Wish I'd have bought a phs 1 lookin at this now... D'oh!

Yes! I will try my hardest to convert you ;)

Right guys, we have some updates (finally).
I have been busy and ordering lots of goodies for the Clio this week, and some of them have turned up!

Firstly, I bought a brand new numberplate light for the rear. Mainly because my bulb had blown and I couldnt be bothered to buy another one, so bought the whole unit:

Before:

After:

img2011050500091.jpg

I have also been busy buying some nice PH2 Titanium Silver parts!
Took me ages to find what I was after, I wanted Cup Spoiler and side strips, and I just so happened to stumble across someone breaking a Ti 182 on eBay. Result, snapped the spoiler and side strips up for the grand total of £175 posted. Not too bad I dont think!!

Some pics:

img2011050500083.jpg

img2011050500089.jpg

And then got around to the fitting of the side strips!
Quick and easy, just how it should be!

img2011050500083.jpg

img2011050500084.jpg

img2011050500085.jpg

I did clean behind this one before fitting the new one, I just didnt get a picture!

img2011050500086.jpg

Also, something I am unsure of, but decided to buy and see what they were like!

img2011050500088.jpg

20mm FK Spacers..

Before:

img2011050500092.jpg

When fitted and combined with my Eibach camber bolts adjusted to max negative camber (for now, the entire cars geometry needs setting up now!)

One final pic:

The car now has a huge amount of Toe-in, but as I said above, as soon as my AST Topmounts arrive and I fit them, she will be going in for a full geo and coilover setup, and I cannot wait for that to happen!

I also have planned some rear camber shims with 0.5 degree's of camber, just so the back doesnt look so out of place in comparison to the front!

Handles awesomely with the spacers and camber though, I must be honest! I didnt expect such a difference, but you can definitely feel it!

Similar to fitting the RARB, but for the front if that makes sense?

Will be fitting the Cup spoiler this weekend, so will update then ;)

Cheers

You've done REALLY well there mate, looks absolutely brilliant with those side strips good work, spoiler will finish it off a treat. You got it all for a bloody good price too! Git!

You need less camber, doesn't even look like you've put the spacers on! LOL

How much were the spacers btw? And where from?

Can you PM me his contact details please? I want the bootlid.

I got it for a bargain price thankfully. Mainly because it was listed as Iceberg silver, not Titanium ;).

I know, the pictures dont really do it justice! The wheels look much further out than they were before, but the amount of camber seems to detract from that, making them seem to have only had camber applied!

Spacers were about £100 from Venom Motorsport. I originally bought 25mm ones, but I had a phonecall saying that they didnt have any in stock! So I opted for 20's at a slightly reduced price.

PM'ed ;)

sits well. You'll notice a big difference with a geo setup.

Love this car

I hope so!

Not sure where to take it to get it all setup though, Ktec is the obvious choice living so close I guess..

Thanks, makes it worthwhile getting positive comments like that!

Just want to get the Cup spoiler on now :D:D

Haha cheers mate!

Its being fitted tomorrow morning along with a hugeee wash and clean session as I have been neglecting her recently haha.

Should look pretty cool :)

As below, the numberplate light was £9.99 with free postage off the bay!

+1 :approve:

EDIT: Just looked on eBay, they're about £9 - 10.

Thats the one!! :)

I've just fitted ph2 side stips to mine too, makes a big improvement.

I'm also after a cup spoiler, you did very well to get one as there was about 5 wanted threads for titanium spoilers on here recently

  Ph 1 172, Focus 1.6
Excellent car, really love it. The phase 1 in titanium silver is the best colour, hence why I got one, love the sparkle they have in the sunlight. The phase 1 is also the best looking Clio RS, much more aggressive looking than the later clio's.

This is my own personnel opinion but the only thing I'm not keen on are the phase 2 rear lights, other than that it's bob on.

Keep up the good work.

Haha I did very well indeed mate.
It was listed as Iceberg silver, but I took a gamble as I was pretty certain it was Titanium, lucky for me I guess! :D

Thanks a lot mate :), its rewarding recieving comments like this!

Same here, I shall be trialling PH1 lights in the coming weeks to see which I prefer :)

Updates for today..

