K20 powered 172

Right, collecting my engine tomorrow night :)
It's had a new Dephaser pulley and full cambelt replacement along with special timing dialled in :)

Actually looking forward to getting it back and planing on doing abit of work on the car tonight.

Might just be getting the bug back.

Got a lot to do and there's a few parts I still believe I need :)

Engine is back home from its little tweaking.

Just been tinkering ready to get it back in.

Steering rack in looped and blocked off, I've also blocked off the hole in the bulkhead where the heater pipes pass through with a piece of carbon.

Need to fitted me power flex rack bushes and sort my alternator setup out. Waiting on Renault dealer in Milton Keynes to deliver me my crank bolts and heat shield that I ordered next week on VOR lol

Anymore updates on this?
Not really. Finally got my parts from Renault so can start finialising stuff for the engine to go back in. Need to fill the rack boot with grease, change the rack bushes, fit flywheel clutch and box and finish my alternator setup then swing inter lump in. Need to get on with it as my mate wants hell to take his supra engine out and build up, so need to get my in to use the crane and stand for his lol.

Need to sell my ITG aswell.

Started today off pretty well,

Changed the steering rack bushes for me black powerflex set. Took a little while as my 17mm socket fell into the subframe 😧

Old bushes

Then dragged my engine out the other garage and started putting it together

Torqued the flywheel and clutch up

Then put the alternator, water pump, pms engine mount and new timing cover on.

I then grabbed the gearbox to chuck on when it started raining so packed up. Good thing tho engine is almost ready to sling in the bay.

Not done much to the Clio till tonight.
Had a massive tidy up around the car and carried on getting the engine ready to put back in.
Finished the alternator mounting and figured out the belt I needed. Need to get a new mounting bolt that goes through the alternator as its too long.
I also dug out my QuaffieLSD box and mated it to the engine finally, also lobbed the starter motor on.
Couple of pics

water pump will turn backwards like that and may walk the belt off the pulley as it doesn't have the groves for the ribs on the belt to run in,
@NorthloopCup what do you reckon?
Was just typing the same thing, refreshed the page to see if someone had beaten me to it, and you had lol. Belt needs to go under the water pump????

Engine went back in today

Before it did tho I gave the engine bay a good clean

Fitted the 1.2 heat shield with new nuts aswell.

Next was to address the alternator setup. I took a chance and order the PMS lightweight pulley kit with PAS delete kit a little while ago with the idea of getting it to work.
Well, it don't and I got fed up of faffing around with it, I even got a non-cup alternator to try. In the end all I used was the 4 ribbed pulleys and the PAS delete kit
with the standard CUP setup.

Just need to get a belt for it when I'm back at work. Pretty happy with it tho even costing me a fair packet for some pulleys. Could try sell the rest of it I guess.

Engine slung back in.

Still got loads to do, waiting on PMS and their catch can setup to be finalised, need to make a mount for the ECU, replace the front wheel bearings, get a slimline fan, plum the coolant system in and finish the rest of the jobs left over from fitting the engine like the loom and shafts etc.

Can you not just run a shorter belt and not run the pas delete pulley mate? That's what I'm doing on my cup brackets. Good progress too, the bay looks to of come up really well after the clean!

Thanks mate, the bay was proper filthy lol

I tried it with out the PAS delete kit but it look like the belt would catch the water pump (hard to explain) but it would run round the top of crank pulley and under the water pump, then the belt that run off them bottom off the crank pulley up to the alternator would be catching the water pump / belt again.

That make sense? Lol are you actually running that setup you mentioned lol?

Mine was the same mate, years worth of dirt then only get a prompt chance to clean when the engine is out, I'm not sure if there's a picture in my build thread but your description does make sense yeh, yeh I've rand this setup since I went epas last year but on standard pulleys not the pms ones

I tried that but with the PMS pulleys the inner ribs are deeper compared to the out lip, so I couldn't get a belt that would stretch over the outer lip and then get good tension on the belt.
Is that a cup alternator Tom?

On Christmas Eve I decided to bolt the RS2 inlet on to give me an idea of what else needed to be done.

Was only planing to actually put the manifold on but got carried away and put the hole kit on.

Placed the radiator in place to check clearance on the throttle body which was far to close. Now I know why everyone seems to run the throttle body upside down with the RS2.

So pulled the rad back out and chucked the supplied airfilter on and immediately decided I hated it and it wouldn't be staying on.

Yesterday was the first day I got time in the garage so I made a start on adapting the wiring for the RS2. With the MAP, Air Temp, Throttle body, Igniton Coil and injector plugs all being in slightly different locations I wanted the loom to sit just right. I also didn't want to cut and join or lengthen any plugs at all. So I started by connecting the rest of the loom eg starter motor, lambdas etc, taped the plugs I needed to sort in blue electrical tape and then pulled all the tape and tubing off the rest.

I didn't take many pictures of the strip down as there's 3 main wiring harness that I did. Alternator, injector and throttle body harnesses.

Taped in blue

And then tidied up and retaped.

Need to sort the ecu side out today and coolant system

Hope everyone had a good Christmas.

Managed a few hours yesterday on the Clio.

Firstly I move the main section of loom underneath the gear box mounting.

Thought it would be easy but was a right pain in the arse.

I then cleaned all my forge coolant hoses and push fitted them to make sure they all fitted nicely.

This also allowed me to see where I could mount the ecu, need to get some rubber mountings so it doesn't vibrate on the body.
I now have a decent idea on what filter set I can run.
I've got a fairly big cone GreenCotton air filter left over from my Ibiza iirc (I ordered the wrong size by mistake) so may use that or I may get an enclosed ITG filter and run a similar set to the Honda Civic Type Rs.
Can't make my mind up, anyone got any ideas?

Least it's looking more like a car now

Scuttle induction is what I was going to run when I had an rs2 mate.
I was going to run my v6 airbox straight off the throttle body, then a length of flexible hose coupled to the williams/16v scuttle induction scoop.

Not sure if it would fit, or work for that matter, but it's certainly a good place to take a feed from.

I nicked the intake off my Leon to see what fit/size/look was like (it's a VWR intake which is basically a ITG air box)

Was thinking along this line with the civic tyre R scuttle scoop.
Have seen a Williams scuttle intake I'll have a look at tho's now

Think to start with I'll use the filter I've got which is a big cone filter with a scuttle scoop and headlight vent. Should work ok i reckon?

I've just read the whole build thread! Fully awesome build! Makes me want to start messing with my ph1 again!

I'm not keen on the bend on the tb, but it looks ok mate.

Yeah that's the one matey.

That blue bend is just one I mocked up quick.
I've order different degree bends in black to find the best option. Hopefully can straighten it out a bit.

I've got one  just hate the empty space above the gearbox mount.

Could point it up towards the scuttle couldn't I:smirk:

It was more to do with the mapping side of things.

Induction length is more of an issue than the air filter.

Oh ok, is that why James did the Xtra kit? I would mind having the extra 50mm tbh, you reckon Jenvey will know what I want and sell them to me?

Filter made no difference lmao, cts sensor failed along with lambda a week prior.I have the Itg filter that Jms also supplied and have no issues at all.
