It was my first time going and was a really good turnout! Bit of everything really. Glad we got there early as it soon filled up after half 10

That time again when the cars due a service, first one since the refreshed gearbox went in so treated it to the same MTL as before.

Moved onto the new Castrol oils after using the ELF for the last 4 years. Engine will probably blow up next week now 😂 Relatively painless job apart from the oil filter being properly stuck on! No idea why as I'd not done it tight the year before.

Mileage shot, nearly at the big 150k.

A job I've been putting off is replacing the clutch cable. Noticed when swapping the gearbox it was looking a little worse for wear.

This job wasnt as easy as servicing the car... Theres a small clip under the pedals which needs prizing off however I was unsure how much force it could take before snapping. Didnt actually have to worry as it was surprisingly strong and popped off with a screwdriver and a pair of pliers. Tied some string around the old cable and pulled it out.

Bagged a new genuine item from RPD and it's obviously the newer style with a heavier weight along its length. You can also see on the old that its perished on the end and the internal lining was moving within the sheath.

Refitting wasnt quite as easy and removing as you had to guide the line around tbe back of the sound deadening. Such a faff and my arms got absolutely ruined by the back of the deadening. All clipped in and refitted anyway!

Took the car for a drive today and it does feel better but not by a huge margin. Definitely worth changing due to the above issues but definitely not a hugely noticeable difference in the shift unfortunately. I'm going to disconnect it from the clutch and reset the mech just to see if that adds any improvement.

If you plan on doing this yourself just dont be shy on the clip by the pedals and use a strong bit of string on the old cable.

In a bid to make the gearshift feel less w**k and to improve the rattle I removed the linkage and fitted a boot over the bearing.

Tried doing this the first time but the boot ripped so bagged a new one then filled it with red rubber grease.

Also readjusted the shifter to try improve the gear change but until I drive it I wont know if its improved.

Wonder if we can get of some type over the linkage joint on the bottom of the shifter?
Sorry Frayz, my jibberish translators up the duff 🤣. Is there no cover over the bottom joint on the shifter as standard? Or is it out in the open - I forget now.

I have seen some rose joint 'socks' that would probably work well.....

Sorry mate. I realised I’ve just typed a load of rubbish there. Brain says one thing, hands type something else. 😅😅

Correct there is nothing covering the bottom shifter linkage as stock or on the PMS. stock is a plastic bush, PMS is a sealed race.
What I meant to type was, I wonder if we could get some type of bellow or rubber boot to cover the joint and fill it full of grease similar to what Louis has done at the gearbox end in an attempt to cull the NVH further.

After fitting and packing out the gearbox boot I've not heard any noises from the shifter. Admittedly I've not been on a motorway at a constant speed but at 70 down the local bypass it is quiet.

Shifts are also 'better' but not perfect. I'll be moving the engine on its mounts at the weekend and hopefully fettle it some more. I have noticed in 4th gear that when I tap the throttle the shifter moved ever so slightly. Usually a sign of a knackered dogbone mount but my evol one looks absolutely fine? Anyone else get this with the PMS? I'm on vibra engine mounts

Amazing mate, sounds the same as mine..literally!
I'm amazed that fitting that boot full of grease was the cure. Mines not no lead in it yet!

PMS spec:
New minebea bearing,
Sound deadening on shifter body
Sheet Silicone gasket and silicone sealant
Boot full of red rubber grease
O-ring under lift up reverse collar.

Had a trip to The Motorist for Classics and curry with @Steve_RS , @Romanian Tyre Fitter & @leeds2592. Drive there and back was absolute hell with the crashes and road closures on the m62 but the actual event was great.

Great assortment of cars and good to see some different to the usually gathering.

Steve grabbed a couple of great photos of the clio and meg whilst we were there.

Got the brembos cleaned of all ingrained brake dust. This was a pain as autowheels, korrosol or iron out just wouldnt touch it.

Mixed some kkd devils juice up 1:1.5 and this finally got it all off. Still needed help with wire brushes and the dremel but got there in the end! Definitely all in the prep. Would have been easier me getting them blasted but this costs less 😂

Your car looks beautiful! I'm watching here from Brazil. I have a Clio Campus D4D (1.0 16v) and I go around gathering information and getting inspired. I await the next posts.

Thanks mate, appreciate the kind words!

Started painting my brembos after all the prep. Took my time masking, using orings in the seal gaps before finishing with tape. Ear plugs were also used to block all the holes up!

Only 1 done so far as I ran out of orings.

Pretty happy with the finish so far. Really was worth the extra effort in prep to remove all the casting marks!

Now what colour stickers do I put on?

What about white stickers to stand out against the darker caliper? Black would probably go better with the rest of the car though.

That is SUCH a nice colour for brakes and not many people do it.

A lot go for the boring silver like what I did.

I'd go black stickers.

Or get some brungbo stickers made up 😂
Black stickers is a good shout. I saw the other day you can get brembo stencil stickers so you can paint the logo. Beauty of that is that the stickers wont burn off or get jet washed off.

I'll get some special brumbo stickers

I'm happy with the colour, need to resist touching them too early now! Stickers are gonna go over the top of the lacquer as read issues with them causing air under the lacquer and peeling them at temp. How true that is I dont know...

Silver or black are my options really. I got some with my rebuild kit but cant remember what colour they were
