Adeys F4RT Twingo GT

Though I'm still not actually sure I want to sell it, it has no real use, the money would go nicely towards the Dope and doing some trick stuff to that. So here's an advert

One off Renault Twingo GT with 2.0 Turbo engine swap. Currently on 54k miles and will climb slowly if I use it to get to work.

Here we have for sale my metallic burgundy 2009 Twingo GT with the optioned black interior rather than old lady beige, it started life as 1149cc Turbo which I originally got hold of with just over 30k on the clock 2.5 years ago. Once in my possession I couldn’t leave it stock so I tweaked and tuned it, fitted coilovers and up rated the brakes. I used it to commute, road trip, a track day every so often and generally hooned about in it. It did everything amazingly so then sold it obviously 🙄..... Covid happened and the chap I sold it too used it for a track day and not much else I think. After a few messages I was able to buy it back at the back end of 2020. I bought it back with the intention of taking it further power wise. 150bhp 150lbft in a sub 1000kg car is good fun but it wasn’t enough. So not long after Christmas I started to convert it to run F4rt 2.0Turbo engine as found in the Laguna GT, Megane 225 and the R26. This has been mated to a 5 speed diesel gearbox to keep the ratios nice with a custom CG motorsport clutch plate to hold the power. I won't go through everything that was done along the way but once built and after a visit to Chris at EFI Parts (he also tuned it when it was the 1149cc) it now produces a shave off 280bhp and 300lbft. Its quick, weighs 1000kg on the nose with the heavier engine in there and has power to weight similar to the a C63 AMG, RS6, E92 GTS and early R35 GTR’s. Its quiet to drive and not in your face and thus is deceptively quick. I've added boost control via a switch on the steering wheel as trying to put the power down in 1st and 2nd in the dry was becoming difficult. Get it to the top of 2nd and 3rd onwards with the button pressed and it will hook up and go. Its also geared for over 160mph in 5th.

I've put 1500+ fault free miles on this now and even though it is awesome I have a lot more fun building cars and following through with the ideas than I do driving them. It actually has no purpose other than it was fun to build and now I use it to commute.... So I'm putting it up for sale, pricing it has been a little difficult as this is one of a very small handful that have been built previously (The Green RS version on YouTube apparently sold for 7k). I'm going with a similar price to a Clio 172 turbo or 197 Meglio at £5995ono.

Engine

Mapped by EFI Parts 277.8bhp 300.6lbft at 17psi

F4rt engine cambelt and aux done at time of conversion so good for another 4/5 years
Big front mount intercooler
External Bosch fuel pressure regulator with return setup and Walbro 255ltr pump
Megane 225 injectors (cleaned and checked)
Powerflex purple bushed dogbone mount

Stiffened/filled engine mount and gearbox mount
Relocated battery to boot/wheel well
Big intake pipe and s2000 air filter
Miltek 3 inch Decat wrapped
Miltek 3inch front pipe
2.5 inch mid-section into clio 172 backbox (nice and subtle though made in my garage)

Chassis
AP Coilovers

280mm Clio sport disk upgrade and Peugeot calipers. Peugeot 406 master cylinder fitted for clearance to the downpipe.
15inch OZ F1’s with 2 x Michelin Pilot Sport 3’s on the front and 2 x Toyo TR1's
Clio 172 Wishbones (extra castor over the GT items)
Clio 172 Anti roll bar
Clio 172 Powerflex purple inner and outer roll bar bushes
20mm spacers and longer bolts

Bad Bits
They all have them.

Has the common lcd bleeding on the dash clocks, can only be seen in the dark where the battery light shows as very dimly lit. Wheels could do with a refurb. Few light marks around the car though would polish up well. No big dinks or dents. There is a current abs fault, pretty sure it’s the front right wheel speed sensor, has the common airbag connector issue under the pass seat same as most Twingo's and Clio’s where it intermittently brings the warning light on. There is a reoccurring DTC for the flywheel/crank sensor sync, DTC can be deleted/reprogramed with a return/posting the ecu to EFI Parts. Sometimes illuminates in 30 yards sometimes 50+ miles. Does not affect the running of the car at all. If it were me and I hadn't have gotten bored I would also be looking at getting a nice front pipe back exhaust made for it also.

Come and take a look at it, please please please don’t ask me how to do this to your own car, it’s a for sale advert. I will need some security if you want to take it for a decent test drive, its deceptively quick and catch you out very easily. You bin it you buy it. Car is Located near Gloucester and can be viewed most evenings by prior arrangement. I am going to miss it but with no real use and boredom kicking in it should go on to someone who can finish it off and abuse the crap out of it 😀 Im planning on throwing some of the money at my low and slow 1957 Renault Dauphine (y)

£5995 ono.

