182 Touge/Tuner Build

It's not how you stand by your car, it's how you stand on your car.

Good news, and more good news. False floor is underway and the initial ply cutout is done. God bless having two 20cm profilers to properly measure out the sides of the boot, doubly so given they’re asymmetrical.

I don’t doubt the knowledge being available to the public already, but if anyone wants my measures/templates, more than happy to share.

Furthermore, Autoglass FINALLY pulled through on sourcing one and I now have an intact, brand new windshield. 😁

Smiles all round at the moment, just got a balljoint and ABS sensor to sort in the coming week.

Lovely stuff.

Lovely work with the false floor!
Been wanting to do this in the future myself as well. Keen for those measurements/template if your happy to share.
Just need to find a carpet that is close to a OE match.

Cheers dude!

Will need to run and grab the actual templates when back at the lockup, but measurements are as follows:

Front section: 121cm width x 46.5cm length
This is literally just a ply rectangle, no notching or adjusting etc

Rear section: 110cm width at the rear, 104cm width at the front (seat mounts) with a profiler used to make the template accurate to the curves etc. Length on the rear section is 75.5cm. Final 5mm of that length is the curvature of the rear at the boot end.

Both sides will need profiling individually as they’re asymmetrical.

I probably could’ve worded it better, and can draw a diagram up if need be.

Gaze upon my brilliant (f**king shocking) sketch of what's what

And just freehand your arches/strut plastics etc with some cardboard and a profiler as truthfully there was no measuring there, just profiling and really good (see: lucky) eyeballing.

Brilliant. Thanks for that!
Will definitely use this for reference in the future 👍

Next wave of singlehandedly making my friend regret letting my Clio onto his lift is a go, this time involving the driver's side LCA balljoint having a fair bit of play. Furthermore, in the act of sorting the wheel bearing last week, a gentleman I explicitly asked not to touch my car, touched my car, and consequently my ABS sensor met Allah mid-job as a direct result of his barbarism.

Slightly suboptimal.

Thankfully he's paid out of pocket, and have a Renault ABS sensor going in for... £0. Nice. I don't enjoy my 182RS involuntarily being a Cup, so that and the balljoint in this next session should finally end the suspension woes given I have now run out of suspension and steering related things to replace.

Realistically I don't think I'll achieve my original goal of fitting a Quaife before it gets cold and the roads get salty, but thus far I've quite enjoyed getting to know the Clio and fixing it up nonetheless. I'm pretty sure 170k miles and 17 previous owners would typically condemn a car to the breakers, but the thing's genuinely growing on me.

Tiny details in the oven while I deal with ball joint hell et al.

I've been hunting for a rather long time, specifically, for MOMO detail pieces to trick out the Clio's interior and just getting it feeling a bit more 00s plastic fantastic.

I have, at long last, found one piece of the puzzle, that being a MOMOCorse gaiter to go on my (eventual) MOMO shift knob when I find that.

Appreciate that this is a very weird thing to be hell-bent over, but nonetheless, loot is on its way to my gaff.

Still hunting for the following, and I shall prevail, even if it takes me years lol

Also, speaking of Halfords...

Clio story time from last night!

The local Halfords branch became the site of some emergency repairs as my mate's 182 LCA balljoint and driveshaft let go while pulling into, you guessed it, Halfords.

Naturally, that's the cue to amass the boys and get the tools out, because no man left behind.

Initial damage assessment of my mate's 182 showed that the balljoint had completely let go (alas some quite interesting fitment), but we got the wheel off and the driveshaft had completely snapped in half.

There were quite a lot of shaft puns throughout this. In spite of being a bunch of 20-something year-olds, we're not particularly good at behaving like adults.

One mate managed to source a balljoint, and after a few phone calls I managed to source a replacement driver's side driveshaft for him from the other end of Dorset off a good friend. Looking at the options in our group of "least hideously uneconomical", the Fiesta ST150 was selected as the parts hauler of choice as opposed to my 182RS, a 2.4 NA diesel Hilux, or a Focus ST mapped within an inch of its life.

With my mate's 182 on the final stretch to being fixed, the ADHD promptly set in and we decided to sand down and re-lacquer the absolutely hanging lacquer on my carbon bonnet. Something to do, innit. 240 grit, 400 grit, a few others all the way up to 1200 grit and a nice deep clean later, we got the cans out and had at it.

Probably should've worn PPE as we have all inhaled quite a lot of epoxy, carbon and lacquer. Yum.

Additional fun fact, I found out why my carbon bonnet was scratched so much. I thought it was damaged in transit. Turns out it actually went upside-down through a hedge in a bit of an on-track incident. Knockhill I think.

Anyways, got my buddy back on the road having amassed the boys to the extent one of them drove from Weston Super Nightmare to Bournemouth solely to help out, so he's back and my carbon bonnet is a bit less s**t looking as I've got some stickers to put on it tomorrow night.

Got a good bunch of mates. :)

WSM was the best Cruise in the SW back in the 90’s/early 00’s! I had some epic nights there back in the day! 000’s of cars.

Aye! I genuinely wish I was there and present for Weston Wheels back in the day rather than being a sperm cell. I've had this YouTube video saved for YEARS.

I might have to take the Weston Super Mare slander back then lol

Name me one good thing to come out of Weston Super Nightmare ;)
I live on the outskirts of Weston Super Mare but originally from Bristol.

Me, when I helped you out earlier in this thread. And also sold Rojer wheels really cheap to help him out.

So Weston Super Mare is actually helping your friend with employment as well then, by the sounds employment he can’t get in Dorchester.

I think the moral is never tie everyone with the same brush.

Wholly fair point. I don't actually know why, but WSM became the butt of a few jokes for one reason or another - not in any serious capacity but I get you.

I feel like a road trip to Weston Super-Mare and a photo of my Clio there is in order as atonement for my Weston slander.

Apologies boss 🥺

I haven't touched Cheddar since 2024 due to the absolutely biblical quantity of police and financed German vehicles behaving badly.

How is it these days?

Exactly the same, and parking cost is astronomical 🤣 I tend to visit places around the gorge as its same-old there really.

Unrelated to Cheese Engorged but saw this on eBay the other day and it made me think of your build

Sounds about right for Cheddar! We used to do nights there, like 15-30 cars, and kept it sufficiently clean (even with some sporty driving) where the police left us alone. We'd do a litter pick while we were there, clean up after ourselves if we had a BBQ, and generally just looked after the spot.

Eventually the spot just got super saturated with GTIs/Ms booting it from the bottom to the coach turnaround, crashing, and we all just switched spots.

That's actually a sick little model, got a link to the listing perchance? Those graphics look sick, I wish I saw that before going off and printing myself some sponsor stickers to whack on the car tomorrow :ROFLMAO:

Apologies accepted.

I had to have my 13 year old cockapoo put to sleep at 1:00 am yesterday & whilst I was waiting in the car park @ the vets a number of cars were doing handbrake turns in the local Lidl car park. Not really what I wanted to hear tbh. And no, 😂 this wasn’t in Weston Super Mare.

My heart goes out to you dude, I had the exact same with my cat on Monday after 19 years of him being my companion. Know the exact feeling, sans the ambience of teenagers deploying the drift stick thankfully. 🤝

I feel like this week hasn't been a great week for a lot of people

Thank you, sorry for your loss. Not the same without them.

Totally agree, a crap week.
