam out than wash the car.

Thought i'd tackle the huge exhaust tips on this thing, good old Autosol, only thing ive ever used to bring up everything sparkling again.
Some before shots..

Emissions light popped up recently too, took it to the family ren specialist. He plugged it in and found it out to be a top Lambda sensor, he'll try swapping them around before ordering in the appropriate part for it. As for now the lights been turned off. Wont be moving much anyway!

Next on the things to buy are;
Drilled and Grooved front Ktec discs along with EBC red stuff pads.
also if funds are available a poweflex dog bone mount.

Couple of new updates, firstly bought and fitted some new bright LED sidelights as the car came with none. I know some people just like to rock the xenons but I prefer them with sidelights..

Photos defo make them look brighter. They are pretty damn bright though in person :)

Next up I debadged the rear RS badge, won't stay debadged as I'm wanting eventually the newer 197 style badge. Very sheepish I know but I've seen some damn good OEM simple tasteful mods on other cars on here.

Took a lot of scrubbing and using AutoGlym tar and grease remover (also excellent on tree sap) finally polished up with some T-Cut.

Painted the front grille satin black and fitted.

Also recent money spending spree and picked these up this morning.

Need refurbing but that's what I wanted as it gives me a choice of what colour to go for, originally wanted white to stand out but also needed to change the badge colours white so Mhm? Then everyone convinced me they'll look smart on anthracite which they do but nearly all black clios use this colour. So after decisions with my brother we both decided a bright mettalic silver would be the dogs nuts for it, make the car look blacker and cleaner smarter wheels here's one lined up against the replica 1.4, refurbed in a brighter metallic silver would be awesome. they'll be going on the 182 eventually after refurb and time etc.

That's it for the moment. Looking at front and rear drilled& grooved brembo discs and pads for the next payday.

Couple of new but tiny updates, first off after I bought the LED sidelights ive also bought and fitted a new rear number plate LED as the older one was just a original dull yellow bulb. The housing looks new so no need to change that. Here's some night shots..

It as actually that bright too, not sure one which LED I bought but I'm sure it's a 20 led one. Barely fitted I know that much.

Next up I tackled the seatbelts, started off with a bucket and nail brush but it took forever, here's before;

I'll possibly get round to doing the rears one day soon. Maybe.

I've also bought all LED interior bulbs, only received the map light ones at the moment, these in my opinion are too blue? I've bought another set waiting on delivery apparently/hopefully pure white. Anyway here's the "white with blue tint 6000K imitation LED"

They are really bright but like I said, too blue. I'll see what the other ones are like once they turn up.

Meanwhile I have borrowed my brothers buffer..

357CD34A-8DF1-4C0C-ABE8-73D2A2C52954.jpg

only doing a panel a day at the moment as time is short! Here's what I managed with the bonnet. (Using normal T-Cut as the compound);

Looking like glass at the moment.
V5 arrived today too and now SORNd the car until octoberish.

Next updates should be my LED interior changes and more buffing results.

More updates. First up i ordered a windscreen wiper removal tool as due to past experience with my 1.4 thread i could NOT get them off, eventually used a crowbar and cracked my windscreen.. and still didnt get them off. Needless to say WD40 and this 3squid tool off ebay did the trick!

Removed all wipers for when i get a "back to black" permanent dye kit early next week. Now i can clean and apply the dye to the scuttle panels properly with them off!

Next up more buffing shots! My iphone camera and the sun dont go very well together and tbh the pics look shocking. However in the flesh this thing is a jet black mirror. with obvious Gold dust caught in certain lights (; which not surprisingly the iphone cant pick up. Awesome.

1AE8DC3E-203B-4067-9491-1930F04E1F86.jpg

The car is really low on the front as you can see, it looks like i have a tractor arch gap stance because the tyres are too small, well theyre 195s instead of 205s, a 205 against this wouldnt fit in the gap as youll see in a sec.

For a 10 year old car the condition of the bodywork and paint on this particular one is amazing, immediately before i barely saw it in the flesh me and my friend looked at each other thinking "This is awesomely kept" and it is. However the rear bumper has patches that suck, so in my OCD eyes i think it needs repainting, but other than the bumper and it being 10 years old its in really good condition!

D0F04C9B-85F2-4974-B56F-A00865D263C8.jpg

Rear bumper strip missing because again, waiting on the back to black dye kit to arrive and get them all dyed .. back to black! :)

Also got my manly Vanish cleaning kit out and did some scrubbing with a few bits of the car, smells fresh, cleans fresh and looks fresh! heres a few in action, did the boot and parcel shelf:

After that, the new "Pure white LED" interior bulbs arrived, compared to my last post with the blue tint i wanted a fresh ice white, not blue, so i got to it;

New bulbs;

Waited till it got dark and took some night photos, and yep, these things are ice white bright, so bright it feels like its daylight when theyre on. Worthy upgrade, not bad for 1.99 either. Also with the blue tint ones, whilst driving they were still on, but very dim, something apparently common when changing to LEDS, these new white ones dont do that, whilst ignition on, on fully or off! Bonus :)

Before all of this ive masked out the headlights ready for tomorrows heatwave so i'll refurb the headlights tomorrow whilst i still have my brothers buffer and borrowed some sandpaper. it'll be the third set of headlights ive "Restored" on a clio now.

