The new TV thread

I’m not too sure mate, best of asking on AV forums to be honest. I just use the OLED that’s in our living room so haven’t really got any experience with current midrange LED TVs.

Have you tried fiddling with the motion blur picture settings? Can’t remember exactly what they’re called but it tries to make films look better which doesn’t look great on games.

My parents are looking to replace their Samsung and looking to get a 55" this time round. Mainly to watch TV and catch up tv and the odd Netflix. 4K UHD would be a must.
Looked on Curry PC World this came up

Looking at no more than £1000, is this a good ish one for the price?

Slightly smaller bit cheaper?

I was tentatively close to buying that on Friday evening for the new house, but then the missus reminded me we already have a 50" tele and there are more important things needed, like a new oven and induction hob, and laminate flooring.

Where have all the TV Guru's gone?

Hoped someone would have some spec advice.

If needed I'd throw in some money if there is something worth a little extra.

Any good deals going about currently? My 55” Viera packed in today. I wouldn’t mind something the same size and 4K.

I asked about the Hisense ones in RicherSounds and seems they got great reviews. Worth a punt at under £400

They get a decent rep. Few tech guys have reviewed them also. Maybe consider the hisense also?

I bought a 65" Samsung q70 qled before Christmas. Great deal couldn't turn it down. Had a 55" lg plasma for 10 years. Zero issue. Was heavy as f**k! Sold it for 75 quid!

What really transformed the new experience is the bezels. So good to watch a proper TV and watching true 4k is nice now.

Highly recommended as it's older than the q90 so deals are a plenty. And very little difference with the q80.

Im waiting on my Hisense H507500 to be delivered

At the low end of the budget from my research it seems that Hi sense is one of the best value ones to get, Or LG

Returned the Hisense due to poor lip sync, was doing my Box in and no amount of tweaking helped

Have got a LG 7450 coming instead, 55" and only a bit more money

From reading a lot on AV Forums etc all Thr cheap TVs are much of a muchness and if you want good HDR then the best "cheap" one is about 800

I replaced all our tv’s last year, we now have three LG sets, 55 oled, 43 & 32 all have excellent picture quality but the oled is on another level, sound is awesome from a out the box unit.
All from RS, crazy prices & 6 yr warranty.

Currently searching for a 4K tv. It’s time. One question I have. Probably a stupid question. If the tv has Bluetooth am I safe to assume I can use my headphones to hear the sound? TIA

You can on LG TV’s. I assume other brands offer a similar option.

Just bought a Samsung QE5580T from John Lewis, arrives on Wednesday
Nice one. So far I’m between this one and the LG CX. I only have a width of 115cm to work with so the 48 CX or the 49 Q80T are the ones I’m leaning towards.

I was between these two too, the Samsung has a dimming issue if you use it for gaming which put me off - https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5...00t-q900t-hdr-game-mode/td-p/1731476/page/157

My LG CX arrives tomorrow, can't wait!
Think I've seen you post on avforums! I've seen the issues and am gonna chance it for now. If it's too obvious an issue/it happens then I'll send it back and end up with a CX

Worried about the burn in for such an expensive panel, even though with my current use case it may not happen

Changed my mind! Cancelled the JL order after reading through some of that Samsung forum thread, will probably order a CX once JL refund me

Ooh another thing I have forgotten to consider, I have a 6 year old AV receiver that says it only does 4k @ 60hz but I can't tell what HDMI thing this corresponds to.. not sure if I need a new receiver to do HDMI 2.1 (since the Xbox and new TV will). The speakers plugged into it are only a pair of cheap Yamaha floorstanders, not sure if TV sound has come on enough that it sounds better than them though.. or I could go soundbar I guess 🤷‍♂️

This is what I have atm: https://www.denon.com/en-gb/shop/avreceiver/avrx520bt

There are big pass through issues even with HDMI 2.1 receivers I believe.

You're going through the same process as me! On Monday evening I was ready to push buy on a Q80, by Tuesday morning I'd changed my mind.

The burn in OLED issues are a concern, you can buy the JL burn in warranty for £140 though. We still don't really know how good the anti-burn in tech is on the newer LG OLEDs because they are simply too new, hopefully they are ok.

If you want HDMI 2.1 I think the only option at the moment is the CX, the other TVs have too many issues (the Sony issues are a joke, blurry content @ 120fps). It's not a bad thing though, the CX is regarded as one of, if not the, best TV out.

Looks like best course of action for now then is to just plumb the TV straight into the Xbox until the tech catches up.. it's pretty much the only thing that gets used connected to the TV anyway (aside from the Switch on occasion)

Edit: Wife is very excited with the prospect of the floorstanders being gone. Soundbar suggestions?

+1 for sound bar suggestions.

The CX sits very low if you are using the stand (which I will be), so you need a low profile sound bar.

I've got my eye on this one, but don't know too much about them tbh - https://www.richersounds.com/tv-home-cinema/lg-sl8y.html

Honestly I really wouldn't worry about burn in on an LG TV I've had mine 3 years now and it's stays on for long periods of time and is used for gaming etc and not even a hint of any burn in on it. They're just superior in every other way when I viewed them in person nothing was close as far as how vibrant and clear the image and colours were. I think you'd really have to actively try to cause burn in by using a still imaged screen for a long time to see any issues.

I'm looking at this one. We haven't got a massive living room and I'm not replacing any furniture so I think 50" is absolute max I can go.

Going to do a bit more research but this seems decent from the reviews on AO. I just want something better than my awful Samsung for when the PS5 arrives. (I regret not replacing my old LG with another LG)

Edit, just checked on JL and the reviews are scathing...

rtings.com is really good for reviews, they have video reviews on YouTube too

This thread on AVForums helped me too: https://www.avforums.com/threads/my-best-tvs-for-next-gen-gaming-2020-21.2316098/

Well it arrived! Just in time for quali!

It’s hard to photograph, currently messing with the settings but so far I am super impressed by the Dolby vision content

Sound any good?
Tested out the train crash scene in Super 8. It looked bloody stunning, considering it's plain old 1080p, in film maker mode it was incredible to watch. The sound didn't match the visuals 😂

The sound isn't bad at all, far better than my Hisense and the sound on that wasn't terrible either. But it lacks depth, the explosions really showed that.

You have 35mm of height for a soundbar before the screen gets blocked, going to be a challenge to find a decent one at that size.

Yes. Bluetooth headphones work with Bluetooth tv. No questions are stupid, if you don't know, please ask.