I was running the car up on the drive and noticed the rad fan wasn't cutting in... checked the dash and we were at 103 degrees. Quick check showed the resistor pack had failed again.... very strange. Fan is totally free to spin so hopefully just an age thing. From what I understand is it runs the fan at 2 speeds but with it bypassed it will just run flat out. Quickly tested and it worked fine so I gutted the resistor and bridged the connectors so it's all still oem looking.

Turns out my fan wiring issue maybe a little deeper routed, another thread posted up for that as I could do with some input. My good neighbour lent me some real sweet diagnostic kit as i have a few little issue with the Twingo. An abs fault was my first to look into, after clearing all the legacy items I was able to see the current issues. DF026 front R/H wheel speed sensor. the live readout also shows its doing 655kph so hopefully it just needs a new sensor. I was able to correctly code out the front airbags, one from the dash that's been missing for years and the one for the Meg 2 steering wheel (wooo that lights now off)

Whilst I had the kit I was playing with the actuation of the fan and found it would pop the fuse when requesting the high speed fan, also causing the stop sign to illuminate and warning beep to go off, I have the same thing happen when I start the car and intermittently when I use my over boost switch which is a completely independent system making me think I have an earth fault on the high speed side of the fan wiring. The light that comes up is actually there for the brake fluid level as far as I can tell.

Great bit of kit to use though, wireless and easy. With a price tag of 2k plus I'm told, it should be! Also spotted a stored code for going too fast 😂 from the spec it looks like it will ping it for going faster than 134mph...

I woke at around 6.30 this morning with a thought that I may have wired something backwards. If the resistor and fan were plugged in the wrong way round it would be easy to check with the wiring diagram and wirings colours labelled......

Yep id plugged the fan wiring to the resistor pack, and the resistor pack wiring to the fan 🤦‍♂️

Anyway after diagnosing that I swapped them to find the fan was now running backwards, that was a super easy fix though, just de pin and re pin the connector and the fan was back to running the correct way. Funny how it ran in the correct orientation with the incorrect wiring lol. Checked with the diag kit on both both low and high speed request (all one speed as I have bypassed the resistor) with no more blown fuses (y)

One more fault to fix with the abs sensor, which I'm assuming is all that is required but I will investigate and make sure this afternoon. Thanks for reading 😁

So final for this weekend I think. Abs sensors checked, I get a reading off the known good one but nothing at all from the dodgy one confirming I need a new sensor, so will get that ordered up 👍🏻

I also got hold of a dash switch, whipped from a laguna at the scrap yard. It's now wired in on my boost switch setup for permanent full power. Sounds a little silly but gives me a few options of how to drive the car/deliver the power. I now have low boost as a default (circa 190/200bhp at a guess) overboost/overtake on a switch on the steering wheel, giving momentary full power and then the full power all the time via the dash switch 👍🏻

It looks like I may of had another fault but not really realised. Recently I've kind of thought the car, though still fast was a little flat. I put it down to the ambient temps being higher and just generally getting used to the power as you do. Yesterday whilst doing a pull it hesitated then carried on. I didn't think much of it as it was so brief but enough to feel. This morning whilst on the way to work it went flat when just driving normally, like a car running out of fuel (my fuel gauge isn't the best so could of ran low 😂 but it wasn't) I then watched the lambda correction on the dash all the way home, noting that it was constantly trying to add fuel and when pressing on a little it would feel flat whilst trying to add huge percentages of it in.

Anyway I whipped it out this eve and slapped in a spare Nissan R35 GTR pump. Initial test would make it look like the pump was dying off or not able to keep flow as I've suddenly gained a chuck of power, smoother power and an eagerness to rev. Scared me again lol. Will see how it behaves and feels over the next few days.

I didn't really get any pics as I was covered in petrol (y)

WOW its like a new car again, hello Mr limiter 😂

I can confirm that the new pump has cured another issue i didnt really notice. I have lots of power and it revs right round now where I used to shift when the power felt like it was flattening out. Clipped it a few times this morning without meaning too 👍🏻

Just reading this fault finding and curing stuff is making my head spin!

Kudos to you, you can tinker fo' sho'. Where did you find a 'spare' Nissan R35 GTR pump?!?

Cheers, i enjoy the figuring out and fixing side of things (plus the building) gives me something to think about. Hopefully ill have no little issues left in a week or so making it feel like a near factory car/conversion.

Like most of my parts from the build they are from a very good friend of mine, he works for a well known GTR specialist and thus parts like the pumps are thrown aside in favour of upgrades, perfect running items with no issues (y)

jesus that's quick init, some sticky rubber and im sure thatll grip and go in second too.

whats the most youve gotten out of it so far then seems to just keep pulling.

It's has indicated in excess of 140kph 😉 on a private airfield. I let up before the car did, gets a little brown trouser when you click what you are doing and what you are in.