BB508BEA-E37F-4C96-A9B7-BC1CC6091905.jpg

Also took another side shot whilst the sun has disappeared, still some shoddy iphone pics.

and now for a turini shot.. these are on 205s, and also bear in mind theyre not even mounted onto the car, unless its just being stupid i dont think 205s would fit, or fit properly on this stance?

97DA1EA8-8CA1-4AD1-A64E-BDAD6EF890C9.jpg

Next updates should be refurbed headlights and anymore LED interior bits that decide to turn up to my house.

  Clio 182
Looks good mate. Im running coils and 205 tyres on my Turinis.
Unless your stupid low (which on your standard 16s you can't be) you'll be fine

Looking really good

Thanks man, in time ill make it more my own rather than just pure OEM. Even though "my" plans are just OEM mods done many a time before haha.

Awesome i was hoping to keep this height and the two 205s on the turinis as spares haha (Continentals with near new tread too so defo want to keep!)

Yeah should be fine, I am low, low as I can go in 16's but I've done the 'bumper mod' so I don't scrub! You may need to raise it slightly with new tyres!

Have you took the front side arch liners out? i asked this when i bought the car as they were missing, was told they scrub/catch the lower the car goes so off they came. This sound right/necessary? Noob questions as i bought the car on coilovers and have little knowledge otherwise haha!

Arch liners can go but I wouldn't advise it. I've cut the metal bracket behind the arch line and plastic bracket on the bumper so it doesn't scrub. My bumpers being held on by screws only now, seems okay to me though ahah

Couple of boring/mildly interesting updates, in no other form than refurbed (almost) headlights and 4D carbon vinyl wrap, ill start off with the headlights as thats where i was last.. Im sure everyones seen how these headlights get, mine wasnt THAT bad, bad enough for me to want to do them though.

i used:
Bucket, cold water.
1500 sandpaper for the main part.
P2000 sandpaper for the after part.
T-Cut and buffer x20 times to buff back up, still hazed to me so i'll keep on buffing them but you get the idea.

Heres how it started and how it ended up;

1F60E378-CCBF-48D6-ABB5-C93298312741.jpg

Heres the awesome mess i was making after i buffed up the whole car -.-

aaannnnd heres how theyve ended up. Like i said im still not happy with the finish so im yet to carry on buffing them up until theyre crystal in my eyes;

(again only iPhone camera pics, camera cant pick up the fine grain/haze still in the lights. More buffing!)

In other news, i bought "12inx60x roll of 4D carbon fibre vinyl with gloss" thing, roll, whatever. Clearance sale so all of that for the ultimate price of.. 4quid! Nice. Here it is:

Never carbon wrapped anything before, cant be that hard as all i need is scissors, pen, scalpel blade and a hairdryer :) anyway heres my first attempt;

Wasnt happy with that one so ripped it off and started again, no photo but its much better, smoother with no bubbles.

Went to take off the other dash strip and found the cleanest underneath, mhmmmmm;

Oh also i put in the steel plate foot rest ^

a while back i ordered a couple of decals from Ady182 on here, including the air bag one as i knew i wanted to do/try this. Here it is now:

Those are the only 2 things i want to carbon wrap, nothing else, gear center section matches the RS insert on the 197 wheel and then these 2 match each other. Only one more thin i want to wrap and thats the center section on the dials, not the rings round the speedos but the center section. Would complete/tie in everything together better. Maybe in the not so distant future.

Couple of goodies arrived this morning, first off at the ass crack of dawn with this box;

Safe to say i wont be going anywhere else for brakes in the future other than george, credit where its due!

Wont be putting them on until the cars on the road, not too long now but cars not moving much other than round the garden so no rush.

Also i got the battery cover delivered, bought off ebay but i know the guy trades on here also, cant remember the name!

All it needs now is some personal touch stickers! nothing stupid, it wont be sticker bombed, just subtle relevant stuff. Thinking about stickers i do have a pedo bear one somewhere haha. Joke. thats not going on.

Pointless update but still part of the progress thread none the less. Got my permanent trim restorer;

To tackle these sorry looking items;

Which started to look like this (50/50);

Then ended up looking like this:

And wing mirror surrounds.

I'll update this in the future and see how it's all holding up.

Meanwhile exhaust was peeing out water/fuel. For me to then find a crack of some sort underneath;

So now this has thrown my plans of future SORNing and storing out the window. As now I'll have to tax and insure it earlier than intented to get it booked in with my local exhaust fabricator to sort out that ^ and to possibly cut off my exhaust tips and replace with 4" slash cut rolled ones as these standard Yozza ones aren't doing it for me.

