Regatdin insurance... What were you paying to insure it as a 1.2? 1k for a conversion sounds very tempting lo.

  White Clio 1.2 @ 172
As a 1.2 it was costing £500 to insure, as a 172 it costs £1000 to insure per year. I'm 22 have 3 points, no no-claims bonus and live in a category F postcode. I'm changing it to be registered @ my mums which is a Cat B area though and storing it there as it lowers the insurance to approx £650py (I live in a high risk area)

Update Time

Sorry, It's been a while but the bodyshop has taken 3 months to get there act together and deliver the car to my house. They still haven't finished the front bumper, the engine cover or the mirrors but I needed the car back to get working on it.

Turns out the people in the bodyshop haven't got a clue about mechanics and have had the car sitting on a jack for 3 months Jacked @ the gearbox linkage not the subframe *FACEPALM*

I'm very annoyed to say the least because of this I've got a soggy box which is stuck in 3rd gear so it looks like the engine is coming out AGAIN! To Add insult to injury I had a really high paying job and was paying a mechanic to finish the car who has done next to nothing, all the bolts are loose in the engine bay etc now that I've been laid off and just doing some freelance work I've got enough time on my hands to do the car myself.

So The car arrived back at mine approx 1 week ago.

We got it back to mine and took the fence down on my garden and lobbed it in the garden and began the long and arduous task of repairing and finishing the car.

10422_290421125692_878110692_9069078_5094314_n.jpg

took all the parts out of the car and put them in their temporary home inside the house :)

Began fitting the interior again. Don't let anyone tell u this conversion is easy. If it's not the fact the seatbelts don't fit it's the courtesy light unit not working or the new Air con/Fan unit housing not having a whole in the bulkhead. Don't get me wrong 99% is plug and pray but the other 1% is make it fit or do without.

10422_291971150692_878110692_9100621_7714070_n.jpg

whilst I was fitting the interior we took the oppurtunity to run the AV Cables to the various cameras/monitors and supply a power line as well. So cabling runs to headlining on both sides from 2 AV sources. 3 AV sources and power to each of the front seats. 2 AV Sources to the dash where the main screen is AV+power to each door for the cameras and AV/Power to the front of the car where the other camera is located.

In total we went through 1/2mile of cabling but it's all in now.

We moved on to cut out some acryillic for where the headunit used to be to cover this area up which will house the switches for the PC, Emergeny lights switch, Lock/Unlock Switch, PC HDD Activity LED etc. The 7" touchscreen slightly overlaps the area where the switches used to be so I had to relocate. I'll get some pictures of this area later when it's finished.

10422_290420805692_878110692_9069075_4905583_n.jpg

We welded some rods in to hold the batterys down with as you can see the area isn't complete but we needed to get power to the engine bay so had to get it in as fast as possible.

These are all the AV cables coming in to the boot :/ What a nightmare

in the back of the avove photo u can see the VGA cable the RCA cables, USB cable and something called an IPAC ;) intresting little device operates via USB and plugs into your PC. You then put wiring into it and wire it into switches, the switches emulate keypresses on your PC so you can then bind it to a frontend, for example if i ran Xbox Media Centre on a Linux machine in the boot I could bind a switch to CTRL & + which i could bind in XBMC to be Volume Up, you get the idea, esentially you could take the renault remote and map it to control the pc from the steering wheel, this is the intention anyway XD

10422_291404920692_878110692_9090173_496118_n.jpg

So I got my breadboard and my PIC for controlling the popper on the car, this little thing deals with everything to do with the locking and opening of the car, its quite simple but basically no matter what happens if the door popper jams, the battery runs flat w/e happens there is a way in the car using this little clever thing a battery backup under the front powers a circuit which forces the window to go down in the event of a flat battery :D

SMD's to do my clocks :D

Checking my soldering.

10422_292036590692_878110692_9101612_1341000_n.jpg

Seems I messed up on this one but it's all fixed now :D

So the plan:

Drop the engine out and remove the shafts, gearbox and clutch find out the issue with the gearbox and either replace or salvage it. put the engine back in the car and get the car off to the MOT testing station :D

I'll be updating more frequently as progress is very quick at the moment, depending on how long the bodyshop take to finish the front bumper and mirrors I should have this baby on the road in the next few weeks :approve:

Very excited 2 year project coming 2gether

Glad to see the work coming along nicely now!

Parkside Garages, Walker. Work is done by a guy who works out of there but isn't part of Parkside don't get me wrong he has done a hell of a lot for the money I paid him £1250. But it's taken 18months. 17month's longer than he said it would take and has cost me a gearbox.

Why didnt you remove the engine before it was painted.

engine was in and working fine, stupid bodyshop mashed my gearbox by jacking it from the gear selector whilst in third so has to be taken out again and replaced :/

Impressed with the quality of work, not a huge fan of the exterior but if you like it.

Pic of you playing WoW on the monitor ? :D

Woah! A lot of time and money have gone into this, so well done mate. I think the new front bumper with the grill bit filled it will look sweet on the front! :D Fair play for having the patience to do it as well, I reckon it'll look pretty sweet when it's all done. Can't wait to see it all done. :D. Keep up the good work.

Looks good inside mate, but why are you missing a rev needle??

Cause the clocks aint 100% done, neither is the dash. I just wanted to fit to see what its like. Dash is off to bodyshop again as it has a crack near the join of the screen.

Cheers mate.

This car i believe when finished could look really well! That dash looks awesome :)

Thank you very much :)

More pictures please :D

Coming soon ;)

Ok so to be honest I've neglected the thread a bit recently, But It's going to be getting back on track by tomorrow expect some more updates :D.

I've been laid off from work for a few months now as a website designer and that gave me a chance to mock up a quick layout for the website for this car.

http://www.whiteclio.co.uk I haven't finished processing a lot of the photos of doing correct colour correction I just ran through an auto correction macro which fucked a lot of them up so when I get some time I'll correct them :)

Lastly my farther was kind enough to plough some money in to the car, he's basically sick of me not being on the road and being able to go from Newcastle to Edinburgh to visit him every once in a while so it was a lovely suprise for him to buy me an Engine crane today :D.

This means that the engine and gearbox are coming out tomorrow to see the damage. On that note I made a visit to the bodyshop and asked the guy to hurry up with the mirrors/front bumper.

We've been debating the camera/mirror situation for a while now. Basically I wanted some M3 Mirrors with cameras flushed into the opening to basically act like a second mirror. My brother came up with a great sudgestion to mount the cameras behind the glass and get a 2 way mirror cut to the same shape so u can't physically see the camera behind the glass but it can see outwards. After much debate this is the most prefferable method and so wer're going to go with this.

I'm looking at a deadline of 2-4weeks to get the car roadworth and back on the roads but not completed!

Updates coming tomorrow :D

The car looks like it's starting to take the right direction, but I still think the sideskirts look out of place.
The idea of a ph2 bumper is cool, but I think it will either be a ballache to get it to fit properly or it wont fit properly at all. I'd maybe consider modifying a ph1 front bumper to accomodate ph2 grille and fog surrounds etc

Brilliant ill be following this deffo and really want to see it finished.

Good work mate,

Engine has had to come out again to repair the box that the bodyshop knacked.

Not really got much to report just working on getting all the small things finished.
The car will look 1000x better once I've got my black alloys and the engines sitting back in it, so it doesn't look like it's on stilts. Obviously it looks a bit funny with no bonnet on it. but don't be 2 quick 2 judge :p