Well it was an early start!
I wanted to get the new Cup spoiler fitted and get the car washed and polished, which proved to be a bit of a bugger trying to clean it whilst the rain was persistent on hindering my progress..

We start here.. 8:00 in the morning, with a normal looking car:

img2011050700111.jpg

That sight then swiftly changed to this:

img2011050700112.jpg

Being a bit anal about my car, that then turned to this:

img2011050700113.jpg

And then..

img2011050700114.jpg

And then......

img2011050700115.jpg

img2011050700116.jpg

img2011050700117.jpg

img2011050700118.jpg

img2011050700119.jpg

img2011050700120.jpg

Do not ask why I decided to remove the roof gutters. They were absolutely full of crap, and I am kind of glad I did, as the amount of dirt and grime in there was unbelievable!

After the above, this was the final product:

img2011050700121.jpg

With the showers still coming down, I was toying with whether or not it would be a good idea to wash the car..
20 minutes later, the rain stopped, the sun shone, and my mind was made up.

Managed to give it a full hoover and interior clean, exterior wash and polish, paying patricular attention to the side strips and spoiler as they were rather filthy.
I think you will agree, the results arent too bad :)
I think I was very lucky when it came to fitting the spoiler. It sits pretty much bang on, the plugs matched and plugged together straight away, and the Cup spoiler came with a slight extension on the washer hose anyway, so they went straight together as well. Pretty much trouble free!

New Cup spoiler fitted and cleaned up:

Rest of the car after its wash and polish:

dsc0467wq.jpg

With that now fitted and finished, I am rather stuck for ideas as to what do spend pennies on next!

I have AST top mounts on the way from the Kam Racing group buy.

I also want my wheels refurbing, possibly dark grey, unsure yet, either dark grey/anthracite or standard silver.

Then thats it really!

Maybe even go for bodies? ;)

Thanks for reading!

I much prefer the standard side bump strips of the Phase 1 - i think it breaks it up rather well...

Ahh I was kind of thinking the same thing!
Still unsure about them though.. But the Cup spoiler is definitely stayyying :)

Looks great man almost identical to my one haha.

Haha cheers mate!
A lot of the PH1's on here look alike now :p. May have to break the mould!

Love the cup spoiler, looks so much better :)

Cheeeeeers mate!! :D
Really happy with it too!
Seems to be a pretty perfect fit!

Another slight update. I have been thinking about buying one of those Prima Racing rear exhaust mounts. Mainly because mine vibrates throughout the entire car due to doing the socket trick on a standard mount..

Hoping it will cure a few rattles whilst its at it!

Seriously cool!

I'd be keeping the ph2 lights personally. I'd add a ph2 rear bumper too but I doubt you'll be doing that!
Whhhhy am I searching pistonheads for a ph1 lol

I am considering the PH2 rear bumper!
I have been for some time, but unsure as to what kind of response it would get haha!

Nickson.. Noooo... dont do do it! Ph1's with ph2 rears look shite and ya know it.. which is why you're undecided as to do it or not.. ;) The car was looking fantastic earlier until you went the same way as most others on here and started to turn it into a ph1.5 Ewwk

Liking the mechanical mods you've done fella.. looks like you're doing a very thorough and top job!

Just my opinion ;)

It could look good, it might not. Hmmmm!

The PH2 side strips might not stay, but the Cup spoiler most definitely is!!

On the mechanical side, thanks mate! I do try!
I have a few more things planned and hopefully they will all go to plan!

Thanks for the positive comment mate :)

Take a look at how low and squat a ph1 rear looks compared to a ph2. Not to mention the ph1 with a ph2 is a complete styling miss-match... whether it fits or not.

I was just out in mine, and happened to see another! :) I got almost as excited as if it was a v6! lmao. It was standard, or possibly a little lowered, and it look soo good! So clean and crisp.. Titanium just seems to 'glow' in sunlight.

Wish I had the spare cash to add the mechanical upgrades you're doing.. but i'm still all spent out on the vee lol.

Keep up the good work mate.. keep the bumper eh ;) Look at the gallery pics.. and the early ones of yours.. I think you'll see what I mean. :)

I know exactly what you mean!
The bumper on the PH2 hangs lower than on the PH1, making the PH1 look more "squat" as you describe it, so I see where you are coming from there.

