I'm afraid first trackday will need to be early next year as the final push to get the car finished is gonna leave me with a few hefty bills to clear up but that'll give me time to get to know it's little qwerks (sp) on the road.

Right owing to a lack of things to do at work we've both decided to book the rest of the week off to get some more done on the clio.
The first thing we did was fit the door mirrors. During the week I'd made up some mounting plates out of some carbon fibre off cuts I had laying about, I also bonded some nuts to the back to make fit and removal easier.

161020081292.jpg

We primed both surfaces ready for some windscreen glue (becoming increasingly know as 'cliobond')

161020081296.jpg

161020081295.jpg

Next we drilled holes in the door itself so we could use the bolts that hold the mirror to the mounting plate as some aligning pins.

161020081294.jpg

Then we bonded the plates on and went to lunch while the glue dried

161020081293.jpg

161020081297.jpg

Back from lunch we bolted the mirrors on and set about pointing them in the correct direction, during this process we found that the mirrors are more of a gesture towards legality than anything else

161020081322.jpg

After this we nipped to the parents house to find a nice little parcel waiting for us.
The numberplates had arrived in all their questionable legality glory. We got them on and we think they look the nuts and its getting scary how close to being done and road legal (ish) its all coming now.

do you find you can see pretty much sack all out of the passenger wing mirror?

i think my mirrors are slightly smaller than yours, but when its angled so i can see out of it, half the mirror is covered by the door window frame lol

Yep thats excatcly what happens!! LOL I thought i might have mounted them sligghtly too far forwards causing it but i can see the whole drivers mirror and thats chuffing useless too.

have you tried looking out of them whilst the car is running?

if yours is anything like mine the whole car vibrates, as do the mirrors lmao

Well another busy day on the clio and a big thanks to the weather for being so kind to us lately. First port of call was a trip to A5 salvage our semi local french car breakers for a spot of shopping.

171020081323.jpg

once everything was safely back at the garage and lunch was out the way we turned our attentions to the doors...... Again:rolleyes:
This time the insides of the doors.

171020081324.jpg

Started off by measuring everything up and made sure it was gonna fit.

171020081325.jpg

Then the usual measuring, scribbling, disagreeing and drilling comenced to make the handles fit.

171020081327.jpg

171020081326.jpg

Oh and my old favourite, drilling holes in the doors:S

171020081328.jpg

Then we set the speed nuts in place to hold the handles

171020081329.jpg

Once that was done we were able to bolt the door cards in place making it possible to check the rods for the door pulls were ok and as luck would have it they were perfect. so we began fitting the brackets i'd been making at work during the slack periods last week.

171020081331.jpg

Once they were fitted to the back of the door card we could fit the fully assembled card to the door and measure up for the rivets making sure they're all the same distance from the edge of the card.

Ta Da!

Been reading from page 1 on and off since I got back from work, and that was at half 4!!

Absolutely amazing work, a credit to you both! I need a mk1 project in my life thats going to be at least 2% of how good this one is!

WOW!!! Seriously guys thats a hell of an acolade, Thanks so much.
Also a big thanks to anyone who's taken the time to read the thead and post they're encouragement and suggestions.

Well today was another fairly busy day but not terribly picture worthy i'm afraid. First port of call was as we said, the passenger door which although it went really smoothly took a suprisingly long time.

181020081343.jpg

Good result though I reckon, feels great to finally be able to sit in the car and look around at the virtually finished interior.

181020081342.jpg

Next job was to swap the fuse/relay box on the N/S for a mk2 one as it's big enough to fit everything in unlike the mk1 one. Forgot to take a pic with the lid on as it was a fair bit fiddlier than we'd expected.

181020081344.jpg

Another job off the list lol.

181020081345.jpg

Then was a job we've had our heads in the sand about for some time but we could avoid it no longer :dead:

Chop the bonnet up...

181020081346.jpg

181020081347.jpg

It went pretty well really and now the bonnet closes and clears the engine and cover nicely. I've not decided if we'll do it or who'll be refibreglassing it back together for me yet but i know plenty of people who will make a great job of it for me.

Alignment is way out so i've gotta spend a while tryin to make it all fit together properly.

181020081348.jpg

One other little job before we headed to the chip shop, got the bonnet stay holes drilled and fitted that to make working on it far easier.

181020081351.jpg

Cheers for looking as always might not make it down the garage tomorrow so that's probabaly it for now lol.

If it was me, with the position of that filter, i'd fit a small length of pipe and a Morrette twin headlight to the N/s and have the cold air going straight in...

^^^ Thats a good idea. only on the one side though as said other wise it will look stupid and less like a track ****!:)

  Some of a Clio 1.8 16v
Hmm that sounds like the best way to get the air into the filter and believe me something similar has crossed my mind but i'm really doing my best to keep the car well presented and i'd like it to look like a factory track car so i'll be dropping the filter back a bit and be taking the air feed from the redundant N/S fog light hole.

Not meaning to sound picky, but isn't air hotter the closer to the ground you go??

Hardly make a difference at speed to be honest, front fog hole would be the ideal way to keep the look of the car as its wanted, no mesh over the front though, thats for the gheys.

Doesn't hot air rise anyway? Hot air balloon?

PMSL! this is for a different thread! But i'm just going by another thread in the project section where a guy said that his air feed was to be as high up the front as possible so the air would be colder.

Either way, my opinion doesn't count for s**t. You are clearly far more talented than I could ever be!!! lol!

i have only just found this thread and its kept me reading over half hour .....all i have to say is this is bloody devotion !! lovely motor !