Defo, not just for the top speed or cruising revs buy you can see what it's like for gearing 1st to 4th. Any shorter and it would be totally useless

The seagulls at work made it look like the twingo had been at a bukkake party so I gave it a clean down. Looks OK but could do with a professional going over. I absolutely hate cleaning cars, so much effort. It always looks red in pics too, though it's more metallic burgundy? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I spent some time putting together an intro vid for the Twingo, just trying to cover a lot of the questions I get asked regarding it and giving a little bit of info if you wanted to do the same/similar thing. Its long and poorly edited and probably misses most of the info you want but here it is, don't lay on the hate too thick (y) (I've never tried to edit a video before, unless I can fix it with spanners or a hammer its hard work)

I've added some speed holes...... well its more a hope it may help, the back on the car gets quite light and skittish at speed, the last car I had this on was my old supercharged Clio which could also do double motorway speeds with little effort. I did it to that, and well I think it helped. The hope is some of the air will be able to escape rather than catch in the bumper. Don't think it can make things worse. I'm am looking to do a flat undertray/splitter for the front soon to also smooth things under the car. Ideally id like to chop out the spare wheel well and put a full diffuser on the back.

The UK's fastest Twingo Challenge.

Whilst I'm aware its not a supercar slaying machine it is pretty spritely, so I've challenged myself to have the UK's quickest quarter mile Twingo mk2, a 1 horse race against myself maybe? It should be a good laugh and using a Draggy and eventually/hopefully slips from Santa Pod in the future. If I can hit mid to low 5s 0-60 (2012 Golf R 5.7 2018 Megane Trophy 5.6) ill be happy though traction is an issue. Next up the 60-100mph which I think is a very good on the road comparison with other cars. I want to run very low 6's which again is respectable for a budget built Twingo (2016 BMW M2 and the i8 run 5.8 seconds) And finally the quarter mile (and 1/8th) if I can get the car to dip into a very high 8 second 8th mile it may just run a 12.999 on the quarter, though really I think ill get around a 13.2sqm. Personally I want to beat my old FWD time of 13.4. I'm going to be recording (poorly) the progress along the way so if you fancy keeping up to date hit the subscribe button on you tube and click the watch button at the top of this thread (y)

I went and checked back on my original build thread, the rear seats I mention in the video actually weighed in at 19kg each! I removed all of it and weighed it back in the day (see here) 67kg of weight was removed from the car so I've basically gone back to that. A lightweight battery and seats would save some more weight easily enough if I needed too. Will try and hook up with @Ads29 at some point for an accurate weight of the car (y)

I also dug out a picture of my old SC Clio's quarter mile time slip from just over 10 years ago! Took a lot of Facebook digging to find it. This is my personal target to beat in the Twingo, both have roughly the same horsepower, the Twingo has loads more torque but the SC 172 delivered it a lot better and with more revs...

So had a little play in it today, nothing too mad as obviously stopping and sprinting to 60 on the road isn't all that fun. Wheelspin central 😂 that said Dragy clocked a 5.47 0-60mph and I can just clip it in 2nd gear. For comparison a new 4wd Yaris GR does it in a very similar time👍🏻

I've not given the car much attention for a few weeks, its been parked up and I've been stuck in hospital with too much time on my hands. Anyway whilst there I did start piecing together a wish list of brake parts that I needed for a slight upgrade, I just need to find them all. Brake ducting/cooling is high on the list though and I found a chap advertising on Facebook 3d printed ducts. DUCT3D. He does a set for the rs133 and after checking sizes they are the same as the GT (and some fords) so a set have been ordered. Next will be some decent front pads (yellowstuff or mintex are available for the calliper I use), along with a disk rear beam if I can get one (currently trying to find a 133 or Renault wind breaking) That should be a decent little upgrade with some high temp fluid. If not then it will have to get brembos with custom brackets. The brakes currently are not bad but when you ask of them a little you can start to feel them fade. That said I am on normal fluid and oem Peugeot pads.

Indeed, has a better bite now with the bigger master cylinder and fresh pads but the same as they were then. The callipers arnt catered for like the 172 setup but there's a few options 👍🏻

Hi. That’s me! Cheers for buying

I rate the mintex pads. If you can get m1144 or 1155, they’ll be the ones to go for imo.

If you have the backing plates I'm sure carbotech would make you some pads in any compound you want

+1 for the mintex 1144, good for fast road and some light track use. althhough the lifespan isnt the best there a pretty cheap pad for what you get.

Gave it a quick rinse today as it was covered in s**t, I say quick, its taken all day and the interior and glass still needs doing. Hard f**king work in this heat and still half way job tbh. I should probably get one of them snow foam things too, Blast with jet wash and suds, rinsed, cleaned down with a mit and soapy stuff, rinsed again and dried off. Black hole glaze followed by nattys wax. Wheels need a refurb too. Doesn't look too bad now, especially as I really cba to clean it. Might have someone do a proper job one day.
