182 Touge/Tuner Build

looking at that ball joint above its not been fully seated and someone has battered in the pinch bolt anyway, assume ripping the threads clean off the pinch bolt so it will have been moving up and down in the hub, as above probably damaging the hub.

With the above fixed if there's still issues swap out the rear dampers. (i chased an issue years ago, leading to a full front end rebuild and it still wouldn't drive properly, couldn't get to the bottom of it until one of the rear dampers started knocking, changed the pair and the problem was completely solved!

That makes sense. I’ve been working through a fair bit of bodge from probably several of the 17 previous owners of this car, so it figures that whoever did the previous balljoint was smoothbrained.

I’ll get a fresh set of rear shocks on it and see if that alleviates things. Rear shocks don’t look to be too awful a job, so I’ll just get on it next time I send the Clio into air jail.

Thanks for the extra perspective, I’d’ve never even considered rear shocks to be a potential issue so I’d just be chasing my tail with a front end rebuild. Seriously appreciate that!

Sounds exactly like what I’m having! Any imperfection, I’m getting pulled about and anything big I’m getting shot broadside

Having had it on track it handled really well when I briefly owned it.

When you say turns left more than right, do you mean lock to lock? Is the rack centralised?

LMAO the bits that aren't broken are the bits you've done, don't you worry lol

And yeah, rack was all sorted and done properly. Just a geo issue, I think hubs/rear shocks as mentioned.

I'm a fairly avid enjoyer of the Clio's autistic Japanese cousin (the K12 March/Micra) and had an opportunity to get hands on this.

It's already bought and secured, but I've got 6 cars as-is and ideally need to downscale to 3.

If Cliosport is okay with me sticking around with my weird Japanese not-Clio, I'd love to hang around nonetheless

These are a Clio Mk3 underneath for the most part, so I'm looking to explore the possibility of binning the rear drums off for a Clio mk3 rear axle/disc setup.

Also, yes, a K-series fits in one!

From what I can find and some quick, cursory measuring, the rear axle mountings are identical to that of a Mk3. A rear disc conversion may be on the cards as I did similar to my EJ9 back in the day, so will report back when (likely quite far down the line) I attempt it.

The front brakes, at a glance, look exactly like a Clio mk2 setup though. I have some un-fitted Hispec 4-pots and may attempt some silly buggery over the winter.

I feel awful selling the Clio as even though I've not met a single one of you in-person, you lot have all made Clio ownership incredibly enjoyable and been great company.

Clio's up and (properly) listed. This actually feels quite sad to do. Sorry chaps.

I've put it up for £2800, but I'd rather it go to a good home in here, so if someone here is keen on it for whatever reason, I'll happily look after them on the price.

I also successfully identified the source of my handling woes as the rear discs/bearings going off, which I'll either have done ASAFP before sale, or will discount accordingly for the price of a set and labour fitting them. More than happy to honour this either way.

Got a set of standard tails going on this weekend, stickers ditto.

Bonnet hunting, but I'm at the point where it's more of a "I need the space" than a "I need the £" issue.

Standard seats are back in, and standard taillights back on. Un-pimping my ride to decommission the thing before sale.

Given the nature of the next build and the fact I'm getting my own unit, I'm really going to miss the time spent with the boys tweaking the Clio. The car brought a surprising amount of people together, and I'd never really had the crucial car guy experience of hanging out at a unit until I got this.

That's my mate underneath the Clio/between my legs () and I did say to him "are you gonna put something underneath the car?"

Given he's got like 12 RSs sat in his barn, I think he'd be fairly content being squished by one in all fairness. He's also a farmer, so "health and safety" isn't in his vocabulary

Aye! Even though it was a truck jack, I personally wouldn't get under there and do it without some kind of failsafe. I've driven someone to Halfords before just to forcibly purchase eyewear for them before using an angle grinder