Styling mismatch I also agree with. PH2 is much more angular than the PH1, and so they do not go together very well IMO.

You have pretty much convinced me to keep the PH1 rear bumper. Will be investing in some PH1 rear lights as well at some point!

Titanium glows in the sunlight so well! I wouldnt mind getting her detailed actually, see how well it can come up. Its just my daily, and so it would be a bit of an arse to give it to someone else for the day!

Will be keeping up the good work, and thanks for the positive comments! There are some nice updates still to come, so check back for them :).

I actually went to view a PH1 today after reading this, if that makes you feel even better :)

Just need to decide whether to get it, or spend a bit more and get a 182.

Ha!
Yes it does mate.
You know a PH1 makes sense!
If you can look past the horrid dash, then they are such good cars, loving mine at the moment ;)

Excellent... my plan is working... mwah-ha-ha... But seriously, leaving the OEM bumper makes so much more sense, I think you agree.

See if you can get someone to detail it on a Saturday ;)

I'll be keeping an eye on progress for sure! I'll be picking up some ideas and tips for sure I reckon.!

Nice one Nickson!

I definitely agree that the PH1 bumper looks better. Mines a little chipped from a pedal incident unfortunately, so might try and source a better one ;) haha.
I was looking into detailing. Seems like a lot of money, but the job, I'm sure will be top knotch! So still more thinking required for that ;)

Glad to hear that mate! As I say there are some nice upgrades still to come, so please check back to have a look :)

Cheers!! :D

Keeping the standard ones in the shed just in case though ;)

Thanks!
I am a bit of a freak for washing it every week. But it gets covered in dirt from work :(

Teeny weeny update!
Bought a Prima Racing uprated exhaust mount, so as soon as it arrives I will be fitting it to rid myself of the current bodged socket mount ;).

Apart from that the cars running fine!
Still needing the AST Top mounts so she can go for a full geo setup and sort out the extreme toe in on the front, then I'm out of ideas!
Needing inspiration!

Looks awesome mate!
Love that colour

Every time I read this thread I am reminded how much I need a cup spoiler in my life

What are you waiting for? ;)

Riiiiiiiight a few little updates for the Clio!

I was having some problems with the rear speakers..
11 years of use had finally taken its toll on the old boys, and they were starting to degrade somewhat in quality. By this, I mean they had started to "fuzz" at anything above volume 10!

Me, not being big on ICE, went for a cheap and cheerful option of Alpine E Types. Having always used Alpine stuff in my cars, I was sure they would be fine for the job.

So.. The newies!

img2011051900133.jpg

(For some reason Imageshack decided to rotate the picture... ) Nevermind.

Then out came the oldies!

img2011052000135.jpg

And they went into storage along with the plugs, in case I wanted to put them back in the car in the future :), job done.

Not much difference if any in sound, just minus the fuzzing noise, which is exactly what I was after. Cheap and cheerful solution at around £30 per pair.

Midway through installing the new speakers, I had a delivery van arrive outside.

I had completely forgotton that Prima Racing had told me I would have my new exhaust mount by Friday this week!

Here it was, 3pm on a Friday afternoon! What better idea, than to fit it!

How it arrived:

img2011052000136.jpg

Once unwrapped, the smell of fresh paint was very apparent!
Didnt mind, I quite like the smell
But a very impressive product on first impression!

img2011052000137.jpg

Then came around the job of fitting!
I thought it best to take a picture before and after to show a comparison between the two.
As can be see from the following picture, I had bodged an old socket in there to keep the exhaust from sagging!

img2011052000139.jpg

Somehow managed to cut my hand on the headshield (don't ask), grr, but 10 minutes later, it was looking like so:

img2011052000140.jpg

So far I am very impressed with it!
Exhaust sits perfectly, you can only just see the tip hanging below the bumper.
Absolutely no movement whatsoever! Any no extra vibrations through the car, bonus!

Very impressed with this mount. I feel as if I am getting too excited over a new exhaust mount, maybe I'll tone it down a little, but still, impressed nevertheless!
if you are thinking about buying one, £35 really is not a bad price!

Thats pretty much all I have for now!
Still awaiting delivery of my new AST Top mounts, which should be here anytime soon, and still needing a full geo setup, but thats all I have planned to come!

Cheers guys