Awesome progress mate. Really enjoyed looking through this. Be interesting to see how that trim restorer holds up as I'm currently applying af revive every other month.

Thanks dude :) and we shall see! My brother told me about the stuff after he shown what it done on his van, his jet black trims I thought were standard black (they were grey) was redyed using that stuff ^ thing that got me was he applied it over a year ago and it's still going strong. We'll see how it tests the time on Clio trims

Few goodies to show; first up a birthday present from my dad :)

Some team hekos (Pratical as well as suiting imo)

Also the newer 197 style badge has arrived but leaving it to my brother to put on as he's more experienced with this stuff, don't want to bodge this up and pay another £36 -.-

Also received a 30ml panel pot to test out, I'll try it soon.

That'll add to my ever growing noob detailing section of the garage:

Updates :)

Got the 197 style badge on today, now the "Clio" badge looks a mess compared to it so I'm going to have to find and buy a new one.

Either way I like it, i loved the size of the old one but the fact you could buy it in halfords.. Had to go!

Also had this for a while but finally put it on today, suits the black car awesomely imo!

and that's it for the moment. Got a few more plans to make the rear look better but only in due time!

Not to everyone's taste but it's going to sit well with my eventual black and "subtle" yellow set up for the car :)

Absolute pig to transfer due to the tiny and massive amounts of lettering. But got there.

Not false advertising as I have K-tec coilovers on and wanting eventually solid top mounts so (;

BMC sticker needs to come off now.

Nice progress pal! I used to use Dojo Juice on my old BG, providing you've done a good pre wax prep you'll absolutely love that stuff! It makes your paint look wet it's that shiny

Thanks man :) I've recently bought dodo juice lime prime pre wax and poor boys liquid nattys blue wax. I'm after a proper wet glossy look so I'll see how all that turns out.. But need a better camera other than iPhone first

In other news I bought a V6 airbox today from James breaking his PH1 (unfortunately. It looked clean!)

So this is now on my to do list which will all happen at once later down the line when I start driving it.

Came with a pre fitted K&N. I'll clean it up and probably subtle decal it too at some point :)

Haha yeah dude! Can't beat abit of spending. Think about it after (;

Unfortunately for me though it's all spend and no play. Barely have time to fit half these things. Basically spending it as quick as I earn it. Not driving it yet either. Waiting til the 3 years NCB rolls up in October! Pointless insuring and taxing now if I'll save £££ by waiting a couple of month for prices to come down.

Ported and Matched upper and lower inlets and Enlarged throttle body on the purchase list for next week :)

Yeah i know what you mean mate haha, always regret it after i buy something 😂. How much are the insurance quotes your getting if you dont mind me asking? I found mine pretty reasonable for 18 with 1yncb but i expect it to be really expensive compared to yours haha. I agree tho, makes sense to wait. I didnt and got all impatient after i bought the car and went to tax the car for 6 months, 2 days before the end of the month meaning i pretty much paid a months tax for 2 days haha. Ahh well was worth it :wink:

Plus, pretty sure i've heard the enlarged throttle bodys are pointless and make no difference, sure i heard someone say your better off flushing your money down the toilet haha. Maybe worth doing some research into them first

Cheapest I found on moneysupermarket was around £770 a year with admiral. However I'm going to give Greenlight a go and see what they offer, I PMd Neil on here last night about it actually, providing i do under 5K a year (easy) as a really rough estimate probably around £550-£650 a year. I'll get a proper quote when my 3years has come round.

And good call! Done a little research and seems it is pointless, still wondering though hahaha, even for a placebo effect I'll be happy.

You got a project thread going off? Tried looking but couldn't find anything yet.

not a bad price tbf, im paying £1300 but with a box :unamused:. I heard brentacre are pretty good with modifications as well as being quite competitive, was gonna use them this year but you need to be 19.

Spend the money on something else :wink:, or anything else haha. Yeah i started my project thread, its pretty tiny though as i have only done small things which arent really worth an update. Will find it for you in a sec, that reminds me though i do have a few things i need to update in it

found it - http://www.cliosport.net/threads/lukes-arctic-blue-182.777795/

Another pointless slow update but because *cough* race car *cough* ..

I like it :) plus it's only a sticker and can be removed before people start to hate. Fits well with what the car generally is.

Cars also filthy and been neglected sat in the back yard for so long that the battery is now dead :blush: so off for a charge. It'll die again in a month don't know why I'm charging it tbh. Charging in action:

Meanwhile payday this Friday so..

Ported and matched inlets with pointless-ish enlarged TB. But they'll also be shot blasted and painted properly in a close to Liquid Yellow colour along with the fuel rail guard too.

Full set of Hel braided brake lines in yellow.

And ???

Wanting this thing on a rolling road too to see what it's producing with Yozza cat back, Matched inlets, englarged TB and V6 airbox with K&N.

Anything over 175bhp I'll be happy.

Long distance this time next year plans/dreams I have this moment for the car are 438 Cams and recaros. We'll see. Money pit!
