plenty out there to be selective, seat belt light doesnt sound braw, but could be an electric fault.

serv light may be low oil as well.

Yeah sounds dodgy to me too and I don't even know that much about buying cars (only bought one!)
How come you didn't get to test drive it?

If no insurance you should ask the seller to take you some where off road such as a car park to have a test drive, not the best idea but if your spending £3-5 k you wanna make sure it all feels right, would never buy a car unless i had driven it, for all you know it may be pulling all over the place

SERV light and the seat belt light staying on, as well as a CF bonnet that has been resprayed to Monaco.

Seat belt light would suggest that the the tensioners have fired and the computer hasn't been fixed.

Seen as noone as mentioned it and not sure if the original poster is aware, but the service light doesn't mean a service is required... it's indicating a fault.

  Black Gold with cup packs
I have read alot of threads stating that their service light is constantly on, is this suggesting that there is a fault with alot of 172/182s?

Did you have a look under the bonnet?

Check that all the shut lines are correct, that the chassis legs are straight. check for signs of new stuff being present in the engine bay (newer that the rest). Also check the oil the proper way, using the dipstick.

Have a look underneath the car.

Personally i would take the advice on here and walk away. There are plenty more out there and imagine how gutted you would be if it turned out to be bent!
